It's very quiet here today! Over the past couple of days I've been reading historical fics, so if anyone has any recs for those I'd be grateful.

I have to leave in 10 minutes for my first day back at work after 5 1/2 weeks of holidays.

I don't wanna go to school today!

At least it's finally raining here (first time since July! Thank you, ex-Cyclone Oswald) so I won't spend the day staring out the window wishing I was at the beach, but 3:00pm can't come fast enough. 8 hours...7 hours and 59 minutes...

My 10 year old is having one of those mornings where I want to smack the taste out of her mouth.

Instead I'm venting here.

Children are horrible but you insisted on breeding...send her to school in her pyjamas and let the teachers deal with her.
If I see one more add about parents celebrating back-to-school, I might punch my TV!

Nothing atm I'm trying to finish the BAtB ending so... this is a good thing and a bad thing. I have alerts and such in my inbox but I'm studiously ignoring them. I only have about 3/4 chapter left

You can thank Astro She's been on me to get it done and was peeved that DN bailed on the fic too. This I get the ending how I see it. I do warn you, there is closure but it's gonna end Masen style

Something that drives me absolutely insane? When authors put conversations between themselves and a co-author/characters in their A/N's. And I'm not talking about a line or two. No, the ones that make me  are the ones that are a page+ long.

I mean...WHY. Does anyone even read them? Usually Edward *grumbles* and *stomps off*. Just stupid.

Or, he has completely out of character, hot smex with the author!  Long a/n's are a pet peeve of mine but the conversation ones are the worst!

Seriously, y'all, how long have we all been lusting after Rob. Most/some of us are old enough to be his much older BFF (smirk) and still we cannot seem to help ourselves. I have come to the conclusion that this boy owns us. I know just seeing his pic automatically puts a smile on my face. Having said all that here is my question for all. If you got him for 30 mins, no holds barred, what would you do. He is totally into you as you are him. What would you do?
I have thought about this, because my hubbie actually asked me that question (he is a little sick of my obsession) and I swear I really believe I would hyperventilate and just pass out. Either that or tie his ass up in the basement and never allow him to leave.
So yeah, I'm off work today with not a damn thing to do.

Now, this is coming from someone who has been "in drought" for a very long time (and is definitely old enough to be his BFF - maybe even his mother's BFF!) so this will either be inspirational, or explain the drought situation...

If I had 30 minutes - I'd buy him a beer and just chat about life in general.

Of course, he'd see me for the intelligent, funny, beautiful woman that I am and realise that age is just a number and that would lead to a lot more than 30 minutes, which would lead to all sorts of things...like naked dot-to-dot involving moles, freckles fingers and tongues.

I've been doing the same, Ella. Though mine is a mix of more reading and messing around with Calibre. Right now I'm converting all of the fics I had in .doc format to ebup...taking forever :/

How can you convert doc files? Is doc to epub possible? Because doc to mobi is not (at least for my calibre... do I need a plugin?) I could convert to epub and then to mobi... right?

Oh, yup, and the non canon!

To convert is a total PITA but I hate hate hate doc files so I do it lol.

First, I open the .doc file in Word. Then, save as a 'web page'. Add that saved html doc to your calibre (will enter in as a zip file). Then convert from zip to epub or mobi. That's it! I just did 74 fics this afternoon

Oh, I hoped you knew an easier way... I've to download them to another computer first because my netbook freezes as soon as I only mention Word...  So, this clearly will have to wait till I have much free time... Scheiße (is s h i t in German, I just wanted to see if this board is bilingual  )

Do you have a gmail account?  For the pesky .doc files that are a pain to convert, I'll email the file to myself (gmail) and then view in google docs.  Once it's open, I'll save it as a pdf file.  If I want to convert it to another format, then I just use Calibre to convert the pdf.

I have wasted hours of my life hoping that a fic would get better to no avail. 
I appreciate the effort it takes to write a fic, but, it only takes a little more to get a beta and check the bleeding thing and tell you whether it is good or not. 
I know this sounds harsh from a non writer, however, at least I can accept the fact that I can't write!
I refuse to subject my brain to further drivel.
