I just started reading Scout's Honor by samekraemer. I really want to like it but I just can't get into it. Has anyone else read this? Should I keep with it or flounce?

I read it last year and it was booooooooooooring. If you can just flounce it and move to another story. It took them 23 or 24 chapters to be together and there is only 26 chapters. There was some stupid drama and the end killed me. It's hea for ExB.

I read this one last month and I had a hard time getting through it. I rated it a 1 on my scale of 1-5 stars. I remember the ending was sweet. It takes a lot for me to flounce a fic....and this one was close.

Okay, so this isn't quite flounce worthy...yet. But, I'm not a slash reader. I don't go looking for it. I'll admit I have read some poly stories where it includes two men and a female and sometimes there is a LITTLE m/m slash in them. But, like I said, I don't go looking for it.

What has me bothered today is when I am reading a m/f romance fic only to get thrown a m/m slash lemon. I'm reading a WIP and this is NOT labeled as slash. Had I known it was going to follow a m/m slash couple along with the m/f couple and show lemons from both... I probably would not have chose to read it. I haven't read this new chapter so far b/c I've seen on FB people talking about the slash lemon. I'm at that jump off or get in stage. Do I jump off and flounce the fic b/c it isn't what I was looking for? Or do I jump in and continue reading it b/c I liked the m/f couple plot idea? Sadly, I don't think I can just skip the chapters that have to do with the m/m couple b/c it sounds like it has a lot to do with the m/f couple.

Does this even make sense? Sorry if it doesn't. I just needed to vent for a moment about labeling of stories again. I really wish that authors would let us know if they plan on writing slash lemons for a story that doesn't appear to be slash when looking at the summary or hell the first 9 chapters.

Now I want to know what is the title of the story you're tlking about

I read one story last month and it was rated ExB and then in the middle of the story was lemon with Bella and Alice and Edward and Jasper were looking at them when they fucked each other. I flounced it and even deleted it from my Kindle

And sadly it was good story and it has 2500+ reviews but I couldn't read it after Alice and Bella sex scene.

Shoot. I'm curious now about who the slash couple is.

Anyhow, if there's going to be more of this couple, and it's not your cup of tea, or you don't like that particular pairing, I'd say flounce it. It will detract from the rest of the story for you. You won't enjoy it. That's the point of reading, right?

This one. Labeled wrong. There is Izabel and Jarpr. Kind of an historical and fantasy sort of story. It was labeled Jasper, Bella, and since I'm pretty darn particular, I decided to read it. I didn't start reading it until she had posted several chapters. I was really getting into it.

Even in an author's note she said she listed it first as Edward, Bella (not Edward/Bella), someone mentioned it to her, and she changed it to Jasper, Bella.

I got quite a way through it, to chapter 31, picturing Jarpr as Jasper, right? Reviewing every chapter, as I am want to do, then she up and says Jarpr is Edward.

WTF?

Seems I wasn't the only one upset about that. I didn't say anything mean to her, I just left. She did get a few unpleasant reviews.

I went to look for it since I took it off my update lists. Now she has it listed as Bella, Jasper, Edward.

Extremely friggin' annoying.

Granted, fanfic is free. I make my payments to the writer by reviewing the work. I also spend time reading and frequently thinking about what has been written.

I felt cheated because I was expecting Jasper and in the author note for chapter 31 she said it was Edward.

It makes sense to me. I'll put aside a story if it's supposed to be M/M/slash, and the author throws a DV into it. (drippy vagina)

Not that I don't read M/F stories, I do, but if it's slash, then it should be slash. One of the more popular M/M pubbed books of the past few months, I started to read it, and put it aside because the dude is banging a chick he just met in an airplane bathroom in the FIRST chapter! I don't want to read that shit when I'm reading an M/M story! He can do her, fine, just don't put the details in, I don't want to see it in THAT kind of story. Have him chat her up, say they go to the back of the plane, then pick up next chapter, deed done. You've shown the guy's sluttiness, and spared me a sex scene that means NOTHING to the main pairing of the story.

Glad I'm not the only one and you're right it is that story. I just didn't want to name it in case all her reader/reviewers took my complaint as too harsh. But, it seems like on both sides of the coin, those of us who want to read m/f fics don't want to read a slash thrown into a story just as those who want to read a m/m story don't want a DV (haha I love that Matron, btw) scene either. So it seems we'd all like a warning of sorts either way.

deranged_dreamer, have you read chapter 9? Is it something I can skip that won't make me miss something important in the story? Or is it just a gratuitous slash lemon chapter that I can skip and be ok?

Probably all you need to know going forward is that Carlisle and Anthony enjoyed each other's company. The chapter is really all about that enjoyment. Oh, two more things, Anthony and Edward look a lot alike and if you can't see the difference in their haircuts, one could be mistaken for the other. And Anthony is not normally a cuddler, except with Bella.

I have to give props where it's due, because it takes a lot to come up with a story and write it all out to share with others. There's been a few that I've flounced simply because the first couple chapters didn't grab me and the writing seemed a little weak. But there have only been a couple that pulled me in and I flounced somewhere in the middle because everything just became so redundant.

Just Wait by InstantKarmaGirl - Problematic Bella fic featuring a shy, stuttering Edward. Takes place in high school. 800+ pages

You know going into it that Bella has a lot of demons from her past and she takes comfort in any mild altering substance she can get her hands on. Multiple POV. I stopped reading around 250 pages because each time Bella was narrating it was like reading the same chapter over and over. I skipped towards the end and she was finally in rehab and attempting to get help, but as published book this story has been split into four separate books. If I had to wait until the fourth book for this character to seek help I probably wouldn't have ventured past the first. There's only so much wreckage I can handle.

The Gentleman from Washington State by Betty Smith There wasn't really anything wrong with this other than it being so damn long. With such a long story, the plot moves at a snails pace. Senator Olderward with a younger intern Bella. Had to keep the relationship very hush hush for 3/4 of the story.

I love supernatural fics but she totally exaggerated with all the things that happened to Bella

and it's terribly inconsistent, not to mention some things are totally unbelievable and don't make absolutely any sense ...

I regret the hours I spent on it ...

Since a lot of us have run into fics with interesting summaries but eventually it turns out bad or something we can't read, some are even completely vague and don't say a thing about we'll run into I thought maybe we could share opinions, what we like, what we hate about certain stories so that we don't have to waste anymore time and get to the good stuff

That's okay, but for fics we hate, we have the flounced fic thread and for fics we love we have the recommendations and discussion thread. You can talk in as much depth as you like in either of those threads and I'm sure you'll be able to entice the others on those threads to engage with you. All you have to do is start a discussion in the appropriate thread. I think you'll have more success if you pick a fic to start with in either instance, rather than just throwing out a general invitation, though.

I'm going to merge this with the flounced fic thread once I think you've had a chance to read. Just click the thank you button and I'll know you've seen it.

Ficfangirl is right, while I named it flounced fics, it's really just for anything that's flounceable, whether you stick it out or not. If it's bad, it goes here! We just want to know what to avoid, and why.

Come join us on the discussion thread. I know our discussion can be a little intimidating - especially when Loopy starts sharing (love ya Loopy!) And sometimes we talk about *gasp* real books, but if you start a discussion about a story, eventually you will get a response. Somedays, it is a little slow, other days, there will be 10 pages....
