I love doing Christmas shopping online!

I love shopping online - I get all of my makeup, skin care, hair products, perfume, (and books before I discovered FF) online - soooo much cheaper than the shops...but...

The Aussie retail industry is dying! The Aussie dollar is really strong so everyone is buying online from overseas.

There was a special on-line sale held last night to try to boost the retail industry:

Click Frenzy is Australia’s first national online-only mega-sale. For one day only on the third Tuesday in November every year, get fantastic online bargains from hundreds of online retailers across fashion, consumer electronics, homewares, appliances, books, toys, healthy and beauty products, furniture, automotive, computers, cosmetics, jewellery, outdoor, wine, beer, spirits and more!

Small problem - the entire network crashed within seconds!  :33:

Though the cashmere sweaters at Kohls for $40 sure look tempting ;) Sigh...not like I don't already have enough :D

One can never have enough cashmere sweaters...unless one lives in a place that only has one week of winter!

We had 36C (97F) here today. It was 40C (108F) in my car at 4:00pm.

Lol on the bikini turkey!

We are staying home tomorrow and I'm gonna TRY and cook a turkey....for the first time ever. Now I'm about as far from Rachel Ray as you can get so we'll see how this turns out. I keep picturing the turkey from Christmas Vacation and then ending up in a Chinese place like in Christmas Story lol.

And now they are starting Black Friday sales on Thanksgiving for some major retailers like Walmart and Target? Wth? So now people are going to go line up like at 3 on Thursday for the doors to open that evening? That's ridiculous, IMO. Why can't they leave it to start on Friday like they have for years and leave Thanksgiving alone to be with your family as it should be? I didn't Black Friday shopping one time....like 12 years ago. For what I need/want the deals aren't worth it and tbh I can't handle that kind of crowd and anxiety level.

And I had a TV repaired last year and the guy I spoke with told me (which is probably common knowledge but I had never spent any time really thinking of it) that the electronics that are sold (I think he was referring mainly to TVs) on Black Friday are actually commissioned by retailers such as Walmart to be made specifically for that day. So Walmart will go to, for example, RCA and have X amount of plasmas made for X price. Apparently they are almost always lower quality, have less features than normal. Basically, you get what you pay for.

I don't even know if that all made sense, I'm still on my first cup of coffee lol.

Makes total sense about the electronics. I usually only get stuff that is marked at the after Christmas sales price.  Mostly though, black Friday I avoid except online. The crowds drive me crazy.

I've been doing a decent Turkey for a while.  Let me tell you what I do - this is from a mix of Martha Stewart & Joy of Cooking. I normally brine the turkey between overnight & 24 hours- depending on how frozen it is. I do it in a cooler - one of those things you put food in for camping or picnics that keeps it cold. Fill the cooler with water, mix in salt - I think it's about a cup to a gallon of water. I usually use kosher salt. I also normally add some rosemary and lemon, not too much.  After the salt disolves, I add the Turkey and ice - the water was cold from the tap. But if the turkey is still frozen? Yeah, ice not needed.  A couple years ago, it was so frozen, I threw it in with the giblets paper still inside LOL!  Came out fine.

Rinse it well before you cook it.  I also make stuffing separate & put an onion, some celery, & a cup of chicken broth in the cavity. Cover for the first few hours & leave uncovered only the last hour or so. Temp & est cooking time should be on the package.  Anyway, I get good reviews on this.  I also baste about every half hour or so.  Which means I've been known to forget ;D  Good Luck! :-*

I started this discussion on Facebook I'm curious what you gals think?
I've been looking for awhile off and on for a broken Bella fic. I've found plenty my problem is I can't read a Bella gets raped story and most of them contain rape. This is not normal for me in the published world I can read anything and have no problem. But with FF I don't know if I can describe it right, but I'm afraid to read one. When I first started reading FF I read a story (I won't share the story or the author because I don't want to prejudice anyone against her or have anyone think I'm against her) she writes amazing stories, but this story was quickly become one of my favorites I had a moment in the beg where I thought something might happen was trying to prepare myself then she's saved! But at the end out of left field she's kidnapped and raped as revenge against Edward now I was not expecting this and rape is by no means a trigger for me but after reading this portion of the story I threw up starting having an anxiety attack and have not been able to read a rape story since. (My brain is not a fun place to be) Now I've never been raped or attacked so i can't imagine what that did to someone that has been. With that being said I am extremely curious about the influx of fics written with this component included. I get wanting to break a character and build them back up or adding a twist to your story to wow the audience etc. But why has the breaking been chosen to be rape. Recently it seems that a lot of fics are incorporating this into stories which means there are becoming fewer for me to enjoy. (I'm a greedy bitch lol). Can anyone enlighten me? I'm not judging I really am just very curious.

