I have to do the same after an update  but I sometimes have to do so when it sort of gets stuck or I get an error message.
I hate restarting it though.  It is so slow loading.  I have an i7 Quad core with 16 GB of RAM.  Okay, my hard drive is only 5400 RPMs.  But it loads sssooooooooo slooooooowly.

Yeah, I know, if I had a Mac, it would load fast.  But for the price of a Mac I could buy 2 computers and only have Calibre on the second!  :D :D :D :D :D :D

I have had that error message before.  I find if I close Calibre down and then re-open it, that clears the problem.  Good luck.

I did that and I also re-booted my laptop but the error message is still there.

Did you check for a plugin update?  I usually get that when I need to update the plugin. Let me get on my computer& check. It was working last night but things change quickly. ;)

I'm sure this is not a plugin update problem. Usually when you go to Preferences > Get pluginsn to enhance calibre,  you'll see a list of plugins (including FFDL) but I couldn't even go there.  As soon as I clicked on 'Get plugins to enhance calibre', I got the 2nd error message.

I might need to un-install and re-install again Calibre because so far all the other nornal fixes did not work (i.e. close down Calibre or re-start my laptop).  Or I might have to wait until the new Calibre update and hope that installing the new update will delete all the previous errors...

I haven't had that problem before.  Do you have a PC and is it 64 bit operating system?  If you do, you can run both the 32 bit version and the 64 bit version.  I do this so I can switch when I have problems with one or the other...

And if you think it's the version you have that is causing the problem, you can get an old version on the download site, just look under the download buttons and there is a statement saying you can get older versions "here"  click on the here.  As I said, the 1.10.0 version is working fine for me.

If you uninstall and reinstall the latest version and still have problems, you might want to uninstall and install an earlier version if you still have one. I always keep a few earlier versions on my PC, just in case an update gives me issues.

I've finally figured out the issue and fixed it!  Hourrah!  (In fact, it was my husband who figured out the issue and fixed it for me!)

After trying all the suggested fixes (close Calibre, re-start my laptop, install an earlier version of Calibre, etc) without any success, I had to ask my husband for help! So this is what happened...

Yesterday, in my sleepy state, I might have inadvertently disabled the Norton security (that's what hubby told me even though I didn't remember hitting any Norton button!).  When Norton securty is disabled, the Windows firewall default kicks in and therefore blocks the Calibre FFDL.  After I re-activated the Norton security, the FFDL started working again without fail!   :) :) :)  Phew!

Thank you Caro, Matron, and Ella for trying to help me out!  You guys are wonderful!

I went to the Dr.'s the other day for my ultrasound appointment and they were able to tell us if we are having another girl or a boy. Mini will be having a little brother! Mini-mister as Astro calls him  :)
Not been on for over a week so only just caught up but a huge CONGRATULATIONS hun.  :-* :-* :-*

As I've been forced into taking bedrest for a few weeks after having a scare I've managed to read a few fics.
I read:
You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - really enjoyed it, even though it was a bit long winded (a BBQ was spread over 10 chapters - about 200 pages!!!). It was pretty light on drama and really funny in places.

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - really liked this one as well, it was well written and she wrote about FPIES - Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (my niece has this and not many people even know it exists) which is a disorder where the person is allergic to loads of different things (such as diary, soy etc) and the authors youngest son suffers from it.

I really liked it as it's rockward and it's mostly in EPOV.

I'm just starting You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - it's actorward and written by LyricalKris, what else do you need.  :P

Do take care of yourself and the baby. Hope everything is ok.  :-*

Will read Suddenly by lyricalkris right after i finish the latest chapter of drotuno for Fire and Ice  :)
Thank God she updates 2x a week or else i will go crazy! Redtini takes a bit longer to update. After i finish the 4 WIPs i'm following, i vow to never to read any again. I guess with the no. of updates drotuno has, it would be ok (plus she is an awesome writer and each chapter is great). But longer and less frequent updates than that, i tend to forget the story or what happened previously so i feel i loose some "connection" with the story/characters that i don't enjoy it as much.

Am sad to hear about Paul Walker's death. Specially when he was going to or coming from a fundraiser for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. Still young and i liked his movies. He could have brought more joy to his fans and helped those in need in the years to come. May he rest in peace.  :(

Don't worry hun, the hubby's being extra vigilant now.  :)
Everything seems to be okay now though.

I'm loving Fire & Ice and like you hun, really glad that she updates regularly.

I saw online at 4am about Paul Walker, it's awful to think of the way it happened I just hope that it was quick for him.  :'(
I really enjoyed his films, I was only Eight Below yesterday with Saxon.
I wonder what will happen to the latest F&F movie - surely they will have to write it in somehow.  :(
And just because:

#RIPPaulWalker.  :'(

I'm sure you are hun. I've found that boys are easier than girls.  :D :D

Me and bump are okay now, I just made myself quite ill last week with stress.
But all seems to be okay now, thanks to the hubby as he is not only working, but looking after me, Saxon and the animals with (very little) help from my daughter.  :)

I decided to download my own favourite list.  It took 2 hours to go through first part; the actually processing part has been going nonstop since Friday afternoon and is still only 96% done.  If anyone is thinking about downloading my "favourites" be aware it will take DAYS

It certainly has been quiet here lately. I've been wondering about you Loopy (and Astro, Demaris, Limom, etc...)

Congratulations Andiemoe!

Sorry to hear you've been sick and hope you feel better Caro, Loopy and Astro!

To get myself out of my fanfic slump, I've been reading OF and nothing really to recommend except CD Reiss' Songs of Submission series. You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login. I'm on her mailing list so I was pleasantly surprised to receive a link to an epilogue to the series (which had been marked as complete). It's so nice when authors say "thank you" in that way! Anyway, it got me off my butt to start the series, and I'm addicted. I'm on book 6 now, so I only have one more left (plus the little freebie)! I think I might take a look at your recs, Loopy, when I'm done with this and get back to fanfiction.

Hope everyone else is well!
