Well, I don't read WIPs so I don't need notifications to see when they update. The only thing that I care about is being able to grab them and get them downloaded as soon as they are completed. But, just in case it might help, I'll copy/paste what I put on the 152 thread for how I keep track of what fics I want to read when they do complete

I add any WIP that I want follow to my Ffn favorites (vs. following it because I actually don't want an email every time a chapter is added). Then I go to my "author" page several times a day to see if any completed (I'm not an author, but my favorites still show up). Super easy to see if anything has completed just from a quick look at your page.

I also have my page bookmarked to my toolbar.

Besides relying on ffn to send the emails for updates, I'm not sure how else to be able to check short of just looking every few days. You are def'y 'following' them vs. 'favoriting', right? I'm sure you are, but just suggesting it as I had them mixed up at first when they switched ffn over to the new layout.

That was helpful ;) So you suggest I favorite stories instead of follwing them, right? It is a good idea and it seems easy to check for updates. My main problem is that I follow around 100 authors, that have many different stories going. Maybe it is time for me to start adding stories, instead of authors...

Just finished reading The Fantasy Basket. I don't remember who rec'd it but I have to say I didn't like it. If I was a flouncer I would have flounced, unfortunately my personality does not allow me this privilege. I'm tossing between Fatherhood, Formula and other F words or The Inside Man to start reading next. They've both been recently completed and they both look ok. Did anyone here read them as WIP's?

Why didnt you like it? Im afraid to start it. Does it have cheating on it? you can spoil it away for me please.

No, if you want the emails when an author updates a WIP or starts a new fic, then I would def'y follow them vs. favoriting.

But. You could actually do both, follow so that you get the alerts and add to favorites so that you can check your author page to see what updates and when.

I try to follow both if the story is interesting as well as the writting. But when an author add's a few chapters a day I get as many emails as chapter where uploaded  :(

So my inbox is full most of the time. But there are days when is quiet and only receive four or less notifications, of course I have accounts on TWCS and Twilighted so I guess that's why I receive notifications
Don't forget after downloading please press the Thank You button. It doesn't take too much of your time.

Since everyone in here is so helpful, I have a tiny question: What is the best way to keep track of all the WIPs and authors you are following? I know some of you have talked about it before, but I never paid much attention. You see, I was pretty confident that FF.net would send me a notification every time something that I follow has been updated, but lately it seems that I miss more and more notifications. What do you do when that happens (besides visiting all the stories and author profiles every few days :P)

I follow stories and authors as well, but with WIPs I really like and don't want to miss I download them to Calibre. Once a week I select all incomplete stories and run an update for them, So new chapters are added and I have the story in my library... (I am greedy...)

I'm trying to re-read You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login by FluffyLiz, but I'm thinking of flouncing it again as for the same reason as last time - Bella annoys the hell out of me.  >:( :D
I know she's wrote Bella as British (and so is the author) but seriously I don't know a single person that talks like her at her age who is upper class (I'm from the UK, in case you're wondering).

i didnt flounce, but sticking to it didnt make me like this fic.
This bella is spoiled. I hated the way she talked to her friends and by the end there is drama for the sake of drama.

I think I made it to chapter 15 last time and just gave up.
Atm, I'm on chapter 6 - I'm determined to see it through but it's hard work.  :D
I know what you mean about Bella and how she talks to her friends - if I were her friend I would of probably punched her within the first few chapters.  :D
But that might be coz I'm a bit common.  :) ;)

I flounced this one a while ago. I like the storyline in general, but the way Bella talks gets more annoying chapter after chapter. I think the author uses to much slang...

I'm thinking that she uses slang which she thinks teenagers use.

Really? I check FFnet completed stories every few days and download anything interesting that has completed into Calibre.

Otherwise, if I'm following something? I've started downloading them into Calibre.  Because it marks them as complete or not, I can track what is not complete.  Maybe once a month or once every couple of weeks, I will highlight the incomplete items and tell calibre to check for updates.  Because I set it to only update if there are new chapters, it doesn't take too long. Also, I sometimes get messages - not often - that there are less chapters on FFnet than on Calibre.  This is how I find out that some things have been removed. :(

Not everything I download goes on my TBR list.  But I usually download stuff written by authors I like or am following. Or something rec'd here.  I don't download too many WIPs if I can help it. LOL!

If I am reading a WIP, I watch for the FFnet notifications on it. ;)

The story is 85 pages and not so good.  I would have flounced but because it was so short I just wanted to finish it.

That wasn't the focus in this fic - it was a quick, easy read but not very enthralling.
