Have you guys read There is a Light?

I saw that it won the 2011 Fic of the Year over at The Lemonade Stand.   Is it really that good?

Trying to to figure out what to read after I finish the Let Your Light Shine trilogy by Lola Shoes.

I just finished it a few days ago.  I really liked it.  It's fairly angsty, but not painfully so since you're not waiting for updates.  I thought belladonnacullen did a good job.  Sometimes when you're moving between two different times it can get confusing, but this one didn't.  She has some issues with homonyms, but overall, her grammar and punctuation is decent.

I've read this. It was really good. Well written, intelligent and grown up. I'm on the last of Lolashoes' trilogy (LYLS has been my favorite of the series so far, though the end of ALE was pretty powerful) and wondering what to read next myself?

What can you guys tell me about Breathless Hunger by Idreamofeddy ? I've seen it mentioned lots of places, and I found what looks like a partial of it here. Is it complete, and what type of story is it?

Is it weird that I am fixated by his feet? I'm on my iPhone and I keep zooming in to see his FEET!

I was exactly the same! I just didn't want to mention it... ;)

Damn you're right!  His toes are so long.  Hmmm ...I wonder ..... *blushes at thought that the toes may be comparable in size to a not allowed to be mentioned body part*

I haven't read it yet. The copy I have is only 6 chapters, and there is an A/N for the sixth chapter:

AN: Okay, this is the last chapter to post for right now. I do promise I'll go to work on an update as soon as possible.

I doubt you'll find anyone to tell you anything about this story. If it only has 6 chapters, the author has gone AWOL and it's been pulled? Not sure anyone would have bothered to read it...Sometime you just have to let it go, like Bitter Sweet Symphony, one of many which a lot of us have had to admit defeat over :banghead:...Good luck though. :13:

Doesn't it just suck? I understand getting bored or getting busy, but I really don't get why some authors just wipe themselves off the net like that. At least leave a note on  the FF.net profile, lol!

It was pulled incomplete.  As was The Orbiting Meteor by her.  Breathless Hunger had violence and rape in it.  It was meant to be Bella/Jasper (I think) but there really wasn't very much posted...

I'm still trying to figure out searching with fanfiction.net...    Do the number of "favs" just mean how many people have marked it as a favorite?

Is there any way to search twilight fanfic to see which ones have the most favs?

Yup. It's the number of people who have marked it as a favourite. But there is no way to filter a search using it, at least not yet.

It would be a pretty subjective way to search, albeit interesting, and I don't really know of how much use really. I don't put much stock in the number of reviews or favourites a story has any more. I've found so many that I've really, really enjoyed that had hardly any reviews and favourites and some that have a tonne that I've not liked at all. I just go by plot, and then if it's rubbish give it the flick.

Slightly off Topic but...I want to know how you ladies all feel about the Thank-You button. How we use it, when we use it and, why do you think Rob has such pretty feet? Woops! No. Sorry. Wrong train of thought (still fixated) .....How important is the Thank You button? Why is it even there, what purpose does it serve? How we feel about members that very rarely use it (do they be kicked off the island?); is there an etiquette to using it? Do you think they'll feel nice a soft tangled around mine in bed (stop it! :021:)

I tend to stick stories in favourites that I haven't got around to reading it yet, so if I get a Fan fic rec I go to the page, mark it as favourite, once I month I use fanfiction downloader and transfer it to Calibre where it sits on my TBR list. So it'd be no good assuming that the story with the most favourites would be the best out there because using my criteria those stories would not even have been read so can't be judged...And I agree with Illabeth, I don't put any stock in the number of reviews or favourites a story has anymore....

I think it's there to, well, be a way to say thank-you when someone helps you out; for example by giving you information you requested, reccing a story you enjoy or the like; basically as a way to motivate people to be helpful and kind.

I always give a thank-you when I DL something, when people answer questions (mine or others) or give recs that I end up liking. I also think I've used it a tad like the 'like' button on FB, lol, when people say something I agree with, or that I'm glad they've shared I'll give them a thank-you.

As for members who rarely use it, I suppose it's up to them to decide when they do. Although I do think it's a bit dodgy when they don't thank members who go out of their way to help them, or if they don't thank when they DL. I think it's just polite to thank people when they help you.

Thanks for the tips on "favs" at fanfiction.net!  That makes sense, so I won't pay much attention to those.

About the Thank You button...   I also use it to thank people for answering questions or giving good recommendations etc.

Thank you Illabeth. We're on the same page. I know that recs and uploads take time and Thank You is just a quick click. I'd rather over give, than be stingy about it. I just wondered what other members thought, and if I was up to date with how others used the button... :-*

There are some communities on ffn that point out fics with 1000+ reviews if you want to go that route.  Here are a couple:

I like the underappreciated fics community to find some gems: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

If you only want completed fics, there's this one: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

What I like about the communities is that someone else has done some of the legwork for you.  You still have to decide if you're interested in anything they're recommending.

I think they will look much better tangled with mine ...all nice and long um uh oh ..did I write that down?

On this thread, for me it's a thanks for the rec or comment, or sometimes it's instead of the LOL!  button because your comment made me laugh.  On the other thread? Yeah, usually a thanks for the download or link. ;D
