I think when they originally got the name it was because only classless guys who beat their wives wore them without a shirt covering them.  Really they are what we used to call an undershirt. A businessman would wear it under his dress shirt simular to a woman wearing a slip. Tee shits were also only worn under dress shirts. One was not normally seen outside of the house in one's underwear.  They were also not the heavier fabric they use now. So a guy hanging around outside his house drinking beer all day wearing his undershirt only? Yeah, he probably beats his wife too.  It's a stereotype thing that stuck.  ;)

Ella, that explanation? It's too much! :D It is an awful, awful stereotype which just reiterates my point.

I have enjoyed everything that I have read written by Rochelle Allison. I'll bump this one up the list.

And here is another one Glimmer Darkly. This is vampward. I haven't read very many vamp fics; this is only my third but with the other two being Mark of Beauty and Trippin, Slipping, Stumblestumblin (one of my favourite story across all genre!!!) it has quite a lot to live up too. Does it? to be honest I doubt any fic could go up against Trippin and win, but it is a very interesting take on the orginial Twilight story, it is almost all four books in one, with the time structure a bit back to front and...upside down. What do I mean?
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
Rochelle Allison has to be commended on the way she tackles this story and keeps it true, though much more dynamic, to the original, it is M rated so you get a fair about of lemons, that alone would be an improvement, right? But more than that as a primarily AH reader this was a really good halfway house for me.

I had my first experience with accidentally reading a incomplete fic last night. At about halfway through, I started getting concerned. I didn't see how the author would be able to finish it up nicely in the time left. About 20 pages left, I started panicking. On the last page, I shouted "nooo!" (in my head, hubby was sleeping beside me!) And then I find out the thing hasn't even been updated since March, although the author promised then it wasn't abandoned.

Fic in question was All Together Different by KristALchelle. This story was SO sad, I cried buckets reading it, and just when I was starting to hope things might look up, it cut off! Argh!

So how is everyone else's reading going?

LOL! You could have said.  I'm one of those people who don't have a problem with spoilers....partially because I tend to forget :banghead:  ;D

I read the end of stories all the time & if I don't read the whole thing right away? Yeah, I've forgot it  :P

But thanks ! :-*

I'm still carrying on my R Allison marathon. I've also read With or Without you now. Great characterization. but I didn't enjoyed it as much as some of the other stories. I think this tale would have benefited from being longer, it needed more "space". The worse thing for me is for a story is not to be given the freedom to grow, this felt rather.....rushed. But Allison is a very good writer so there was still lots to enjoy apart from that.

Hi guys! Have just seen BD Part2. Anyone else here who have watched it? Needless to say, Rob was his usual handsome self. Will comment more later as i don't want to give spoilers. Well, i liked it  :)

I'll probably wait for the DVD - I'm not so crazy about crowded theaters and sitting 2 hours without a pause button ;D

So my question is - and you can use the spoiler button if you need to, it there a big fight at the end with the Volturi, or do they work it all out like in the book?

You know, you can just say "You will be really annoyed" and I will understand *grumbles darn movie makers and their need for action*  :-\

Thanks  :-*
I think I'll be waiting for the DVD too, I'm so not a fan of the films, though I will be forever grateful for the emergence of hottie tottie Robbie.  The only element that really interests me is how they're going to change Stewart's slapped arse of a face into a Y-front dropping, show-stopping, awe-inspiring beauty, but from what I've seen in the trailers she still looks exactly the same, constipated.  :P ....Was that harsh?  :D

Thank my fashion design degree! Though frankly, we never called them wifebeaters.  They are undershirts if they are really lightweight and tank tops if they are the heavier ribbed fabric.  I think the use of the term in fiction is so that you get a picture of the type of guy wearing it - either a muscular young guy who likes to fight or an older drunk type. Probably has a lot of tattoos also.  Maybe a little rough looking & definitely a bad boy ;)

But I can see how the term is bothersome.  It's just tank top doesn't quite do it for us to get that image & as Booked said, a vest is something you wear over a shirt not on its own.  ;)

Could someone at least spoil the "jaw dropping surprise ending"? Cause I'm waiting for the dvd too, but admit to curiosity on what they changed.

