Yeah - I think you got the better end of that stick! I can't handle raw egg - even when I'm cracking an egg to cook, if any gets on my hands or I smell raw egg - blurgh! Be grateful I didn't challenge you with what I had for breakfast yesterday - toast, vegemite, cheese and beetroot. Yum!

My family eats a lot of beetroot (beets makes me think of the green leafy vegetable - silverbeet or perhaps you call it chard?) - to the point where I thought I was haemorrhaging once, until I remembered what I'd eaten the day before! Sorry - TMI!

We get the fresh beetroots and either roast or boil them. I also occasionally, when I'm going through a health kick, juice them too but I'd say most Aussies have still never had fresh beetroot - the canned stuff is pretty much a staple, but I'd guess that canned beetroot slices sell a lot more than whole canned beetroots - they're a bit fancy  ;)

A family joke that someone always says when the beetroot gets put on the table (and you have to remember what "root" means in Australia)...

"You can't beat a root!"  :D :D :D

OK - now I'm off to find a recipe for egg nog ice-cream...
Eggnog? yeah, pretty much custard - eggs and cream.  Though the eggs aren't really raw, since you heat the egg nog normally.  And the stuff from the store? all pasteurized. I'm not good with raw egg or even semi cooked eggs either.

Actually, I can get beetroot raw at the store in the full beet version.  I can even get it with leaves sometimes.  Sigh.  My hubs may like the egg on the burger.  I will have to wait until next week though - I'll be out of town and this is not something I can find outside our house  :-\

They have sliced and julienned in the can.

Now, I've been trying to find a way to make this Twific related because I'm always off topic, but I can only think of one liquid that is often described in Twilight fanfic as thick, creamy and delicious, and THAT sure isn't eggnog!

So after our little chat this morning and my promise to make Eggnog Icecream, I found Martha Stewart's Eggnog recipe (because everything Martha does is awesome, and everything thing she does with alcohol is even more awesome!), and merged it with my famous No Churn Margarita Icecream recipe (that I stole from Nigella Lawson), then I ducked down to the shops, and I now have a container of  something that smells and tastes delicious in the freezer. I've attached the recipe for any other brave souls - just remember this is the first time I've tried it and it will likely need tweaking.

I still can't imagine drinking too much of it on a hot day, but it really does taste very good - thank you for broadening my horizons, Ella! :-*

I'm a little worried that it won't freeze (it has a lot of bourbon, rum and cognac in it) but if it doesn't, we'll drink it! I have friends coming over for dinner tonight - they're used to being my guinea pigs. We're having Jalapeno & Bacon Poppers (cooked on the BBQ), Thai Beef Salad (also on the BBQ) and (hopefully!) Eggnog Icecream  - how very multicultural!

Back to my endeavour to be ON topic, here is a link to an Eggnog related o/s: Warning - It's Jasper and Edward...and eggnog!

I have just noticed that the status of fics (complete/in progress) is now on the title/cover page when I download from Flagfic. Is this new or have I been reading with my eyes closed again?

Fanfiction confessions: I've never read Clipped Wings and Inked Armour, I regularly skip 3-5 chapters at a time if I'm bored with a story and I thought The Office was boring. I feel much better now  :o

Frontline updated! Not that I understood half of it, but it's only 2 chapters from completion now so there'll be answers soon.

so I've been reading Wild Child... and I just want to ask is it just me or does anybody else find a seventeen year old Bella and a thirty-one year old Edward having sex a little disturbing? and he's her legal guardian!!!   :wtf:

Yep - but it's FF. Anything is possible and justifiable because it's B&E  :sign0137:. And often, the Bella is more mature than the Edward - you know, the "born mature" or "old soul" excuse. Usually, once she becomes "legal", the age difference is forgotten anyway.

I try not to think about age differences if I read fics like this.

Better than a 17 year old and a 107 year old though! I think that's what inspires all of the age difference fics.

All part of my daily routine anyway, I usually take the time between brushing my teeth and making my tea to do so  ;)

Big age differences set me on edge only when Bella is <~20 or so. Otherwise they don't bother me too much as Bella's usually a librarian type who's always been an adult blahblah.

I agree sometimes I don't give a crap about the age differences... but this Bella is just so immature... Gawd it drives me crazy, no matter if it's FF there is no way a 31 year old would put up with this crap.

I agree. I read it, but I didn't care for it to save a copy.
And the last couple of chapters, plot wise, angst for the sake of angst.

I agree  :iagree:

I liked the beginning, perused the middle cause there was a lot of repetitive plot and skimmed the end. Won't be re reading that one.

Mmmm I've been wanting to read this one but I guess I'll put it on hold for a while longer... I hate it when a fic gets repetitive, for me is a cause to flounce
Don't forget after downloading please press the Thank You button. It doesn't take too much of your time.

I almost did flounce, but since I had already read about 3/4 of the story I stuck with it. It was a good fic but could have done without the repetitiveness.

Sigh....another on my TBR list gets pushed down to the "When I'm desperate" section LOL!

A lot of times with these fics, I see it rec'd, read the first chapter, put it on follow because I don't know how good the writer is about updating, and read it when it's complete. But all I hear are bad things and the little bit I read? Doesn't make me like Bella much  :-\

Oh well, there are still a lot of stories out there.  Including CW&IA, which I also have not read.  I'm not usually big on tattoos, but lately? Adam Levine from Maroon 5 is hot & he has a lot of tattoos....I guess they aren't so bad  :D ;)

CW&IA is a really good read. Long and lots of heartfail but I love this broken Edward and Bella.

Wild Child was good but I was getting pissed at the same thing over and over. I get the behaviour and age but I mean really *sighs* ON the upside she updated every Thursday and Sunday, not that it matters cause it's complete  :D

Hey, I got asked to find that story and I know it but I don't remember title or author and I don't find it! It drives me crazy!

Quote
Edward Bella story - One part in the story that sticks out the most to me is a charity event for Halloween that Bella is asked to attend with Edward where she meets his family for the first time. Her gay best friend who I believe is Jake but I might be wrong creates her a goddess costume for the party. Later on when Christmas comes around Jake and Alice kick Bella and Edward out of their apartment while they decorate it for Christmas. I think Edward decides his gift for Bella is a bakery?

Does anyone recognize this?

And I put in my own all time lost story, perhaps you Ladies know it, but I'm pretty hopeless...  :(

Quote
Summary (as far as I remember): It's around 1918. Bella is a vampire, being changed by Carlisle ages ago, living with him like siblings ever since. Now Esme is with them too and they live in Chicago. Their neighbors are the Masens and she falls in love with their son, Edward. They get married secretly (he still hasn't figured out what she is). The flu strikes and Edward gets sick. He gets changed by Carlisle and Carlisle tells Bella he didn't survive the change. The story starts years later, Alice has joined the family and asks Bella to tell her lovestory. The story is told in flashbacks until Bella told her story and then they hear they get visitors from Alaska. One is Edward, who survived the change but lost his memories and left Carlisle after freaking out about being a monster...

I read this on FF.net about a year ago, I think it was my first Fanfiction in English...
