USA here too.  Frequently going back and forth from NYC/NJ/D.C. area to L.A./Newport Beach area because I can't decide where I want to plant the roots.  I will say the west coast looks better with every winter, especially since I love the beach and my bikinis.  I have thought about the Caribbean though.  *sigh*  Maybe I could teach scuba diving lessons on some island.  *double sigh*

As far north as I have been is DC, well other than Jfk and Bos airports. Wwwwwwaaaaay too many people for me. I don't know how you do it, I get a serious case of needing personal space when I go. Cincy is a big city, Houston and several other big cities I have gone to, but I don't feel like a can is sardines when I go.

Everyone talking about where they're from, are there only three of us in the States?

California here!  Althought in the northern region. Whine country I call it because I am not close to LA like Ella is.  :'(

May need to take a vaca soon to SoCal and do some scouting.  >:D

Wrap You In My Arms by Emmamama88
. I don't know, I may give it another go when I'm not in such a grouchy mood, but at the moment I can't deal with it. It's flipping horrendous, if I ever see the use of ya instead of you again it'll be too soon. I can't whittle down my TBR either, even this one will probably go back to the bottom of the heap for me to try again at some later date...we shall just have to see.

My resolution revolves around my ADHD and acquiring a brain-to-mouth filter. Also to quit being such a procrastinator and get some control over my OCDness; my need for routine and likeliness to flip out when it or other patterns are broken (I can't sit at the table with everyone if we don't all sit in our correct spots). I'm just seriously weird. I do wish myself luck.
Actually, I found their talking funny...because it is a perfect rendition of how they talk in parts of Tennesee & Kentucky. So I could perfectly hear it in my head when they talked ;)

Originally from Newport Beach.  Only get there once or twice a year to meet with hs friends.  Miss the area like you would not believe.  You could always live on Catalina and give lessons.  Awesome place.  We used to sail there a lot.  I remember being on the beach in February in a swimsuit in Newport.  *triple sigh*

I love it, but my home is where I find my personal space and quiet time.  As much as I love to travel, I LOVE coming back to my home, my oh so f-ing comfy bed with a mountain of pillows, my tv and my walk-in closet and shoe closet.  The city, the people, the travel... all of that is fun and I enjoy it, but it just makes me appreciate the comfort that can only be found at home and being near family.  Hence, the problem with setting down roots (I'm still single).  I love being close to my parents and siblings and my two best friends and their kids.

LOL! I get to go to whine country for work next week - though I'll be in the Napa area ;)

I like going up there because I can go visit my parents on the weekend & work basically pays for the trip.  Although, really? It doesn't cost too much, it's more the 5.5 hours it takes to drive there.  It's actually faster to drive than fly where I live. :P  And no security lines, limits on luggage, or dealing with small seats and over-crowded planes where everyone is sick  ;)

I actually lol all the way through CaraNo Trash and Darlins. The story setting was Texas, but it could have easily been most places in the south. It's great I can laugh at my own. She is not from the USA, but to me, she nailed it.

So miss it too.  My cousin and his family just moved there last year from Michigan and are so loving the weather.  He sent me pics of his kids at the beach when we had snow here last week.  jerk!  ;D

I just got back from L.A. 2 1/2 weeks ago and while it started cooling down dramatically there with rain rain rain, it was still better than the biting cold we got here in NYC.

I would loooove to have some snow (don't hit me).

We rarely have it. It's so pretty, of course as long as I don't have to drive in it. Around here, snowplowing, salt, nope, it's called the sun. We have snow and EVERYTHING shuts down.

That's too funny.  You could always fly into the Charles Schultz airport here in Sonoma County.  Yes, our airport is named for the Peanuts creator.  Snoopy guides you in on his sopwith camel. But the airport is safe...  :D :D :D

If ever in the better wine country, let me know!  I'll buy you a drink.  ;D

I think Fanficgirl, Ella, jklly, and of course myself are all from the USA. Wait someone is close to Cincy because we talked about it. Who was that?

That would be me :)

I've been as far north as NYC....LOVED it and all the people. I could easily live in a completely urban area such as that. Crowds don't bother me at all...in fact I love the feel of the busy-ness of big cities

We still have about 6 inches on the ground here....my parents a couple hours north of me have about a foot on the ground. I don't mind the first bit of it but when it stretches on for months it gets old.

Unfortunately, it's not on the approved airports list (read as too expensive) though one of my co-workers took the airport shuttle out of there to SFO.

But I'll let you know next time I'm up there ;)

We are at 2500 feet above sea level, so it sometimes snows here - well a few times a year, but normally? It melts right away.  I had to drive home in it once over the hill at night.  It was a little scary.  I just sat in the truck in front of me's tracks.  I couldn't see any thing but it was only another 25 minutes to get home, so I didn't want to stop.

Normally though, I'm always travelling when it snows. My husband sends me pictures & is so excited because he gets a paid day off :P

..... Day off work here doesn't equal paid day off unless you take a vac day. There are no sick days, or other pto, only vacation, holidays, bereavement.

I worked jobs like that for years.  To get sick leave, you had to be sick more than 3 days with a doctors note.  And then I think it was disability and not really sick pay.

I work at home when I'm not on the road, so my boss just laughs at me if I ask for a snow day.  I'm not sure what would happen if the electric went out, but I think if it was for longer than the battery on my laptop lasts? I'd have to take leave.  Though they sometimes allow the use of sick leave instead of vacation if you have no control over it.

I just found out from another site that Ally is feeling better and is working on chapter 21 of Guardian.  I'm so happy for her and her family.  I can't even imagine the pain her family was going through the past few years.  :'(  It was months ago, but I had heard she was in a coma and now this.  What an amazing way to end the year and start a new year.  :-*

I'm also excited because hopefully chapter 21 will shed light on the arsehole Edward!!!  I still remember clicking the link to the last update and then almost pulling my hair out at the way chapter 20 ended.  >:(  I lost my appetite and couldn't even eat the brownies I had made that afternoon using Nigella's triple chocolate brownie recipe.  :(  I still remember...

OMFG ! I have wanted to start that for sooooooo long, but somehow managed the will power until it starts updating again. I think she has been out of the hospital awhile now.  So glad she is feeling better.

Everyone talking about where they're from, are there only three of us in the States?

Listening to you guys talk about the West Coast makes me feel antsy..I LOVE California! From San Francisco  down to San Diego, if I ever move to the US that is where I'd head to, my favourite spot? La Jolla...so beautiful. Last summer a couple of friends and I rented a house in LA (up in the hills, Benedict Cannon Drive) best views, best summer ever!  I think the furtherest south I've been is New Orleans..I'm one of those odd Brits that isn't shy in admitting I LOVE THE USA! And have travelled all over.

But right there is the down side, for someone who is used to living in the UK, on average we all get 21 days holiday with pay, sick pay is standard, with a doctor's note need if more than a week (I believe, never been off that long) * whispers* National Health Service...Not sure I'd be able to give it all up.  :(

11 paid holidays a year. I do get 4 weeks vacation ( the most given since I have been there 20 yrs), std starts at your 8th day of absence which is at 60% pay and it can last up to 13 weeks, then it goes into ltd. std and ltd are managed very closely by our insurance company. I have only been on std once with the birth of my second son. I was back 6 wks to the day he was born. Since I had a c-section, I had weight lifting restrictions though for awhile. Although things have changed some over the last couple of decades, I would love to have Canada's maternity policy. A YEAR ! I had 6 wks. Now you can have 12 if it goes into FMLA. But FMLA only secures your job, not that you are paid.
