I'm not keen on HS fics (as stated in previous posts) A lot of the ones I've read are so unrealistic, the "children" are either sexually depraved, chemically enhanced, sociopaths or manipulative, materialistic (started reading one where Alice gave Bella a $5000 gift card from Nordstrom, I quickly flounced) Dimbats. Either things have really changed since I went to school or some HS Twifics writers should just start calling it what it is, SciFi.  Yesterday while whiling away the hours in a community "bar", Twicoholic that I am, I stumbled across Starry Eyed Inside. A HS fic which is age appropriate, as in the characters feel/read like high-school  children and not The Real Housewives of Where-ever, realistic, it charts pretty accurately those first feeling of infatuation experienced by all girls of a certain age, and well written, I didn't notice any glaring spelling or grammatical mistakes. It was "sweet" for want of a better word, the angst came in the form of...well, being 14-15 year old and just "really, really liking a guy" and the inability of being able to process or express those new feelings. As I said, appropriate and sweet. No crashing cymbals or fanfair just good story-telling. 3 out 5. * warning*

I finished the fic I posted about a couple days ago, Rekindled Ashes and it was really good. Even though it's listed as a tragedy, there were no character deaths....maybe it was because it's a bit of an apocalyptic fic. Anyhow, I really liked it. Third person POV but done so well that you KINDA get both BPOV and JPOV in each chapter. Not sure how to describe it, to be honest. It's not a lemony story, but that didn't both me this time, probably because I was so into it (but I love these kinds of stories). I think it was almost 3/4 of the way through before they had any sexy times

Anyways, I rec this one :)

Hi to everyone!!!

After a few days I went and read The Girl from the Imperial Theatre by compass54, and well it started ok, what really started to bug me was instead of the author using yeah, the author writes yeh, which drove me even more bonkers then I already am  :pulling but anyway I went keep reading and don't flounce, maybe it will get better, but it got more and more anoying and well I had to flounce
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

And now started to read A Different Kind of Pain by SparklingWand and so far so good tell you more as soon as I finish it

Please calm me down. I am no expert on grammar, and hated it when my own annoying sisters would correct me, but I am over the top irritated, I realize, when I read "Edward and I's car" or "If I didn't of had my baby" in a story. I know to flounce, but aren't betas supposed to fix this stuff?  I read in some Author's Notes that reviewers were less than gracious about things like this, but maybe the authors need to hear this stuff to improve their writing or stop using a certain beta?

What a bitch I am! The reason I get angry, I think,  is sometimes the story idea is so intriguing that I want to know the outcome, and how the author designed the story - that stuff fascinates me, and these authors are unbelievably generous with their time and creativity. I want to honor them, but when I encounter blatant errors, I lose a little respect for the author and stop reading it.   I guess I'll go call a therapist now because this overreaction on my part speaks to MY issues with my own inability to write - and my sisters!!
Thank you for allowing me to sit at your table.

No, I think you're correct.  There are some basic grammar rules that a writer and a beta should know.  This one kills me:  her and I.  I see it all the time and it drives me crazy!!!

Yeah, that one!  (Like 'Jasper looked at Edward and I' should be 'Jasper looked at Edward and me'? As if Edward wasn't in the phrase...you wouldn't say Jasper looked at I.)  That drives me crazy, too. Thank you for joining me in my rant.

A while ago, I was reading a story about Bella as an abused wife, and the author kept using the term 'wifebeater' as a shirt people would wear in her story. That struck me as odd, or sadly oblivious to the word.  I know this is a common term for a muscle shirt, but to be accepted as a term kind of numbs society to the horror of domestic violence. Too militant?
Thank you for allowing me to sit at your table.

Mine by Leon McFrenchington is a rec. I got but cannot find a completed version. I found a doc that goes up to 35 chapters. Does anyone have a completed version. I have searched everywhere but unable to find.

It is not posted on here that I can find, and my copy only goes to Chapter 6.  I would love it if you would post what you have.

My mistake, it's page 35, chapter 6......so sorry.
On the same thread two other fics by LMcF were recc'ed....pnnss and wg...how vague is that? I have no idea what to look for. Does anyone have a clue? Or might actually have these fics.
Much appreciated

This is good, but there is one problem... some authors don't bother hitting the complete button and you're left wondering...

I have enjoyed everything that I have read written by Rochelle Allison. I'll bump this one up the list.

Not too militant at all. I was never clear why/how a vest, as we call them on this side of the pond, got the name "wifebeater" and why anyone would self-proclaim wearing one?

I think when they originally got the name it was because only classless guys who beat their wives wore them without a shirt covering them.  Really they are what we used to call an undershirt. A businessman would wear it under his dress shirt simular to a woman wearing a slip. Tee shits were also only worn under dress shirts. One was not normally seen outside of the house in one's underwear.  They were also not the heavier fabric they use now. So a guy hanging around outside his house drinking beer all day wearing his undershirt only? Yeah, he probably beats his wife too.  It's a stereotype thing that stuck.  ;)

I'll probably wait for the DVD - I'm not so crazy about crowded theaters and sitting 2 hours without a pause button ;D

So my question is - and you can use the spoiler button if you need to, it there a big fight at the end with the Volturi, or do they work it all out like in the book?

You know, you can just say "You will be really annoyed" and I will understand *grumbles darn movie makers and their need for action*  :-\

Thanks  :-*

I've always wondered why it was called a wife beater, but too lazy to look it up. Thanks!

So that's what the author meant when they said "she wore a vest and sweat pants to bed"! I've always thought of vests as the one you wear under a suit, on top of a dress shirt. Needless to say, i was quite puzzled with that description of sleepwear.

Here, we call those undershirts "sando".
