Aaaaaaiiiiieeeee!!!  I just read a chapter of a WIP where the author says it's been beta'd. And I see this line...'Would her and Edward work out?'  Um NO!  Would she and Edward work out is what it should be.  I'm sorry but if you don't know English well enough to know that, you shouldn't be beta-ing. End rant.

This is why I love this place.  I really wanted to put that into the review, so I came here instead.  ;)

This is a safe place for you, sweetie.  And safer for the authors and betas, too.  Because we know they don't want to hear our rants about grammar, spelling and punctuation.  Although we could teach them so much!

I beta for 2 right now.  I'd do more but with work & school I don't really have the time :(

First thing? Look for grammar errors.  They both mostly catch the spelling errors except once in a while a homonym. So it annoys me if it's been beta'd yet still has stupid errors.  ;)

I hate to see something beta'd with the phrase "had went."  It's either went or had gone (e.g., Bella went to see Jacob    OR   Bella had gone to see Jacob      NOT     Bella had went to see Jacob).  I also don't understand the increased use of "of" in recent years (i.e., embarrassed of, bored of, should/would/could of).

For me it's "drug": He drug her out of bed, I drug my bag inside.

At one point I actually googled "past tense of drag" because it was used so much and thought maybe I had it wrong!

Do you mean Mens Rea?  I can't remember who wrote it but it is somewhere on my reading list.  Maybe it will drop.  A lot ;)

Hi Ella
Did you ever remember who wrote this Fic? Decided to add some non-HEA to my TBR list...

Mens rea - A Guilty Mind was written by forbidden-fruit81, but it no longer shows up on FFn, TWCS or Twilighted.

Maybe they intended to mean should've, would've or could've but thought "have" was "of" depending on their accent or how they pronounced it or how it sounded to them when spoken:  shouldof, wouldof, couldof  :D

If I know ahead of time that it is not a HEA, and go into it knowingly, then It doesn't bother me so much.  Its the blindside that gets me angry.  There is enough of that in RL.  I'm not looking for bad suprises in my fun time

I don't think people talk in correct English any more. So they hear could of instead of could've.??? It does sound alike.  And since spelling is mostly a memory thing? The more misspelled but looks correct words you see?  Yeah, you start forgetting what's correct.  .....Sigh....:P

Well hopefully it's a good enough story to make up for the not so good ending.   ;)

I don't know...I just think I might be getting a bit bored of HEA, I kind of want to see how an author would tackle E+B not riding off into the sunset...*Shrug* I might hate it and come screaming back to claim my rose-tinted glasses but I want to try wearing my Big Girl Pants for once  :D

WEell, so long as it not being a HEA wont upset you, Mens rea was a really good story, well written, great mystery, kept you coming back for more, and fantastic characterizations.  I recommend it, with the non-HEA disclaimer :brokenheart:

Mens Rea is a good story, but I remember that it had also an alternative HEA ending, I liked the one much better.... :-)

Agree. What makes things worse is the texting. If we keep texting in shortcuts, we do tend to forget how words are actually spelled. Have been conscious to spell out the entire words when texting my 13 yr old. daughter. however, am guilty of using shortcuts for the rest of my textmates  ;D
