My best friend went to turn the light on in her bonus room above their garage. There was a mouse that got caught in between the wall and light switch and died. She ended up petting it's head as she was trying to turn the light on.

She had a reaction much like you did with the roach.

Just reading that caused me to break out in goose bumps!

I have ratsak (mouse baits) everywhere! I have never seen a mouse in my home. We do get them at school. I make the children rescue me.

Yep - gun wielding maniac, and I'd be up there in front of the kids doing everything I could to save them.

A mouse...

I once had a 5yo say to me "I'm sure it's more scared of you than you are of it".

Smartarse!!!

Oh my god! Nothing worse than rats.

 :sign0137: :sign0137:

If she had anything to be thankful for here, it would be that it was a little mouse vs a rat.

I do know she will never be 100% confident turning on a light in a dark room again.

I like to travel, but the worst thing about traveling other than airports is checking and double checking to make sure your hotel doesn't have BED BUGS!!!    UUUGGHHHH!!  I got so paranoid for a year that I packed all my clothes and toiletries in those gigantic ziplock bags and wouldn't sleep in a bed without my own sleeping bag and that's after carefully checking the mattress, sheets, pillows, basically EVERYTHING!  I'm still paranoid and check every website to see if the hotel/resort/b&b I'm going to stay at has had a bed bug report.

You are SMART!! I live close to Cincy, and Bed Bugs are a horrible issue in the city. And once you get them? Infested on the Animal Planet has taught me those little bastards are nearly impossible to get rid of.

So when I was growing up with my large family, we had pet cats and one dog for about two weeks.

Then there were the fish, budgies, hamsters (nasty things) guinea pigs, rats, ducks, lizards and snakes....  Yes, we had ducks.  OH, you were wondering about the snakes?

Yeah, Matilda was great.  Only, it turned out she wasn't a girl. Guess it's hard to tell the sex of a snake.  :D :D :D :D  But she did give good hugs & she scared away a lot of those door-to-door salespersons

There are so many anxiety-inducing animals, rodents, reptiles in that post.

I've never even touched a snake.

I got one of those lights that is supposed to kill things.  I forget to bring it most of the time.  But most of the places I go don't have bed bugs that I know of.  I do look at the sheets though.  But it is one of my fears that I will bring them home.

I had a rattlesnake in my bedroom once. I was getting ready for a date, looked up, and it was poking it's head over the foot of my bed. You never saw someone run so damn fast!

Once, I came home from school, and my living room window was busted. I thought someone had broken in, but it was a ROOSTER, that had managed to get enough height to break through the glass. Blood and feathers EVERYWHERE.

We had a lot of different kinds my brother would bring home.  None that were poisonous.  Mostly constrictors that were around 3 to 4 feet long & not very big around.  So they weren't too scary.  The worst one was a garter snake that would pee all over you if you picked him up.  Needless to say, I left him alone.

But the boa was a sweetie.

Omg. Was it dead already or just scratched up from the glass?

I pretty much fear anything that can fly. That advantage gives me reason to fear them.

We don't have moles or weasels or even hamsters. We have guinea pigs and sometimes kids bring them to school. I stay out of those classrooms if it it "pet day".

I don't think we have bed bugs here either.

The other thing that makes me lose all professionalism?

Vomit.

I don't do vomit.

If I have to do vomit, I start vomiting - right there, alongside the kid that is sick.

I actually had a kid who had thrown up (in Australia, the common folk say "spew"  ::)) take the hose from me and clean up their own mess while I had to go sit inside. I train my kids that if they are going to vomit - Get the f uck out! Just run outside onto the grass.

This is why it's good to be the principal - if a kid is sick now, I tell someone else to clean it up!  ;D

Oh no, it was alive, squawking around the living room. I had to go get my uncle to come get him out. Same one I ran to to get the rattlesnake out. Handy, having family live right next door!

As you can probably guess, I grew up in the sticks. And yes, rattlers are highly poisonous, which is why I ran so fast. Saw the head, heard the rattle, I took off. Lucky he didn't strike! He ended up kinda hung between two of my dresser drawers ( I was messy then. Hell, I'm messy now!), and my uncle cut his head off with a butcher knife.

Snakes are quite lovely - and if they're not, well a long-handled shovel deals with that pretty quickly. Snakes keep the mice away!

I had snake cooked 10 ways in Vietnam last year. One way was more than enough  :sign0137:

Went to a snake farm and they threw a cobra out in front of me - those are scary mofos. They have this rattly, phlegmy sounding hiss that is just terrifying!