I don't like to read graphic rape scenes.  And I know for a lot of these writers there is no other way to have a broken Bella. So I'm okay if it starts with Bella already broken -like in Torn or Wisp- but I'm with you about reading rape scenes. I can deal with the aftermath but not the actual stuff.

I do think some of it comes from Twilight. Rose was gang raped & left for dead...Bella was almost raped and saved by Edward.  And though I LOVED how Rosalie got even? Yeah, I prefer the way Bella got rescued ;)

Ohh see you're lucky there I do all the cooking throughout most of the year (I do not enjoy it) but for Thanksgiving and Christmas Hubby is in his element. He informed me this morning that was late for work because he's in holiday mode lol.. I'm sitting here eating a delicious donut ruining my diet and loving every little second of it..

Well, I'm happy for her & I love that she kept her ff name, but I couldn't read it as a fanfiction so I'm not sure I could read it as a novel.  I'm not really into BDSM - I like to be in control of me too much, so Bella being submissive annoys me too much. I didn't mind MOTU because ultimately? She said no to the submissive stuff.

You talk about all these writers having Bella get raped. Well I found it annoying that Icy writes a story containing some BDSM & everyone else has to do it as well.  Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the kinky stuff, but it was the story behind the why he neededit & how Bella made him realize he didn't need it anymore that I liked. Okay. *steps off soapbox* :P

I've been married for 30 years and have yet to cook a holiday dinner.  My husband does almost all of it (with me sometimes dictating the menu!).  I make some great mashed potatoes and that is usually my only contribution.  Do I like this? Oh yes, I do!

Of course, I have to do ALL the Christmas shopping and wrapping.  But I've learned to enlist the help of my children, particularly with the wrapping.

Same here, hubby does just about all the holiday cooking- turkey, ham, potato salad, dressing. I do the green beans and the mac and cheese, and the cleanup.

To be honest, I think he gets the better end of the deal, cause I'm constantly cleaning up after him, he's a MESSY cook.

OMG me too. I always feel like the only one not reading all these BDSM stories, because I just can NOT with the subby female, I can't do it. A little spanking and even a necktie or some handcuffs, I can deal with, but once it gets to the woman on her knees, Yes Sir, No Sir/Master, I'm just DONE.

lol looks like there are quite a few of us that are lucky in the don't have to cook for an army campaign.. I love having everyone over and enjoy spending time with them but I refuse to subject them to my cooking lol. Like I said hubby is way better at it. This year my 18 year old daughter is taking cooking classes so he is having her work with him in the kitchen so little I would do (peel potatoes, or apples, etc) she will do.. You are lucky Ficfangirl that your children can help you with the wrapping ect my kids are little tattle tales nothing would be a surprise at my house Christmas day! (I will sadly tell you that they get their ability to not keep a secret from me)  :'(

I'll admit my kids don't always know what they're wrapping.  I'm notorious for putting gifts in boxes that have no relation to what's inside.  My daughter (who is coming home from college today - YAY!) is now generally taken into my confidence.  But the boys?  Pfft.

Wow I have been out of the loop. EP / Sempre gonna be made into a movie ?

The office is getting published with a sequel we have never read......what else have I missed?

I'm bouncy clapping all over for Sempre. This is a story that needed to be made a movie. JM soooo deserves it! It's so different than EP but I love them both equally. She has my total respect for writing EP then writing it again but completely different  :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Unlike others, who bash their readers  :violent-smiley-007: :sign0023: :sign0023: :sign0023: and get a crazy movie deal and changed nothing in the story  >:( >:( >:(

Sorry, but this is a goodie that will be hitting the big screen  :bravo_2:
~No, no. I'm laughing at you not with you~

How different is Sempre from EP? I've read the published version (that and Gabriel's Inferno were what brought me to Twific) but not the fan fiction....I understand it hella long, the fan fic, is it worth reading?
