Thread #5 - We are crazy talkers here! Join in the fun!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

So, after a long cold walk with lanterns and my first cups of mulled wine (St. Martin festival at the kindergarten), I just finished:

The Daily Grind by LetMeSign (in the index)

A cute, fluffy, coffee flavored B/E romance, where Bella and Edward are very normal people. But it takes them up to 70% of the story to finally (finally!) consumate their relationship and everything that goes wrong before is just too funny...  :D

Now I'm starting Resident Geek by cdunbar:

Resident Geek
By: cdunbar PM
Geeky Edward thinks he has absolutely no shot with the popular, beautiful Bella. Is he right, or will she be one of the many girls who thinks geeks make for better lovers? M for language, sexuality, and some underage drinking. A little OOC...ok, a lot OOC
Rated: Fiction M - English - Humor - Edward, Bella - Chapters: 22 - Words: 95,911 - Reviews: 5,400 - Favs: 6,125 - Follows: 5,126 - Updated: 12-13-11 - Published: 08-30-08 - Status: Complete - id: 4509651

It's one of my favorite Geekwards (and you know I just love Geekward, he reminds me soo much of my hubby...)!

What are you all reading today?  :-*

Currently I am re-reading Sovereign Fate by A Cullen Wannabe. Then I will likely re-read Virgins & Villains. I just don't feel like reading anything new at the moment. What you all? Do you ever just feel like re-reading a story rather than trying to get into a new one?

I am also working on getting the rest of my favs off of ff.net and into Calibre and organized in to the different libraries that I have set up.

Same for me atm. I like rereading stories. I know what I get and just can enjoy reading.  :)

LOL! I was going to ask if you had The Daily Grind in mobi, but then I realized I did't look in my back up drive.  I was cleaning up an old Word doc of it.  But I really need to do other things right now.  So yeah, I actually have it. *shakes head*

I just finished reading Me and Mom fall in love with Edward - You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

So Bella is different.  I do wonder if she is slightly autistic the way she is written.  Definitely OCD.

It was different.  Once I got into it, it was hard to put down.  But I don't really like her writing style that much.  It is somewhat disjointed.  And yes, maybe that is because Bella is disjointed in her thinking and it is mostly her POV.  And you are supposed to know the background, so things don't make sense a lot of the time.  It is all cleared up in the end. And there is an HEA, but not all hearts and flowers.  I don't think Counselor does hearts and flowers.

So now I need light and fluffy.....  ;D

I do this all the time.  Especially after I read something really good.  Anything new will not be as good and I will lose interest.  So I find if I reread something else that was really good, I can slowly work my way back to new stuff.  One shots are also useful to read when this happens - short enough so you don't flounce.   ;D

My copy of The Daily Grind is crap. It was an artistically beautified pdf, I think. They made a row of tiny banners (as header, I suppose). Well, that didn't do well with converting, so now there are random tiny banners once in a while, disturbing the reading flow and they blow the story up! It's a short story, but 5MB because of those pics!  >:( Oh well, I read it and liked it anyway, but if your copy is better, please send it my way!  :)

And I'm with you on "Me and mom...". I have a hard time reading her stories but I liked it.
And as i gathered from the story

I find myself re-reading a story quite often.  Is it me, or does it seem that there is very little new, interesting stories coming out?  I just finished EEK again, now I am browsing my iPad for something else…   ;D

Also, Edward has a degree in psychology, so it makes sense he would recognize some of her conditions.

And I think you are right.  Though I think she is also very smart - if you've ever seen Sheldon in the Big Bang Theory, she is somewhat like him or even Amy who is also smart, but maybe not as bad as Sheldon.  Becoming friends with Penny changes her a lot.  Like getting to know Edward helps Bella.  Just my thought.

It is in the mobi files - didn't I give you a link to those?  Under "T" because Windows sorts that way.  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

EEK?

I think there are still good stories coming, but I'm often careful of trying something new.
...I've read too many bad stories that sounded promising at first
...then there are writers that let themselves being influenced by their reviewers and change their stories (doesn't make them better)
...I really really hate the BDSMification of lemons. I have nothing against BDSM fics, some are quite good, interesting, but writers seem to think that now every lemon should be borderline violent *shudders*

So I reread, a lot. Them when I'm bored of rereading, I try a new one  ;)

I think when I'm done with my Geekward binge, I'll try something vampy or wolfy again...

:iagree:  that it does seem that there are less new and interesting stories coming out, and will many good authors leaving the fandom due to getting published, or being bullied, there is less coming in and more going out.    Especially since the twilight movies are done.

yeah, the embarrassing things are good.  I met my husband when he was moving in and I was in my ratty robe.   :D :D :D  Being a guy? He only noticed that I might be naked under it....

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.... Renee really kind of sucks as a parent.  Sounds like Bella does everything for her mom.

See? I'm the same.  I get some kinky stuff.  But sometimes they really go overboard.  Most couples try a few things like tying up or spanking.  And angry sex? Well that can be hot if it fits.  When Redtini was writing the one chapter where they had angry sex, we (her beta's) actually recommended she tone it down because it almost sounded like rape and I knew that wasn't what she wanted.

Now when Rose & Emmett have it and we find out about it secondhand? I find it funny.  ;D

But I already have more stories than I'll ever be able to read, and I have you girls. And between us all? We have all the important stores covered. So, chill! :-*

I have to update the stuff from today.  But it should be up to date as of Sunday morning PST.  But it won't work as a Calibre library - though if you have Calibre? You can probably add the stories and it should hopefully grab the metadata.

And? These guys that do the FFDL for Calibre? Are serious about getting their fanfic fix.  And are good programers.  There are a lot of them that help out too.  So I wouldn't worry too much.  FFnet will get tired of fighting it eventually.  Back in September, they talked about making it so FFnet could not block it at all, but it was questionable ethically, so they didn't do it. But they didn't sound adverse to doing it if it got to that point.  ;D

I agree about the BDSM parts of most stories, but I enjoyed the overall story so I tend to skip over most of the lemons.  I guess that is a good way of getting to the important parts of the story itself... ;)