I'm just really, really glad this film franchise is O.V.E.R! Errr? Ladies, would it be naughty if we lay bets on how long Robstern's  resuscitated relationship lasts now?  (Not OUR lovely Robstern who I'm sure if very happily relationed [that is not a word] )

Hmmm...thinking it depends on their acting gigs.  From what I heard, it used to be Kristen calling the shots in the relationship.  Now Rob is. I think if Rob finds someone better? She may be gone. But then again, she may get tired also.  From what I understood, she was still technically with her ex when she & Rob got together. :P  So who knows ;)  Not sure I care, other than whatever makes Rob happy makes me happy ;D

It's always felt kinda fake to me anyway. But even if it's real, they're both young, so I'm guessing it lasts until one or the other falls for the next hot hopefully single person they star opposite of.

Can I just say that, even though reboots usually irritate me to no end, this is one series that I'm kinda hoping the studios decide to reboot fairly soon, with someone who can actually ACT playing Bella, and less over the top on the acting choices.

LOL! I loved that story.  I heard Rob had a crush on Kristen before the first movie, but was told to back off because she was underage.  However, when the hot guy who all the fans like is interested in you? Yeah, I question her motives because she doesn't seem as into the relationship. I guess acting happy is not in her arsenal.

And? Not sure if they can do it better without rewriting the whole thing.  Including the books. ;)

First - Not a robsten fan.  I was happy for them to part, although sad about the way it happened.  However, I don't have enough time or energy to spend on someone else's relationship (except the fictional ones I'm obsessed with).

Second - Does anyone else do this or am I weird?  I was watching the new Upstairs, Downstairs and was totally appalled and grossed out when one of the major characters had an affair with this sister-in-law.  So, I'm thinking about it and a light bulb goes off above my head. Hey, I've read one (or more) stories in which Edward and Bella are in-laws and have an affair.  Brotherly Devotion comes to mind.  And I was not grossed out about that.  Is it because Edward and Bella belong together and no one should get in their way?  It seems I'll forgive Edward and Bella all kinds of wrong doing to be together and no one else (including other fictional characters) get that kind of leeway.

So am I alone in this quirk or are there others who feel the same way?

She was underage?! How old was she? What is the legal age of consent in the US? It's 16 in the UK and I KNOW that she had to have been more than 16!!!

I think you hit the nail in the head, I think we are all ( in Twificdom) so invested in the characters that we let them fictionally get away with anything.  Though saying that this week I was mystified by the whoopla regarding Petraeus. I'm not totally behind the idea that someone should lose their job over an affair, that is  a private matter; lose your wife, your bank account, your house, your suits, your Ferrari. But your job? Unless he is performing his duties as head of the CIA with him peen, then...surely it's a different set of skills? I suppose there's the danger of blackmail but once the affair is out that's no longer an issue, state secrets via pillow talk? Surely his wive must have heard some of those too in which case? I don't know; I keep shouting at the TV, "IT"S JUST SEX PEOPLE!" From everything I've heard this is a man that was very good at what he did PROFESSIONALLY how does a personal mistake take away from that?!

I think she was 17.  The age of consent can vary by state here in the US.  She also had a boyfriend, although (sorry, Robsten fans) that doesn't seem to make a difference.

It's 16 in Aus too. Maybe it's 18? She was born in 1990 so she would have been 17 when they were filming the first one...

Also putting my little bit in on the 'wifebeater' discussion:

In Aus a wifebeater = singlet, Vest = Waistcoat and what we call a vest is a v-neck jumper without sleeves; I'm guessing what I've seen them called in fic as 'sweater vests'.

17! She clearly hasn't been using her Oil of Ulay...

Almost the same apart from singlet and v-neck jumper without sleeves= a sleeveless jumper  :D
