Thanks to tjputvin

I remember this fic. I tried to read it several times but I have a hard time reading fics written in this tense. I'm gonna give it a go again. I've read a few like this so maybe this time around it will stick :)
~No, no. I'm laughing at you not with you~

And don't forget to press "Thank You" after downloading. Someone took the effort to find it, you should thank them.

random fanfic peeve of the day:

The past tense of the word lie. As in "we lie down on the bed".  It is not LIED. It's lay, or laid.
"That night, while we lied in bed together..." is hilarious. All I keep thinking is "yes, it's the biggest one I've ever seen" or "yeah, baby, you are way more handsome than that silly sparkly vampire" :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I don't think the author's use of the word correctly portrayed the heartfelt moment she was trying for.  Just saying.....
"God, if he wasn’t so handsome, strong,
sometimes sweet, didn’t have a Harley, that beard, a tendency to play with my hair, didn’t look so good in jeans and wasn’t so danged good in bed, he would seriously not be worth it."

Gads, if I had a nickel for every time I've seen the wrong form of a word used in fanfiction, I would be a very rich woman!   I hear you and I feel your pain!   Spell check doesn't catch that stuff and even the best beta'd stories have mistakes sometimes...

My point is -  Imitation is the greatest form of flattery.   What is the difference between a fanfic based on an original novel, or a fanfic written based on another fanfic?   As long as it's not plagiarized it's fair game unless the author objects.   I think this is the wrong forum for this discussion - we're here to share stories and I'm really sorry I stepped into this and offended anyone.    If you want to talk more about this come on over to ADF where we have ample room for discussion.    ;)
I have to say some of my favorite OS's have been part of the "Die, Carlilse, die!" Contests that were fanfics based on killing off Offsides' Carlisle.  Those would be fanfics of a fanfic.  Though I could see an author getting upset if someone just rewrote the whole story, but an offshoot story, yeah, that would be fine. ;)

Hmmm.....I lied about lying down because I got laid while laying there?  Actually, that may be incorrect, as I believe I lay down...but I am lying down .....aaaaauuuugggggghhhh!!!!!!  Yeah, I usually give them a break on this one LOL!

Although lately? Break is annoying me. You you take a break from a relationship, but you put the brakes on when things are going too fast.  Sigh.  Homonyms are the worst. :P  ;D

And weary for wary. The last FIVE fics I read misused this one.

Another thing that somewhat annoys me? If you're going to set the story in Washington, don't use non-American terms. We weigh things in pounds, not stones.  And don't say Eh before everything. Set it in your country if you want to use unfamiliar slang.  I know it's picky, but it annoys me.   >:(

That one bugs me too, lol. Going to Uni (or University) instead of College, in hospital instead of in the hospital.

This i see a lot:

1 phased instead of fazed: "nothing fazed her"
2 passed instead of past: "we were past that point in our relationship" or if you really insist then "we passed that point in our relationship"

Sigh...

Agree, lying, lie, laid, lay etc are so commonly misused as well

Isn't "Eh" a canadian expression, yet i just read californian edward and texan jasper say this... Now how does Eh sound with a southern twang? Hmmmm...

sorry, am not too familiar with TWCS. Have a hard time downloading from that as well. This is why I just stick to FF or the posts/links here and use Flagfic to convert.

finally logged on to my jurassic PC and found out how to change my avatar... for me, this is Rob at his "handsomest", he looked all natural and relaxed... seemed approachable... this is what got me to be "addicted" to him again... only to feel his heartbreak a few days later... :(

I never voluntarily download PDFs, unless I have to.  I hate them. It boggles my mind why anyone would choose those over an epub or mobi format, when there are so many better options to read those formats and I haven't seen an ereader that will show them easily or a converter that can convert a PDF to format a reader can use without screwing it up (but that's a whole other rant, lol.)
We agree completely. I've never understood why people like PDF, but for some bizarre reason it's still the most popular format FLAG supports (46.6% of all downloads are PDF).

Quote
All that aside, I went back through my files trying to find one I used flagfic to download. It's been a couple months since I used it. Since flagfic downloaded stories have a cover, that made it easy enough I thought.  Anyway, what I discovered is that some of them had descriptions and some did not. The ones that do not are in fact PDFs.  The ones that are PDFs were downloaded from here and and other places and are all pulled fics that I couldn't go to the site and get myself, so there was no other option except PDF.  When I download stuff without using the Calibre program, it goes into my download file, then I import it into Calibre from there. I usually do many files at once, and since they all have the same cover regardless of where they came from, I confused stories that I personally downloaded from flagfic, and pdfs that came from flagfic to someone else then to me. Does that make sense?
I think so ;).

Quote
Apparently Calibre can read the metadata from fics pulled directly from the website, not but not second hand fics.
It will read secondhand ones as well, provided that the secondhand file still actually contains the metadata - if it's a PDF file, or if someone has created it based on a PDF file, then that data won't be there.

Quote
Either way, I was wrong. I retract my statement.
Thank you for taking time to check out the (non)problem and for setting me straight. I don't like the fact that I gave out incorrect information about your site, because it really is a great tool. You're awesome! :-*
No worries - I'm glad to hear it wasn't a more serious problem :).

The URL is the bit in your browser's address bar when viewing the story - for example, You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login (they may look a bit different, depending on which story or chapter you're viewing). You might also know this as a link. Just enter that (the whole thing, not just the ID number) into the "Source URL / ID" box on the FLAG website, choose your format, and click the download button.

If you'd like to have the story emailed to you, you can also enter your email address - however this is optional. If you choose not to enter an address, the file will download directly to your computer.

You can find step-by-step instructions You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, or if you have any more questions please feel free to ask me, and I'll do what I can to help :).

I've found for flagfic to work on TWCS or Twilighted, you have to be logged in when you copy the URL.  Also, TWCS allows you to print a story in pdf just from the site.  :)

The option is next to the title when you open the story to the table of contents.  ;)

TWCS doesn't provide native PDF output - what you have described is their print display option, which displays the entire story on a single page intended to be printed. You won't actually get a PDF file that way unless you're using a PDF printer application on your computer (this is a small program that pretends to be a printer, but provides PDF files as output instead of sheets of paper).

Ah!  Thank you!  I actually prefer epubs or mobi so I've only tried the option once. I normally use flagfic or ff downloader depending on how many fics I'm planning on downloading ;)

And I've discovered I can download with flag directly on my nook tablet. It is so great!  :)

Hey guys... I had a difficulty to transform fics in thewriterscoffeeshop into pdf by FLAG...
How does it work? Where can I find the URL or ID?
THX!

You can download two ways on TWCS - one being directly through their website.   Just click on the story title and then click the little printer icon button next to the coffee cups and you can download the stories directly from the website.   If you want to use FLAG, you just have to copy the entire URL from the top of the page and add that into the FLAG system.    I have never had one problem downloading either way.  If you are experiencing issues it could also be your browser.  I know some browsers (I use Firefox 12 v. 1.8 on my Macbook Pro) and have no problem creating PDF's from TWCS directly, or with downloading through FLAG.   If there is something you want let me know and I can send it to you if you're still having issues.... ;)

OOPS, just read what Steve told Ella - I am so spoiled because Macs come with built in PDF software through Preview, so when I want to create a PDF on TWCS (or Twilighted, TwiWrite, etc.) I just use my printer function and specify "save as PDF" instead of "print".    I didn't realize that some PC users don't have that built in so using the TWCS download (or automatic download on other sites) doesn't work.   I'm sorry if I confused anyone.    But you should still be able to use FLAG to create PDF's or other types of files.
