Wow! I love it.  But then I love my bookshelves.  All 15 of them (and adding)   8)

But WTH?  There are empty spots on the shelves? How does that happen???? ;)

I wanted to create those stair bookshelves (and I was willing to do it only on one side) and my husband said no way.  He's no fun.

Calibre setup

OMG this is going to be some project. I already had my real books in calibre, but the only ff I had were the ones that I had to convert. Geez, it will be a long process. I have attached how I am trying to set mine up.

Anyone doing it this way?

I need to separate them out by reading lists.  My biggest problem? I have too many computers.  So I thought I had set up a fanfic reading list with a bunch of stories in it, but now I can't find it on this computer.  ???
Thinking is is on the desktop. Sigh.

The other problem was I got a nook.  So I tried to download all my kindle books to de-DRM & convert.  Well, I had gone crazy on the free books when I first got it.  Downloaded everything because they sometimes would suddenly be 99 cents after being free before I could read it.  So - looks interesting? download.  Now Calibre is filled with all these books.  I want them in a "deal with later" list.  I should mention, this was before I discovered fanfiction, so I actually would read these stories.  Or at least the first chapters....

So can you make stuff disappear without removing it from Calibre?  I'd like to get the Fanfic into one section and the "real" books into another.  I should mention that I did used to have all the fanfiction and books sorted on my kindle as I added them.  That was before it crashed and I had to re-format it back to the original. So I guess that was how I did it originally.  Now it is a mess.  :P

Dang sure is. I haven't even exploded all the zip files we did by alphabet. I have no idea how many I will have after that. Instead of a couple of hours project....this might be my New Year's resolution. GAH !

After reading your original post I added the yes/no for completed and read, as well as a TBR (in order to sort the things I want to read next) and I added a tag column for Type of Edward, since that is usually how I sort.

I have one laptop, an ipad, and a kindle. My kindle only has the current books I am reading. In fact, hubs has confiscated his xmas present from him to me and takes it with him as he flies all over the world. I have to load what he wants to read though. He doesn't want to take his ipad.

My ipad is filled with current reading material - mostly books and a few ff. I remove them when I have read them. (same with kindle)

Can you add a yes/no column and label it "deal with later" ?

You can create more than one library in calibre. I have a FF library and an everything else library. You have to go to where you want your library to be saved, and create a folder and name it. Mine is Calibre FF. Then open calibre and select switch/create library. Point it to the new location- the folder you just created, and select "create new library at this location", and you'll have a new, empty library. Add your FF books there. Then when you want to go to your other books, you select Quick Switch to go back to your other library.

To be safe, back up your regular library in another location. I have deleted the whole thing on accident before, then had to pull them back off my kindle back into calibre.

LOL! The main reason I organize is to try to remember what I wanted to read next.  There are so many yet I can never remember which was next when I finish something.   :banghead:

Yeah, I have learned the hard way to add stuff in batches, and tag EVERYTHING, it makes it easier to backup, move around, and find things.

Once it's all tagged, it's much easier to just tag new stuff as you add it.

O that wasn't too bad to redo.
I too created a library called Calibre FF and checked the box to keep same setup.
Added my new custom columns.
Then I went back to my original library.
Held the shift key and grabbed all that I wanted.
Then right clicked and hit copy to new Calibre FF and delete after copy.
Voila.

*wipes forehead* ok now to keep tagging.

So far I have only done completed Fan Fiction that I had on my computer, so a least now I'll know to start a new library for "normal" books.  I have also added a Flounced column for fics I've started and the date I flounced, that way when a fic is marked "not read" I also know I tried...Jesus! This is a Project with a capital P!
