Have you read the fic “The Darkest Hour”, by Mrs. Hyde at You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login? It was my first fanfic and I loved it. It's Edward's POV from after his transformation to some time before Twilight. Even though the vamps are fangy, sexual creatures, Mrs. Hyde keeps him canon. I highly recommend.

Is it possible to get epub or pdf from livejournal without having to do the full copy and paste?

I'm getting lazy in my old age - I C&P'ed everything before I discovered flagfic!

Since others are recommending books...  I'll throw a couple out there!  I recently read "The Lonely" by Tara Brown and also "Escorted" by Claire Kent.   Thought they were both really good!

My favorite book this year... well, second favorite book, is Sea of Tranquility by Katja Milay. Have you read that? It's a book, not fic. I just love it so much, I always throw it out there whenever people are stuck looking for something to read.
I just finished Sea of Tranquility before I started reading Fridays at Noon.   I really liked SoT, but I had read so much hype about it that I was hoping I would like it as much as I liked Hopeless by Colleen Hoover.   I didn't think it was quite that good, but it was really good (loved the very last part).    So, curious...  107yearoldvirgin -  what was your favorite book of the year if SoT was your second favorite?

I've been recc'ing this all over the place lately (as the girls here can attest to :D) You should also try Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry as that's similar to Sea of Tranquility. I love them both.
THanks for the rec on Pushing the Limits.  I've got that one up towards the top of my TBR list.   I usually alternate between real books and fics so I don't get my Edwards mixed up!

I save most of my stuff on my ipad in pdf because then I can email it.  I haven't found a way to email the epub or mobi yet.
I save my stuff as .mobi and then I can email it to myself (or a friend) by emailing it to the email address that Amazon assigned to my kindle.   That works pretty well!  I've got flagfic added on my kindle account as being able to send me attachments, but they don't always show up on my kindle when I do it that way so mostly I download to my PC then email.

And since V&V ended at a very good place, is the sequel worth reading (when it's been finished)?)
SO, did you love V&V?   I am planning on reading this one real soon.  Seems like it gets good reviews!

Ladies, help me out please.

I don't seem to get the different meal names right...

I know breakfast, of course... but how do you call those during the day, when do you have lunch/dinner/supper?

And do you have a "teatime"? Does it have a name?

We Germans (especially we Saxons) love our afternoon snack meaning coffee and cake/cookies/pie/icecream. So, do you have something similar ?

Thanks!  :-* :-* :-*

I'm really going to muddy the waters here . . .

Morning meal - Breakfast, Brekkie

Mid morning meal (not a mid-morning snack) - brunch

Mid morning snack - morning tea, little lunch (this is mostly a school phrase though it is used commonly), smoko

Midday meal - lunch, big lunch (another school phrase)

Afternoon snack - afternoon tea, smoko

Evening meal - dinner, tea

Evening snack - supper

We don't have a name for that "meal" that you get at 2:00am when you're out drinking and just need to eat - but my friends and I have a code name - "Arse-end Out" - it refers to the phrases "I could eat the arse-end out of a dead rhino" or "I could eat the arse out of a low flying duck". It basically means that we all clear out and try to find something that's still open so we can eat. It's never pretty - often there isn't much open, only Maccas (which we can't do anymore because  ;) we're grown ups!) or the petrol stations or Subway or a Kebab Van, so it's hot chips or something else deep fried and 2am delicious (because you wouldn't touch it at any other time of the day), or a kebab (my personal fave) or a hot meat pie.

Nothing says class like 5 people all eating a meat pie together!

Now, I have a question - meat pies are seen as traditional Aussie food. Nothing is better than a meat pie for lunch on a cold day. We have Pie Vans that drive to the industrial areas and to building sites and every bakery and food shop and petrol station always sells meat pies. They are possibly the biggest seller in any school canteen (we call them "tuckshops" here).

I have never heard of them in another country - Apple pie, pumpkin pie, etc yes, shepherds pie, fish pie, chicken pot pies, yes,  but never meat pies.

Do any other countries eat meat pies? And if not, why? Especially when Australia isn't one of the colder countries? I know other countries have sausage rolls (pigs in blankets?), but why not pies?

Here's what I mean by a meat pie - you can see from this pic why 5 people sharing one is so elegant!

When you use flagfic...  if you accidentally put in the URL of a chapter other than the first chapter, will you still get the whole story?  I think I accidentally put in the URL for chapter 2 of Love in my Box.

I've always gotten the full story, even when I've done that. Usually I paste in the URL of the last chapter or I paste the story ID number.

My apologies to those of you who are more tech-savvy than me - which is pretty much all of you! - but I wanted to share something I discovered this week that just might change my life!

I have never tried "talking books", but I have been looking at apps for school for some of our more reluctant readers and children who have reading difficulties (not because I don't think they should be reading, but because I want them to have success in other areas that rely on reading).

I came upon the Voice Dream Reader app : You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login and decided to have a play with it. There is a free "lite" version but I decided to spend A$5.49 and buy the full model. I put it on my phone and have been "reading" Bring On The Wonder while I am driving to and from work every day.

I have to say, I am really happy with it! I downloaded an extra voice (the app comes with one voice that it quite robotic) that is fairly realistic and quite easy to listen to. You can pay a few dollars for different voices - there are a heap of other voices that you can get - male/female, different accents - there's even an Aussie male! - and you can change the voice speed too.

There are a few minor things - every so often, in the middle of nowhere, she says "Minus 1278" and I realised that she is reading the page number. She pronounces "Esme" as "Esm" and "Alice" as "A-Leese" and sometimes the emphasis is on the wrong syllable, but overall, it's not bad! And it was very easy to use - I added the pdf of the fic into itunes, synced it to my phone and then just added it to the Dream Voice library.

And it means that I can spend another 2 hours reading fanfic every day! I might actually finish Bring On The Wonder this year now!

Thank you so much!

I don't suppose I can stretch the friendship and ask if you also have the sequels (The Thorns Remain, His Brother's Keeper, Curiouser & Curiouser) in pdf too?  8)

I loved V&V! Have reread it too. It's sequel Love Rescue Me is one of the few WIPs i am following. I am a bit disappointed it hasn't updated much. However, i still love it bec i just love this particular actorward, he's so sweet and in love
