I just started reading Unbirthdays by Jol27 and am ready to flounce. The story sounded good but the grammer. . . .WTF?

"I was the only one to get away with calling him teddy it was short for teddy bear , Emmett was built like a bear, but as soft as a teddy on the inside the only thing bigger then Emmett's arm' s was his heart."

And more:

"As we walked Charlie would tell me everything that had happened since I last seen him. A month was a very long time to a 6 year old for example his best friend in school had a girlfriend that Charlie didn't like but it was all ok now because his friend didn't like her anymore and only wanted to play star wars with him at play time s now because girl s are horrid."

Ugh!   I'm only on page seven!  Is there a  reason I should continue with this?

Thanks.

Copy and paste that sucker into Word. If I really like a story I do a spell and grammar check :)

This is what I do, or else I would literally go insane reading some of these fics. But it is hard without a beta, there are certain things you just won't pick up on when going over your own work. Although some of them I really do wonder about...

Hah! I read the first chapter of that one the day it was mentioned on here, and that was enough to tell me the writing would drive me insane.

I really hate when something has such good story potential, only to be ruined because the writer has no concept of basic grammar/spelling.

No wonder she always has such a sour-puss look on her face. Going around licking armpits will do that to ya!  :sign0137:

Somehow I missed an update this morning and just realized it.  But only 2 pages on this site.  ;)

Ok so all in one comments. Not sure I can read slash yet where Edward is one of the partners....maybe Carlisle/Jasper? Or even better? Emmett/Jacob!  My other question is are they graphic? Maybe I can deal with fade to black....

I'm hoping RPattz will do a better job than Brad Pitt.

I like the idea of putting it in word to correct the spelling & grammar, but can you do a mass correction?  I think I'd rather ignore the errors. If I can LOL! ;D :D

I've not read any Emmett/Jacob but once I hand this essay in I just may go scope that out! A lot of the time though the fics with Jake and any of the Vampire boys revolve around him imprinting and there's something about it that doesn't work for me...

As for graphic, yes, most of them are pretty graphic, or at least they aren't 'fade-to-black', so if you're a tad on the squeamish side when it comes to a bit of man on man lovin' then I don't know if they're for you...

You can do mass corrections in Word, use the 'find and replace' tool. I mostly go through and correct as I read, it's rather cathartic and helps get me through them; I am more likely to give a story the flick if I'm doing this though. If it's good enough, once I'm done I'll put it back on the list and read it again later without all the grammar-rage inducing errors.
