I can actually think of an example of what you are talking about, a fanfic that used characters, plot, and themes present in another.

Did I think of the second as plagiarism? Yes, and so did the author, who, if you look at the reviews for the second, did not seem flattered. And this is the example I thought of when I wrote that. If it's a similar plotline, big deal. When you start using the themes and the exact same words, then I think a case can be made. Fifty Shades, I think, is different, because while it was started as a fanfic, it was published as an original work or fiction. In that case, I would say it's fair grounds for fanfics to be written about it. A fanfic of a fanfic, though... I don't know.

That said, if it's a fic and author who have been gone for years, does any of this even apply? Probably not, and unless it was a hugely popular story, not many people would probably even make the connection between the two.

Greetings all,

I am trying to remember a fic!  Bella is a real estate agent.  Edward I think is a building inspector.  Bella is checking out a property and there is an earthquake.  Edward happens to check out the building, finds Bella but they can't get out.  Another quake hits and they think this is it.  Adding to the rock and rolling are E/B.  They get rescued. They never exchange numbers.  She becomes pregnant and they meet in an ob office.  Edward is with Rosalie because Emmett is out of town?  Anyway, rocky road ahead but then there is an HEA.  Anyone know the name or author?

Wow, I swear I read this as a B/E.  Neither the author nor the charactor names ring a bell.  However, the title sounds right.  I mean really, I don't think Twilight was around then.  I really don't know.  How would I remember Edward being with Rosalie at the ob's because Emmett was out of town.  That would be too strange to remember even for me. 

Now I feel really feel bad with my remark.  It had to have been rewritten!

This is incorrect - flagfic has set the metadata description / summary since May 2011. If you have noticed a missing summary when selecting the book in Calibre, please let me know the URL of the story (ideally via the contact page on the flagfic site) so I can investigate and fix the issue.
