  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
It seems she pulled everything.  All of Honeybeemeadows completed stuff is in my Google drive.  Including a couple that are not on the FFnet site.

I'm wondering if FFnet pulled some of her stuff?

I just finished awkwardly yours and it was sooooo funny! What a refreshing insight on a teenage boy's mind when it comes to having s e x. Now i worry if my son will be like that 5 years from now. My 15 yr old daughter was asking me what's so funny every time i laugh out loud while reading this. I just said it's a very funny/sweet twific...will never mention the name lest she googles it to read it herself... ;) i sincerely hope those dystopian books she's fond of don't have too much graphic s e x... :-\ i was into Mills and Boon at her age, most were fade to black back then...

Oh god, Loopy, when i think about the story you shared about your daughter and her hung boyfriend, i don't know what i will do in that situation... :P

I am totally with you on that. If I ever post the story that I am working on, guest reviews will not be permitted. If authors are sensitive and take things to heart, then they shouldn't have the guest reviews turned on and take what is said with a grain of salt. One person's opinion shouldn't be taken so to heart.

The real problem is that FFN allows "guest" reviews but won't let you block them.  The authors have to delete them.

I have complained (what a waste of time) to FFN that they wouldn't allow an author to post without being registered on the site but they allow anyone to post whatever they want, no matter how offensive in a "guest" review.  Many of these bullying reviews technically violate FFN's precious "terms of service" with their foul language and graphic threats.  Since the reviews are anonymous FFN has left the authors with no way to respond or block the attacks while FFN turns a blind eye to the abuse.

FFN was supposed to be a safe place for authors to express themselves and share their writing....too bad they seem to have forgotten that.

I always thought they could disable anonymous reviews. Is this new from when they changed things a few months ago?

At least those jerks in that group actually posted by their names.  :P

Reunion By KeepersOfTheNaughtySparkle

I cannot remember if someone from here recommended Reunion By KeepersOfTheNaughtySparkle but if they did thank you, I did enjoy this story.

Edward, once a geek, and Bella secretly crushed on each other since high school. Can their 10 year reunion bring them together? Is one night enough to squelch a decade old passion or will it fan the flames into an unquenchable fire. Lemmony/AU/AH/B&E

I saw a really nasty review the other day - someone complained on FB that this person or persons were leaving really nasty - in this case it was comments on the characters being whores and they should all be killed or something like that - as a guest reviewer.  The writer was saying they have to see the reviews before they can delete them.  And that a lot of writers were getting these "guest" reviews.

I wouldn't allow guest reviews myself if I were a writer.  It's just an invitation for nastiness.  And even if this wasn't her best work? It doesn't mean it was bad.  That's what Fanfic is for - to practice your skills.  And some writers take every negative review to heart.  But there is no reason for a person to be nasty.  Unfortunately, there are miserable people out there whose whole purpose in life it seems is to make others as miserable as they are.  I've known people like that.  And you just have to ignore them and get them out of your life.   :P

Unfortunately virtually every fic I read these days has an A/N from the author commenting on a nasty review(s).  You have to wonder what the hell is wrong with people, what happened to if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing?

You used to be able to disable guest reviews, and it looks like they took that feature away. UN-F*UCKING-REAL! It is ok for authors to be policed, controlled, and have stories removed, but reviewers can say whatever they want?? Ya that totally makes sense (hear the sarcasm)

I think authors should start to report each and every nasty review to FFN as abuse.  Maybe if they get enough complaints about them they will put back the ability to block anonymous reviews.

Oh, right!  This is FFN we're talking about, they don't care about the authors.

  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Sometimes I can't tell if it's authors being too sensitive or if the reviews are actually nasty. I've seen reviews that are truthful but not mean. Like when they point out inconsistencies in the story. I've seen AN's complain about those. If they want to be a writer, they need to learn how to deal with it. But no review should get personal. And definitely not threatening.

Since I rarely see the actual review? I usually assume the author is rightly upset. But sometimes I have and frankly it was usuallywhat I was thinking but ddidn't want to say. ;)

You make some very good points. I think that it is likely a combination of everything. Authors are, pardon me, some authors are, overly sensitive and some reviewers are just nasty to be nasty and aren't giving constructive criticism. I still think that ff.net needs to give authors the right to refuse guest reviews but they likely turned that option off to increase the sit hits, and get more advertising money. I think that the advertising money is likely a main cause to all of the policing bullshit.

I totally agree.  Authors should be able to respond to reviewers.

And I have seen reviews where they stated they were just giving constructive criticism, but really? They never learnt how.  The best way to criticize is say something about what is good, tell them what needs to be fixed, and say something else nice.  Telling someone a list of all the things wrong with the story with no suggestions about how to fix it? Not constructive at all.

And if the whole story is crap? That's when you use the little X and never read the author again..... :D

So maybe we should start complaining to the advertisers for supporting a site that allows bullying.

That is a good idea. Not sure how effective it would be, but it is still a good idea.

Problem is I think they use Google ads or something like that.  The ads end up being something that fits to each user & they get money per click and money to have it there.  But neither the advertiser nor FFnet controls the ads. So, maybe complain to Google?

And if you never click on the ads, you are already helping.  :)

(And this is why I usually click on at least one ad a day here....)   ;D
