Have a lovely break!

Is this the Memorial Day long weekend?

I have no idea what Memorial Day is or why you all have a four day weekend, but have fun and safe travels to you all!

I was about to say that I do know that you're not supposed to wear white after Memorial Day, but now that I think about it, that can't be right, because your summer is just beginning, so that holiday am I thinking of?

Our holidays are really basically named here - Australia Day, Queen's Birthday, Show Holiday - it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what we're celebrating, which is probably a good thing, because most Aussies are drunk by 9am on a holiday anyway!
Memorial Day, in which we honor those who died serving in our Armed Forces, typically marks the beginning of our summer vacation season (i.e. pools open, beaches open, etc.), while Labor Day marks its end.

Ladies, help me out please.

I don't seem to get the different meal names right...

I know breakfast, of course... but how do you call those during the day, when do you have lunch/dinner/supper?

And do you have a "teatime"? Does it have a name?

We Germans (especially we Saxons) love our afternoon snack meaning coffee and cake/cookies/pie/icecream. So, do you have something similar ?

Thanks!  :-* :-* :-*

Because I am from Northern England I have breakfast, dinner and tea.  In Southern England this is breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Eating mid-morning is brunch and mid-afternoon is afternoon-tea.  Hope this helps.

Congratulations on your posting record!   :cheer:

I can't do any of that fancy sh!t.   :(
I'm from the south of England and everyone I know calls meals the same thing Rickell does. But that might be coz we're from the country side.  :P

Epubs don't work on Kindle.  Which is why I have epubs for my tablet and mobi for the Kindle.  And PDF for most of the old stories LOL!   Calibre is really good ad keeping them sorted.  If only I didn't add stories faster than I can update the metadata. ...:D :D :D :D

What saves more space putting them on the kindle or reading ePub on the iPad

And here are the sequels to The Darkest Hour by Mrs Hyde.
The Thorns Remain, His Brother's Keeper and Curiouser & Curiouser are "in between" fics.
Can you guys tell me more about The Darkest Hour?    So, it takes place after Edward was turned and before Twilight?   What are the other sequels?    Are they all "romance" with an HEA?   :-*

Edited to add:   I found this link: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login that explains more about The Darkest Hour.  (I think someone posted it previously and I missed it!  Thanks for posting)   I was and still am completely gaga over the Twilight series so I think I'll start this after I finish Fridays At Noon.    If there is some awful non-HEA ending, can someone please warn me.      LOL During the last movie when they had that scene that was really playing out in Alice's mind...  where they killed Carlisle and almost killed Edward, I cried like a big ol' baby!   Couldn't handle it if a fic did that too me.   :o :D

Memorial Day is a day we're supposed to honor those who died fighting for our country.

Unless you live in the semi-tropics or tropics, you're not supposed to wear white until Memorial Day (in the US).  I think that rule is one that is honored in the breach.  Especially with winter white pants, white clothes worn at Easter, etc.  I distinctly remember wearing white gloves at Easter time as a child, which meant white shoes.
I think the "wearing white between Memorial Day and Labor Day" is a very old custom when one wore white only during the summer.  And really? It normally applies only to shoes.

Of course, this was before athletic shoes.  Which are almost always white. :D :D :D

It has nothing to do with the holidays though, they are used to give summer a time.

Damn! I thought I might just have the colon in the wrong spot! I really messed it up, didn't I?

My OCD is so glad you're around to clean up after me.

How can I get my very own RL Ficfangirl?

We're always more organized with our obsessions than the rest of our life, right?  I can always find excuses to let the housework go for a little longer.

I have to admit, when you started talking about colons, punctuation was not the first thing that leaped into my mind.  I was seriously wondering how we got onto the topic of colons (with the gastric meaning) from what was being discussed previously.  Then I had a  :-[ moment and realized you meant punctuation.

I read Never Sleep in a Strange Man's Bed ages ago on Twilighted and enjoyed it very much.  I wonder if it's still on Twilighted's top ten list.

No warning necessary. The author wanted to rewrite Twilight (The Blue Hour), but had trouble when she realized Edward had no background, so she started to write it.

Neither the Kindle nor the iPad allow for external storage, so you are limited by the size of your memory.  So, if you don't mind reading on your iPad, you have more memory and the ePubs are smaller.

You can put a lot of stories on your Kindle. I currently have 782 stories - mostly fanfic but a number of real books - on my Kindle now.  I've had up to around 1600, but the Kindle started acting weird.  So even though it will hold a lot of stories, it is not a good storage device.

Your iPad or any tablet, has a better operating system that can handle a lot of files.  They are not as good as a computer for storage, but better than the Kindle.  So in most ways, I would recommend using the iPad with epubs.

That said, your eyes will appreciate the e-ink of the Kindle more than the backlit iPad, especially at night. I normally change my reading programs to parchment in the background and dark brown ink, but other color combinations may work for you better.   And always back up to a computer, because you never know when one of them will crash and all your stuff will disappear.

Housework? What is housework?  Are you saying organizing my Calibre library doesn't count?

Sigh, my house really needs cleaning.  But I need my husband to help me move some furniture I bought to help with the organizing.  Okay, they are mostly bookshelves because our house has books everywhere.  That and paper are my killers. I need to spend the next month shredding stuff.

Okay, I'm tired just thinking about it.

I have everything on calibre on my MacBook. I just was sending what I wanted to read to my kindle and then deleting it after I read it. Now it's all stuck on my kindle cloud. I think I might try the ePubs just to compare. Thanks for your help  :-*

I'm right there with you.  Books and paper are my downfall.

My husband bought a blackberry playbook (notebook?) for me and then uploaded calibre onto my laptop so I could organize all the ebooks I have now.  I'm starting to play with calibre, but only baby steps.  And organizing all the ebooks?  OMG, I'll probably be 90 before that gets done to my satisfaction.

I'm mostly organizing my fanfiction.  The ebooks kind of organize themselves at this point.  And I only worry about the completed stories.  I figure, until it is complete, I will either read it on ffnet or wait.  It's just that, I have way too much stuff downloaded.  But all that pulling of stories last year scared me so much, that even if it just looks interesting?  I pull it. And sometimes anything else by that author.  Because what if I like her writing?  Sigh.  There is addictive behavior at work here.

I'm just glad it shows up in reading and not in actual drugs or alcohol. LOL! [

I'd have to buy a wine cellar or something.  :D :D :D :D

I'm the opposite with the organizing.  I feel like my fanfic is pretty organized, but not the other reading material I have on my computer.  But I do tend to go overboard with the fanfic hoarding.  Including pulling every story my an author if I'm even a little interested in one of that author's stories.  I don't usually pull the slash or non-canon, though.  At some point, I'm sure I'll regret that decision, but I force myself to stick with it.

Oh my ebooks are not organized! There's just not enough of them to bother with - and most are either romance or nonfiction.

I think the same way.  I rarely download slash.  Though I do have a few when I was just downloading without looking at the characters. So, I have some slash by LyricalKris for example, because I was just copying URLs like crazy.  What is bad is I did crazy downloading with mobi formats before discovering how great Calibre is.  So I have multiple  stuff of a lot of it.

It will never get organized.
