Home For Christmas by: Carlisle Cares
Jessica Stanley is coming home for Christmas break. She has been partying too much at school and is having trouble completing her term papers. She has been taking energy shots and caffeine products to keep her awake so she can write her papers. What happens when she has to go to the ER. WARNING: This story will contain disciplinary spanking in later chapters.
Rated: Fiction T - English - Humor/Hurt/Comfort - Jessica & Carlisle - Chapters: 6 - Words: 11,366 - Reviews: 46 - Favs: 12 - Follows: 22 - Updated: 12-31-12 - Published: 12-17-12 - id: 8806375

Yeah, so I skimmed through the first couple chapters & Emmett does something stupid, which annoys Alice & Carlisle hears, so he grabs Emmett and swats him on the butt a couple times.

Please don't make me read anymore....please..... :sign0024: :sign0137: :wtf: :violent-smiley-007:

Okay, what's worse?  I looked at some of the reviews.  Really? This is good???

*shakes head*

But it seems to be a "Carlisle is a great dad" fic.

Well, that's better than what I was imagining  >:D

And we don't have Walmart - yet. One was approved by council last week for a few suburbs away from where my parents live.

Target might be more similar than I thought though. We can't buy any alcohol anywhere except at a bottle-o (grog shop, liquor store) or at a pub. In the southern states, you can buy beer and wine, etc in the grocery store. Not sure about spirits.

Here in Queensland, they like to make it a bit more difficult for us.  ;)

Haha. Down south, where the civilised people live (:P), we can by alcohol at a grog shop or pub, some supermarkets will have a section in them off to the side with a separate checkout where you can buy your alcohol, but you can't take it through the same line as your groceries. It seems so strange that we have such strict laws about selling alcohol but as soon as you are on private property there is no drinking age, that is anyone of any age can legally drink alcohol on private property. And in restaurants you only need to be 16 and you can drink alcohol if someone over 18 buys it for you.

None of those places like Target, Big W or K-mart sell groceries here, and most certainly not alcohol. About the only foodstuffs they sell are soft-drinks and confectionery. Some will also sell pet-food and crisps or party food.

I didn't know Walmart was coming down under...we have a couple of Costcos now but they're not as cheap as they make you think. Don't know how I feel about the Walmarts coming down under, wonder if they'll survive, we already have so many places like them.

It's amazing to think that when it's 7pm here in Melbourne that it's only midnight for some of you! Our New Years Day is almost over and yours has just begun!

Whoops! It's Costco that's coming up here, not Walmart.  :-[ Sorry - perhaps that's why Queenslanders can't buy booze with the groceries - we get confused too easily!

I spent a week on Lord Howe Island last year, no, it was 2011! If you don't know Lord Howe, google it - absolute heaven, it's where I'll be going on my honeymoon (...when I find a groom) and it was so awesome to be able to buy milk, bread, toilet paper, cheese and wine all in the one place.

Finally, something that NSW and Victoria do better than Queensland!  :P
I think our drinking laws must differ too - I'm pretty sure that you can't even serve alcohol to anyone under 18, even on private property.

Our crazy licensing laws don't stop us from drinking, though. I just watched the news and saw all of the arrests last night from public intoxication. So many mothers must be so pleased to see what their children got up to on NYE...on the news!.

REC Sold, Sight Unseen by Quothme

I have a recommendation for you all! I've been using one-shots and shorts to get me out of my post/pre Christmas Fic funk and the following is one I can recommend you give a shot.

Sold, Sight Unseen by quothme

The odds of him dialing her phone number are 3,720 to 1. Yet he does. Their chance conversation leads to something more. Something silly, then serious and a little scary. But in a good way. AU

It's only 10 chapters, they are not long ones and it works. Your typical girl meets boy and falls in love, but this is all over the phone, it's cute and sweet and all in all pretty inoffensive fun. The story as the typical separation drama but the fic is so short that I actually didn't mind, because it was dealt with so swiftly although Bella still does make me want to smack her upside the head, although that is not uncommon. Edward is sorta Geeky and really sweet in this, and both of them are a little bit of relationship idiots. The whole falling in love over the phone thing is pretty unrealistic but I mean, it's in no way meant to be a realistic fic and I think that is part of it's charm, it's almost a fairy tale. I ploughed through it in about an hour, so certainly short and sweet. A nice 'pick-me-up' if you will.

2013 is going to be super busy for me (I'm writing a thesis, eeek!) and that is starting right about now, so I won't be around much over January and not at all for the next week and a bit come Friday (just in case you all wondered where I had wandered off to :p).

