See, this is why I love California. You can get wine, beer and hard liquor almost everywhere - grocery stores, Costco, Walmart, Target...the liquor store ....even the gas station if it has a mini mart.

Ah, Queensland. Where it's always sunny and 1955.

You'd be lucky to get a coffee at most of our gas stations (we call them service or petrol stations, or the servo) let alone alcohol!

But fortunately, we have lots of pubs and bottle-o's with drive-thru.

Seriously, is "grog shop" not universal? Is it just an Aussie term?

I hope it's not just family slang!

I've heard of "grog shops" though it could be because I've read a lot of Australian Harlequins.

I think they may be called that in the UK? But Demaris would have to confirm. It is an old term you sometimes see in place like Boston old-town. Though I think they use it as a term for a bar rather than an actual shop.

I actually passed it up the first two times I read it. But then I saw 2 more that were similar. And I've seen others. So I checked it out to see if it was really what it sounded like. It was. To me it is really strange to want a father figure to spank or swat kids in a story. But as I said, I think the writers are teens.
