I just want everyone to know I really was not thinking of writing a fanfic based on old ones I have read and I can't find them. I was just having fun thinking I must have a creative mind after all if no one remembers them and I must have been dreaming in chapters of stories. Since I was laughing at myself, I brought up the remark of plagiarism. Once again, my mind is thinking that I might be making people upset and I would NEVER want to do that. Sorry, I brought it up.

But, I do appreciate all who have tried to find the fics. Thank you so much!

I didn't think you were. I was talking about this from a hypothetical stand point. I'm sorry if it seemed that I was attacking you or this idea. I thought it was an interesting question, that's all.

I search for the story "Bound by Promisses" from IzPerplexing. It is a Jasper/Bella story and wasn't finished.

Perhaps I missed part of the initial conversation so I'm not really sure what your point was I guess? I would never condone plagiarism of any kind and I haven't read either of those two stories you listed as example. The fact that the original author of the story that was fic'ed was mad is because she wasn't even consulted is totally understandable and I would think that was poor judgement on the second author's part. My point was that this whole twific fandom is based on derivative stories that all come from an original work written by Stephenie Meyer. She ALLOWS it to happen, unlike other authors who won't allow fanfics of their stories. I guess if an author hasn't been consulted and someone steals their work without their permission it would be plagiarism, regardless if it was an original published story or a fanfiction.

I was confused about your original point as well.

Basically, I was answering 2amlovesick's hypothetical question of, if someone tried to rewrite a fic that had been taken down years ago, would that be plagiarism? I think that using a plot idea would be okay, but attempting to rewrite it word for word is where you start entering plagiarism.

I was attempting to expand upon my original opinion by providing an example of those two fics where one was clearly inspired by the other, but because of how the second was written I think that's plagiarism. Using a plot of different members of high school cliques being forced together to make them get along is nothing really original, as it shows up in a lot of high school movies. The second fic, however, was using the same themes and ideas of the first, and it is where I draw the line from inspired by something to plagiarism.

A fanfic is a derivative work of a original story, as you have said. In this context it would make sense that a fanfic author would be using the same kinds of themes and plot devices of the original its based on. There is a line here as well, and I hope I've illustrated where I think it is with the two fics I provided.

A fanfic of a fanfic, which you mention above, is a derivative of a derivative. So, I don't think the same rules really apply. Fifty Shades may have started as a fanfic, but it was published as an original work. When that happens I think it's fair game for fics to be written based on it, unless the author disallows them. So no, I don't think it is the same of a fanfic based on a fanfic.

I would address the idea of a fanfic based on a fanfic, but I'm still a little confused as to where you were going with that. How is it flattering to have the idea for a fic someone wrote to be taken and then have a derivative written of it by someone else?

It was longer than a one-shot but only 4/5 chapters. If I remember correctly. The first part of the story was told from the perspective of the female involved with Edward. They lived together and she described how he had a minor car wreck involving a girl, how he started to become distant and how he developed a friendship with this girl. I know she came home one time and e and girl were sitting close on the couch and then when narrator & E broke up she passed girl on stairway... The whole time reading I assumed it was Bella and come to find out it was Tanya. Bella was girl in car wreck... The next part was EPOV I believe (I don't think Bella since I kinda remember him describing some of the same things Tanya had just his viewpoint...) basically he retold whole story and then a bit beyond Tanya leaving...

Is there any way to get the information on CarrieCee and In Places No One Will Find without involving Twitter. I love the story and have the first 41 chapters but know their is more ( Iread them but didn't download).

I don't have a Twitter account and don't want one to be honest.

None of the fics I've downloaded using flagfic show the summary in the book details window on calibre for me. I've only been downloading fics for a short while. I didn't even know they existed til about 6 months ago, lol. I'll have to go back and see what the last ones I downloaded using flagfic were, and I'll let you know. I haven't tried updating the metadata once it's in Calibre with those fics. Maybe that will fix the issue.

Noting you're not seeing a description on *any* of your files, it does make me wonder if you're downloading your stories as PDF, rather than using a proper ebook format such as EPUB or MobiPocket. The PDF format does not support embedded metadata descriptions at all as far as I'm aware, and there's certainly no code in Calibre which would allow it to extract such data (see /calibre/ebooks/metadata/pdf.py). My point is - Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. What is the difference between a fanfic based on an original novel, or a fanfic written based on another fanfic? As long as it's not plagiarized it's fair game unless the author objects. I think this is the wrong forum for this discussion - we're here to share stories and I'm really sorry I stepped into this and offended anyone. If you want to talk more about this come on over to ADF where we have ample room for discussion.

Is there any way to get the information on CarrieCee and In Places No One Will Find without involving Twitter. I love the story and have the first 41 chapters but know their is more ( Iread them but didn't download).

Story itself Hit me badly in last 2-3 chp, [U know where] which created huge reader debate over entire concept & turning point. & it resulted she removed her story..She said only last 2-3 chapters are left.I for once wants to read for my sanity that how it end. and move on..coz i hv invested weeks into waiting for this story.It will be torture not to get closure.

I never voluntarily download PDFs, unless I have to. I hate them. It boggles my mind why anyone would choose those over an epub or mobi format, when there are so many better options to read those formats and I haven't seen an ereader that will show them easily or a converter that can convert a PDF to format a reader can use without screwing it up (but that's a whole other rant,lol.)

All that aside, I went back through my files trying to find one I used flagfic to download. It's been a couple months since I used it. Since flagfic downloaded stories have a cover, that made it easy enough I thought. Anyway, what I discovered is that some of them had descriptions and some did not. The ones that do not are in fact PDFs. The ones that are PDFs were downloaded from here and and other places and are all pulled fics that I couldn't go to the site and get myself, so there was no other option except PDF. When I download stuff without using the Calibre program, it goes into my download file, then I import it into Calibre from there. I usually do many files at once, and since they all have the same cover regardless of where they came from, I confused stories that I personally downloaded from flagfic, and pdfs that came from flagfic to someone else then to me. Does that make sense?

Apparently Calibre can read the metadata from fics pulled directly from the website, not but not second hand fics.

Either way, I was wrong. I retract my statement.