Hey, I forgot earlier, but good luck with the thesis. If you need a proof reader, you know how to contact me.

And I promise NOT to use my phone for any editing!

Onto the next fic and on top of the horrendous use of 'southern speak' (The constant use of and the constant use of 'ya' in place of 'you' is slowly driving me bonkers) in writing the author seems to have a serious problem with grammatical overextension of the regular ending simple past and for the life of me I can't tell if it's deliberate or not due to the inane use of the damn accent. She keeps using the regular ending for the irregular verbs so we get little gems like "Now it comed down to it", "Everyone knowed that...", and "The last time I seened him". And this is only the beginning...

I'm beginning to think she is because I also found a few gems such as "cain't" and "warn't" I mean seriously?!? It's one thing to use the accent but do you have to make up your own ridiculous words? For heaven's sake describe him as having a strong southern accent, drop a few 'g's and leave me to read in peace without your annoying attempts at phonetic writing. I'm assuming she's really getting in on the twang. It's seriously about to send me up the bloody tree, if you really want it that way I'll break out my Doulos SIL unicode and write my review in IPA.

Wow...after that rant I'm thinking maybe I should just give this one the flick, but the plot seems actually interesting...I hate that. Good plot & terrible writing style = a match made in fan fic hell.

If you find my topic interesting then I can send it to you for some reading, no phones though, I don't want to have to explain to my supervisor about the child tits purchased at Target  :D :D :D

Title and author?

I am trying to cull my TBR list and keep adding instead!
Perhaps my NY resolution should be to pay more attention to reviews here and when one of you says to delete or flounce, I do it.

This is Resolution #5. Resolution #6 is to stick to a resolution for more than 10 minutes. Resolution #7 is not to make any more resolutions!

Wrap You In My Arms by Emmamama88
. I don't know, I may give it another go when I'm not in such a grouchy mood, but at the moment I can't deal with it. It's flipping horrendous, if I ever see the use of ya instead of you again it'll be too soon. I can't whittle down my TBR either, even this one will probably go back to the bottom of the heap for me to try again at some later date...we shall just have to see.

My resolution revolves around my ADHD and acquiring a brain-to-mouth filter. Also to quit being such a procrastinator and get some control over my OCDness; my need for routine and likeliness to flip out when it or other patterns are broken (I can't sit at the table with everyone if we don't all sit in our correct spots). I'm just seriously weird. I do wish myself luck.

UGH, I hate that! I just had this happen.

Is the fic you're read a jasper/bella one? I only ask because of the overuse of the accent. If so, could you put in a spoiler which it is (or pm me) so I can skip it if it's on my TBR list. I would never be able to read through all of that, the knowed, seened, etc would be it for me lol.

I finally found a picture to use for my avatar, and what a picture! So much pretty. I keep looking at it and doing a dreamy sigh :D

Also, I just started reading this: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login which some of you might be interested in. It's called Same Time Next Year by socact. Summary: Edward and Bella meet year after year, same place and time, escaping from their lives and the people in it. What happens as the years go by? Will something come between them, bringing their ritual to an end? I'm only a few chapters in, but I like the concept of the story a lot.

Read this too yesterday, (was in the mood for some "hurting" Bella hence this AND Twice In A Lifetime Singer all in one day!) It was pretty good until the last few chapters then it started to feel like an express train to conclusion....

Grog Shops Nope, they use to be called Off Licences (I think certain sections of society may have referred to them as The Offie) but now that you can buy booze anywhere most of them have turned into general grocery stores.

Yeah, I hate when the ending gets rushed.  Another thing that gets me  >:( is when an author starts changing around her story/plot based on the rantings of some reviewers.  I could understand if they're "prompt" fics, but other than that No, please, just write the story YOU want to write because that's what got me checking the "follow" button on your fic.   Not everyone will like the story, but at least you can be proud that you wrote the story you wanted to write.

USA here too.  Frequently going back and forth from NYC/NJ/D.C. area to L.A./Newport Beach area because I can't decide where I want to plant the roots.  I will say the west coast looks better with every winter, especially since I love the beach and my bikinis.  I have thought about the Caribbean though.  *sigh*  Maybe I could teach scuba diving lessons on some island.  *double sigh*

Looks gorgeous. Like the Bahamas, but with mountains like Puerto Rico.  I live close to the Atlantic ocean, but it is not crystal clear since the gulf coast is only a few miles offshore.

I have always wanted to go to Australia and the mini-series Thornburgs didn't help. Oops I think I am showing my age again. Lol. But I am not sure there is enough sedation medicine to get me there. That long on a plane does not make Mickey a happy camper. It would be almost a 24 hr flight. Pouts.
