I came across this in a story I am reading, it's a quote that only a Twifanfic addict would appreciate:

"I have lived for hundreds of years, yet I have not been impressed by the passage of mere time. Technological developments are always interesting, but it has been humans that really make the endless years worth living. The way they endure, the way they always try. Their faith that tomorrow will be better, that they can be better. Call it faith, call it the soul, it matters not. Whatever it is, that spark of human belief, it has endlessly preoccupied my mind. It is why I wish I was not a monster, why I resisted feeding on humans all those years ago. I could not, in good conscience, snuff out that spark so that I might live." - Carlisle Cullen, Near To You, Chapter 3.

There are some real-life baddies around the world that could learn a lot from a fictional character we all know and love.

I really appreciate that I now have like minded people who do not think I am bonkers to share my addiction with.  Thanks for accepting me into your global community and for all the downloads, rec's and laughs. Outsiders may not understand our addiction, but it bonds together a world -wide group of people who help each other.  Maybe they could learn something from us?  (No RD, they do not need to learn about Robp o r n, or Astro, PK's!)  Merry Christmas everybody. H xxx   :-*

Yeah! Hathor me laugh!  :D :D :D Thank you! And a Merry Christmas to you too, it's a pleasure to be in  TAA (Twific Addicts Anonymous) with you :-*

Lots of fic funk going around this weekend! What do you feel in the mood for?

When it happens to me, I usually read a *gasp* real book or two, gets me right back in the twific mood.

That's where the issue started. I read 2 books in 2 days and now I can't find a fic I like. Something fluffy but not outrageous but with a story line. PWP is not my cup of tea atm :(

I need a hot badass Edward. Maybe I should give Frontline a go? Is this one any good. I've heard good and not so good things about this fic

Crap, I don't have much to rec as I haven't read canon in quite some time, I'm outta the loop  :o

I did see this one, not sure if it's good or not, though. It's not marked complete but it has only the epi left....and her author's note at the end says it's the last chapter. That the epi (that won't be posted, probably) is just normal epi stuff, weddings, grads, etc.

Anyhoo, I'll keep looking for others:

Totes off topic but...

I was just reading that the NRA wants to put armed guards in schools  >:(

This pisses me off. School is supposed to be a safe haven for children outside of home. How in the hell is this possible if there are guards with guns in elementary schools? I mean really! What in the hell does this teach children about emapthy and learning to stand on their own? Having a gun will solve their problems? I cannot stand this mentality. I guess it's because I'm Canadian and I don't get the "right to bear arms" thing. Guns in schools for any reason isn't appropriate. *steps off soap box*

Sorry for the rant, but this sucks and hurts my heart that schools feel the need to do this.

Oh God, don't get me started on this issue. Yesterday I watched the live press conference given by the NRA on this subject. How anyone can take the CEO of this organization seriously is beyond me! Honestly the man was clearly demented if he started sprouting about the need to bear arms against alien invasion I would not have been surprised. Putting armed guards in schools?! WFT  :wtf: (here just one kind of what the phuck won't do) So basically it will become a game of one upmanship, the guards will carry one type of gun so the crazy shooter will source an even bigger one! It's a mad, bad, world my friends

I am very clear where my Fic Funk has stemmed from. How happy I'd be right now if, just for a few days I suffered from some kind of selective short term memory loss, so that when I got up this morning I couldn't remember a single thing that I read yesterday...I know what I'd be reading  :D :D :D

Thanks for the rec's though, I have Breaking News on my TBR but the others were new to me. :-*

Sorry for the rant, but this sucks and hurts my heart that schools feel the need to do this.

Sometimes you just need a rant. As an Australian I suppose I'm not really qualified to comment on this topic except from the side of someone who lives in a country with very strict gun controls and is totally for them. Police, Protective Services Officers and Armaguards are about the only people in Australia who can legally have weapons on them when out in public, and those aren't even concealed. Most people in rural areas will own a gun, and those that hunt, but otherwise pretty much no one here owns a gun. I read somewhere that there is one gun per person owned in America, and those are just the legal ones, to me that is astounding and ridiculous.

