Ok people, something is up! The Ex-Factor has to be the longest dumbass story ever written! I have been reading it solidly for 3 days, how can it still not be over! What with all the mistakes and these rather finky-funky OOC dynamics (which by the way I'm not find that appealing) and this
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
I am this close to flouncing, I don't think I can take it anymore...Honestly someone who's read it please give me a good reason to stay, because right now? I'm about to shut it the hell down.

NB I'm beginning to sound like a character in this story......Did I really just right DUMBASS?!

It's so not fair! By the time I get online in the UK all the fun has stopped!

Anyway in one catch-up post

The good news, I have finished The Ex-Factor! YEAH!!! Thanks sweet baby Jesus! Would I recommend it? No. And let me quantify this. It is 1000 pages too long, 2415 pages. The author doesn't have the writing chomps to carry that kind of lengthy tale, her narrative and dialogue aren't strong enough. There was a weird mixture of writing styles, sometime it read as if a 12 year old has written it and at other as if an 50 year old had. The spelling and grammatical error drove me totally crazy, as my previous posts will testify. Towards the end of the story I think the author might have found God because he started featuring quite a bit, when he'd never been mentioned before.  The story had great potential and the premise is fantastic but unfortunately I don't think this author is a good enough writer to bring it to fruition.
!
It's nice to see someone else who feels the same way about The Ex Factor!  This is only the second fanfic I've read and I have to keep hoping that there are better ones out there and that I didn't just get lucky with my first one being so good (Out of Sight, Out of Mind You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login).

I have finally gotten used to the typos and just tend to over look those, but some stuff is just really hard to ignore.   Her descriptions of anything relating to the medical field are really bad!  Examples:

RE Running by Merina Green- when does the romance between Bella and Jasper finally start to kick in?
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Well, it's been a while since I read it, but from what I remember:

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
You held out your hand, and I took it without stopping to make sense of what I was doing. For the first time in almost a century, I felt hope.

I thought that also regarding The Path We Choose, as far as I know it's not HS it's Edward with kids....Robsten, are you sure that's the name of the fic your thinking of? :-*
I think she is talking about The Path We Chose by BelieveItOrNot.  I'm on my tablet or I'd link it

I haven't read it though.   ;)

I've decided I think I'm probably going to like fics that have the characters written most similarly to the books...   For example: Edward = vampire and all the couples are the same as the books etc.    Is this what you would call canon fanfic?  Or is there some other kind that I should be looking for when searching?

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to have them!

No, no! You didn't just get lucky with your first story out the fic gate, there are some fantastic fics out there! The HS ones that have been rec'd on just this page are examples of the great stuff out there, download and read any of them. Knock Love Out and Mark of Beauty that was rec'd yesterday (You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login) I read in one sitting over the last 24 hours and they were really worth the sleepless night. Ex-Factor is what it is, but it isn't by any means the best Twificdom has to offer. Personally from where you are in the story? I think the best of it has passed but that is just my opinion, there are other member who have loved it.

Yes, that woud be canon.  The term 'canon' applies to both couples and story but people tend to use it more to refer to couples.

Maybe try reading something like:

Only Human by Amethyst Jackson You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Complete. A wish sends Bella back in time to Chicago, 1918, and to a human Edward. This story is baby-free.

The List by LauraACullen You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Four weeks before her wedding to Edward, Bella is frustrated. She knows there's little-to-no chance of getting him to bend his rules and boundaries now, but there's no harm in fantasizing about what could happen later. So she begins compiling a list...

Or the LolaShoes trilogy : You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Let Your Light Shine by LolaShoes

The honeymoon beginning at the fade-to-black and continuing through Edward and Bella's exploration of intimacy, communication, and how to achieve forever together. ExB, AU Breaking Dawn. Rated M for lots of lemons.

A Life Extraordinary

Sequel to "Let Your Light Shine." After Bella's change, Edward and Bella explore how she's different, what their life can be, and what it means to love without fear or limits. AU, Rated M for lots of lemons

This Hungry World

Sequel to A Life Extraordinary. Love beyond sanity meets the real world, and both Bella and Edward struggle to find balance. How does forever look with your beloved when you want to own every second of every day?

The Vampire in the Basement by michellephants You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

While hunting one afternoon, the boys stumble upon what appears to be a corpse. When they learn it's a severely broken vampire, they take him home to do what they can to help. But of course, fate has plans for this man. Canon Couples. AU

Stranger Than Fiction by MasenVixen You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Six years after Edward left, Bella's written a bestselling book about a girl and the vampire who loves her. Edward returns to her, hell-bent on recapturing the happily ever after that he destroyed. AU. Rated M for lemons.

I'm currently reading Dog Star by spanglemaker9 You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

One choice is made and everything changes. Paths diverge, lead astray, and still lead home. AU.

It's a very slow burn so far, but her writing is amazing as always.  I'll let you know more when I'm further in.

(And FWIW, I flounced The Ex-Factor early in)

I am reading Let Your Love Shine as I type ( well not exactly, but you get my drift) It really is very good. It takes the rather lackluster honeymoon and turns it into something with a bit more vava voom! The good thing is, though the characters are canon I don't feel the need to slap Bella upside the head the way I did in the original series; go figure? I can also recommend Mark of Beauty( which was rec'd by a member yesterday) that is also vamp but a really interesting and intelligent take on the story; loved it!

I recently read Only Human and thought it was quite enjoyable.  Bonne Foi by this same author (with vampire Edward) was also very good.

I really enjoyed Dog Star.  The story was very different from Twilight, yet felt very canon and comfortable.  I love spanglemaker9.  The Wedding Party by this author was an early fic for me and is still one of my favorites.  Canon couples, but all human.

Can I just say that I don't understand why so many people think 'Out of Sight, Out of Mind' is so good? To me it was so predictable... I tried reading it because I read a lot of post about it and decide to give it a try,. but I have to say... I don't think it's that great. :o

I loved it, but it was my first fanfic so I have nothing to compare it to really.  I liked that it was canon and I liked how smoothly it picked up after reading the first book.  Not sure if other fics do this or not, but it seemed to blend perfectly with the first story.

I have to admit though that I sort of like predictable once in a while...   I do think they drug out the last part too long, but other than that I thought it was really enjoyable!

I guess for being the first one you read it's ok, I've re-read some of the first fics I ever read and loved..... and can't believe I actually enjoyed them. I guess over time I've become super picky about what I read.  8)
