I just read the winner of the contest, el camino.
I highly disagree with that choice. While it is very well written, it didn't feel at all like a hea.
It actually left a very bitter taste in my mouth.

I agree with you, if the story/SpaG is rubbish, it won't get any better. 

I have been reading the entries on FF TwiHEAcontest and have even flounced a couple of them. 

I don't understand the reviews on them though.  One of the entries has double the number of reviews as the others, and, having read most of them I can't say it is that much better than the rest.

There are some lovely one shots there though.

As you can see, I posted this long before the results were in.  Have a guess which one had double the number of reviews.

That seems fishy - in my opinion.

Well, someone knew who wrote it and that person can rec it so that people review it.   I think these things are never as anonymous as the contest people would like.

I can imagine it is extremely difficult to monitor but, this just doesn't seem fair to all the other authors/betas who kept the secret.

The story was well written, however, I cannot honestly say it was the best of the bunch.

My favourite entry was You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login which is probably one of the best stories I've ever read, fanfiction or not. It's Jasper/Alice and I know most of you will probably be put off by that, but please give it a try as it's beautiful.

I'm trying to read it now, but it is a little depressing.  It doesn't seen very HEA to me either. 

What I do think happens is the writers tell their readers they entered a story into the contest.  You can usually tell a writer's style if you like them & that might be what happened.  And there's twitter and facebook where people rec stuff and say vote for this story.  So who knows.

And?  I think a lot of readers don't actually like HEA stories.  I mean look how many loved Dusty, yet it doesn't sound so happy to me.

Well, it always seems to me that when readers are asked for their favorite stories, they are things like Wide Awake, The Blessing and The Curse, Dusty, etc...  All very angsty. But most with and HEA of some kind. Something that makes them feel something.  It's the same when you look at the movie award shows.  I sometimes wonder how much people really like those movies and how much they think they should like it.

I also notices that only one judge thought El Camino was the best story, well one other liked it and another story.  So you maybe right that it only won because of the reviews/public vote.

And really?  I've found what I think is rarely the way the crowd thinks.  But I admit to being weird.

It really bothered me. I normally don't read one shots. Cause they always leave me waiting for more.

It's crazy the reviews it got.... I read some because, well I'm nosy! It had reviews about how beautiful the HEA was and that they could keep reading. Somebody even wrote a super long review! It's crazy, I didn't read it so I don't know how it is but based on what all you say it doesn't sound like its a HEA.

Can I say there were rumors that she and Nicky had a thing going before she and RPattz got together.  Then there were also rumors RPattz & Nicky had a thing going.
