I really think the issue that people have with FSoG actually stems with how the author turned on her fan base - she had all of these people supporting her, and then essentially called them all a bunch of sexually frustrated idiots for reading twific. And then the suing over others using the term "fifty shades of..." - just very hypocritical.

I just fell in love wiff you  :-* :-*

I remember when she was writing it and asking questions on Twitter. She was basically asking things in an extremely condescending manner. I wanted to punch her  >:(

Eggnog?  :sign0137:

That's one Christmas tradition that hasn't really taken off in Australia - warm milk and egg juice on a 40C (104F) day. No thanks.

I do get the concept - enjoyed far too many eggnogs, mulled wines and buttered rums when I had Christmas in Europe a few years ago!

But there will be PLENTY of other libations!

Oh goodness - now I sound like a Pervy Alcoholic!  :-[

WOOT! I hate eggnog but it's Christmassy so...

I don't really like the Dom/Sub stuff, nor the S&M stuff. Doesn't matter to me if they know they are getting into it or not.  Just not my idea of a good read.  I also am not really into the public stuff that sometimes goes with it, for example, I started reading Mistaken Bondage by Savannavansmutsmut.  She writes some good stuff. But I didn't like the family involvement in everyone's sex lives and "public" sex.

And, it's a to each her own.  I can understand wanting to read it, it's just not me.  ;D

I live vicariously through my reading - I would never actually engage in anything like this - I'm really very shy and most people would call me a prude.

Really.

I think I might even be a born again virgin... :o :'(

I'm in a smut group over on goodreads. Now I LOVE me a good dirty read, but it seems like just about everyone in the group reads the BDSM themed books, but me! I'll see them talking about some book or other, how good they are, and I try, I really do, but I can never get past the first time the woman is made to kneel at his feet and say call him "Sir" or"Master". I'm much better with the bondage and the spanking part than I am with the submission part.

My S-I-L didn't think things through when she invited me to be a friend on Goodreads - I know far too much about her now! She's into a lot of kinky shit!!!

And whenever I see my brother smiling now... :sign0137:

WOOT! I hate eggnog but it's Christmassy so...

In Australia, beer is Christmassy. Wine and bubbly is Christmassy. Rum is Christmassy (we have Bundaberg Rum - it's a dark rum that is unlike any other rum in the world). Even margaritas are Christmassy.

But raw egg juice in Summer? No, that's just asking for salmonella!

We used to start our Christmas at 6:00am with breakfast with the neighbours. The bubbly bottles were popped then and some years we didn't stop until 27 December.

You can't do that with raw egg! No matter how much cinnamon and nutmeg you use!

No worries there - I enjoyed it too. I mean, I'll read anything (except autobiographies  :sign0137:) and these were a nice easy read. They'll never win a Pulitzer but I read for entertainment and just want to switch off my brain when I read.

Totally agree with you. When i was in college then after i started working, i would read those Ludlums, Forsythes, Christies, Kings (suspense, espionage  etc.). But as the years went by, I turned to reading for entertainment. It was my escape from work, to de-stress. So i now prefer reading stuff that does not require much thinking, like romance novels  ;)

My husband, unfortunately, loves bios and other real life, non-fiction, which I absolutely hate! I just smirk at him when he comments how i love to read romance/smut. To each his own, right?

LOL! I'm the same - except it makes me feel a little violent - "Just how far up your a** do you want your balls sir? Yes, that's what I thought!"

I would not make a good sub.

Bondage and some of the kinky stuff? yeah, I'm good.   8)

Again, same here. Remember, i've been married 17 yrs to the only man i've ever kissed, let alone you know what... Am definitely not into BDSM but it is an eyeopener reading that and all other stuff out there  ;)  Quite fun and interesting to read but i may not ever have the guts to try some of them.

I actually read MOTU when it was a WIP (back in the day when I still read WIPs) and even though they are essentially identical except for names, it was a more gripping read when you had to wait for a week to read the next chapter. I think it's what it must have been like listening to "the wireless" back in the 30s and 40s. My parents still have fond memories of the whole family tuning in each week for the next instalment - although I'm sure the content was NOTHING like MOTU/FSoG!!!

I really think the issue that people have with FSoG actually stems with how the author turned on her fan base - she had all of these people supporting her, and then essentially called them all a bunch of sexually frustrated idiots for reading twific. Yes, I think in some ways, the wait for the update makes it so you don't really notice the bad writing. And they she pulled it almost as soon as it was done.  Though I do give her kudos for actually finishing it and leaving it up long enough for us to read it.  It really bugs me when they pull to publish with the last chapter or two left, just so you'll buy the book.  >:(

I do agree with you though, she should not have turned on the fandom, but I kind of wonder if the fandom turned on her first for publishing.  I saw a lot of bashing when she first pulled.  People who were too late to read the story when all that was left was the last few chapters.  Though it did start my hoarding :0

And? I worked at a radio station when I was in college and on Saturday nights we re-played old radio shows.  It was great.  I really looked forward to the next episode.  So I could see how it was way back before TV when all you had were these great radio serials.  ;)

LOL! I'm the same - except it makes me feel a little violent - "Just how far up your a** do you want your balls sir? Yes, that's what I thought!"