I agree, school should be somewhere students feel safe, there shouldn't be a need to have armed guards at schools. What happened in Newtown was so unbelievably tragic and it's sad to think it's only the straw that broke the camel’s back. I know many people say guns don't kill people; people kill people, but whatever. If the people can't get the guns then most of them won't kill people. There is never going to be complete gun control in the USA like there is in Australia, it's a deeply ingrained part of your culture (however strange I find it, I can't comment, every culture is different), but do people really have a need for automatic weapons? No, they are not useful for anything other than killing people in large numbers, something that seems to becoming alarmingly common in the US.

I know they have the second amendment, and never having studied American History I will say this is only my opinion, think about when the constitution was written, guns were hardly commonplace, and to me (Having studied the English Bill of Right, which heavily influenced their constitution, along with linguistics) the wording 'A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed' seems to me to mean something more along the lines that people have the right to raise an army to protect the freedom of the country, and at the time people in the army were required to supply their own weapons. I have a feeling that their forefathers didn't really mean that any walley can own a gun and wield it as he pleases; they wanted the people to be able to protect and fight for their newly gained freedoms...Although I suppose that could be an overly simplistic view...

Don't even get me started on the NRA, to me the whole thing just screams lunacy. It's almost scary a gun lobby has so much control over the government...It makes me scared for what could happen in Australia (and already is to an extent) with Gina Rinehart and the other big Mining Magnates and bosses...

When I heard "the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun [sic]", my blood started to boil! Totally with you on the need for schools to be a safe haven and lack of understanding/empathy on the whole "right to bear arms" ammendent thing - especially as automatic weapons were not around back in 1787 (btw- Australia wasn't even settled/invaded (that's a whole different soap box) then).

I was ranting about this last night - my school is so underfunded. I would be wild if I had to redirect funds that should be spent on improving outcomes for students were to be redirected towards paying for an armed guard!!!

How does the US gun lobby have so much power?

How does the US gun lobby have so much power?

They have so much power because they can tell a senator, congressman/woman or a representative that they have 4 million members. And I would love to see a demographic break down of where these members are based within the USA, that will be quite telling. And don't worry about funding Astro the NRA are happy to provide training and will probably give you a discount on the semi autonomic weapons. I don't live in the US either, and UK gun laws are pretty damn strict, but world events/politics are a passion of mine so I tend to run my mouth on any ol' thing, sorry. :)

Oh and Illabeth your interpretation of the second amendment rocks! :You_Rock_Emoticon:

Crap, I don't have much to rec as I haven't read canon in quite some time, I'm outta the loop  :o

I did see this one, not sure if it's good or not, though. It's not marked complete but it has only the epi left....and her author's note at the end says it's the last chapter. That the epi (that won't be posted, probably) is just normal epi stuff, weddings, grads, etc.

Anyhoo, I'll keep looking for others:

I'm reading Rebel Child and I have to say that I really hate Charlie. I'm not usually a Charlie hater but WOW, he's a dick in this fic.

Also there are lots of typos and misuse of words but I'm plugging through because I really like the story line, reminds me of the Caged Bird. Renee was cray cray and all religious.

I am very clear where my Fic Funk has stemmed from. How happy I'd be right now if, just for a few days I suffered from some kind of selective short term memory loss, so that when I got up this morning I couldn't remember a single thing that I read yesterday...I know what I'd be reading  :D :D :D

I enjoy reading stories with humor to get me out of my angst filled funks.  One I recently read was
Dirt Roads
Storylink: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
Summary: Trucker hats, possums, and dirt roads. Shenanigans ensue. Is there really less trouble in the country, or are the kids just better at not getting caught? ExB, AH. Story contains mature themes.

It was just good ol' sh** kicking fun.  It is complete, just not marked.

Merry Christmas and or Happy Holidays to you and yours.  Cheers!  :-*