Speaking of balls:  :D

A male patient is lying in bed in the hospital, wearing an oxygen mask over his mouth and nose, still heavily sedated from a difficult four hour, surgical procedure.

A young student nurse appears to give him a partial sponge bath.

Nurse', he mumbles, from behind the mask 'Are my testicles black?'

Embarrassed, the young nurse replies, ‘I don't know, Sir. I'm only here to wash your upper body and feet.'

He struggles to ask again, 'Nurse, are my testicles black?'

Concerned that he may elevate his vitals from worry about his testicles, she overcomes her embarrassment and sheepishly pulls back the covers. She raises his gown, holds his penis in one hand and his testicles in the other, lifting and moving them around.

Then, she takes a close look and says, 'There's nothing wrong with them, Sir !!'

The man pulls off his oxygen mask, smiles at her and says very slowly, 'Thank you very much. That was wonderful, but listen, very, very closely.....

I LOVE eggnog - even to the point I was just eating eggnog ice cream  :P

Now see, on a hot Christmas day - a cold eggnog shake with rum or whatever (thinking amaretto would be really good in it) - yeah.  Sounds great  8)

Eggnog ice-cream??? Only in America.

You should try doing something normal with an egg - like putting it with pineapple and beetroot on a hamburger. Delish!!!

But I do love me some Brandy Custard at Christmas time - it's only in the shops for a few weeks and I have seen people stockpiling like it's the millennium!

Actually, I think eggnog ice cream and custard are probably fairly similar.  I like the nutmeg in eggnog.  It's the only think I ever see it used in.

Beets, pineapple and eggs? Yeah, no.  Doesn't sound good to me.  Though I do like pineapple on my pepperoni pizza :)

I'll make you a deal - I will make Eggnog Icecream for Christmas if you try an Aussie Burger (seriously that's what they're called at Hungry Jack's, our version of Burger King) and they are the BEST!

You do have canned beetroot and pineapple rings over there, don't you? If so, whatever do you do with canned beetroot and pineapple rings if you don't put it on burgers???

LOL - we call them beets.  I sometimes put them on salads.  Some people use them in soup.  Truthfully, they aren't my favorite.

That said, I love pineapple.  I eat it plain right out of the can, but it goes well in all sorts of dessert-y things.

So a regular burger with an egg, a few beets, and pineapple?  Yeah, I'll have to think about it. Because of the beets.  Egg and pineapple on a burger? Sure, I can do that.  ;D

Mmm. I love beetroot on my burgers, the pineapple and egg not so much. I just love beetroot full stop.

It's funny you simply call them beets. I remember confusing some Americans when I talked about pumpkin, in the US I'm led to believe that there is only one type, in Aus we call everything pumpkin, butternut, Kent or Jap, QLD blue, it's all called pumpkin down here, none of that 'winter squash' nonsense.

At Christmas we don't have brandy custard, my grandma makes brandy butter (although she uses a number of different liqueurs and spirits in it). Talk about clogging your arteries. If you're going to have alcoholic custard my thoughts are why bother? Just drink Advocaat.

Hmmm.  Never tried it.  But it sounds good.

I love squash of all kinds, but you are right, we only call the big orange one a pumpkin.  I guess we call it all squash.  I always find the differences interesting.  I sometimes wonder where it started,  "I don't know what it is? the seeds look like pumpkin seeds....lets just call it pumpkin"

And? I guess beetroot makes sense, since you are talking about eating the beet's root, as compared to the greens.   Maybe we're just lazy on this one  :P

Yeah - I think you got the better end of that stick! I can't handle raw egg - even when I'm cracking an egg to cook, if any gets on my hands or I smell raw egg - blurgh! Be grateful I didn't challenge you with what I had for breakfast yesterday - toast, vegemite, cheese and beetroot. Yum!

My family eats a lot of beetroot (beets makes me think of the green leafy vegetable - silverbeet or perhaps you call it chard?) - to the point where I thought I was haemorrhaging once, until I remembered what I'd eaten the day before! Sorry - TMI!

We get the fresh beetroots and either roast or boil them. I also occasionally, when I'm going through a health kick, juice them too but I'd say most Aussies have still never had fresh beetroot - the canned stuff is pretty much a staple, but I'd guess that canned beetroot slices sell a lot more than whole canned beetroots - they're a bit fancy  ;)

A family joke that someone always says when the beetroot gets put on the table (and you have to remember what "root" means in Australia)...

"You can't beat a root!"  :D :D :D

OK - now I'm off to find a recipe for egg nog ice-cream...

I love silverbeet. We have the fresh beetroot a lot, in fact we grow them in our kitchen garden. I like them roasted best. But you still can't beat them out of a can!

As for raw egg. I love eggs in all forms. I don't care if it's raw or cooked. My brother has a raw egg in his juice each morning and I often put them in my smoothies for a protein boost. I also love to bake, and as such eat my fair share of raw batters, be they biscuit or cake. I've never gotten sick from raw egg, although I guess we're lucky to live in an area where there is little to no salmonella. I mean, we don't even store our eggs in the fridge.
