I started a new eating plan to loose some weight. I challenged myself to stay on this plan for the month of December and I have to say that day one is KICKING MY ASS! OMG, it is soooo hard.  What about you all, any plans to loose weight or get in shape? I had to talk to someone about this, as my family is tired of hearing about it. LOL

On that note, anyone got any good twilight fics that about B loosing weight? The only one I have read was Let's Get Physical by Lalina.
I lost about 15 lbs over the summer using a tracker app on my phone (Lose It!)  My competitive nature made me eat less than I was allowed so I was losing pretty quickly. But then I had some dental work done and had to eat soft foods for a while.  All the soft foods I know of are fattening or require butter.  Yeah, it almost all came back.  I need to start again because I was supposed to lose it for surgery.  It is so hard....  I hate being hungry.   :P

I have just one question about Calibre that has been botherring me for a long time...

How do I change the set up in Calibre so that the articles 'the', 'a', 'an' stay at the beginning of a book title?  I really like to have this set up when I add book to Calibre or export it to a new directory.

For example - The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons.

1)  When adding the book to Calibre, the title sort will become automatically like - Bronze Horseman, The
2)  When exporting the book, the title of the book is saved the same way too.

This might me a non-issue for a lot of you but it has bothered me a lot.  I know I can manually change the title individually for each book but I'd love to know if there's a quicker way to do so.

Thanks!
This is actually the proper way to sort.  Otherwise almost all your stories will fall under A or The.....

I don't actually know how to fix it.  I have more problems with them changing the author's names depending on how it downloads.  Sydney Alice might be SydneyAlice under the S's or Alice, Sydney under the A's.  I have trouble finding stuff...

With the GI Diet you eat 3 meals and 3 snacks a day so you shouldn't be hungry. Foods are divided up into 3 categories, red, yellow and green. Anything in the red you avoid 100%, and while you are trying to loose, you stick with foods in the green and once you have reached your goal you slowly integrate some yellow items.  I am also signed up on My Fitness Pal. It tracks your calories, goals and accomplishments for you. There is a free app for iphone/ipod touch and for android as well. It is free to sign up.

Thanks Ella!  I know that Calibre way is the proper way to sort but for me, somehow I do remember the name of a book better with the whole artilce in front of a title.  Weird, I know...

Comp Sem 101 was REALLY good...  and just tonight I finished Superhero in the Stacks and I liked it a lot too.  Great story, my only wish would be that it was a little bit longer, but that's just because it was a nice read. :)

To get myself out of my fanfic slump, I've been reading OF and nothing really to recommend except CD Reiss' Songs of Submission series. You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login. I'm on her mailing list so I was pleasantly surprised to receive a link to an epilogue to the series (which had been marked as complete). It's so nice when authors say "thank you" in that way! Anyway, it got me off my butt to start the series, and I'm addicted. I'm on book 6 now, so I only have one more left (plus the little freebie)! I think I might take a look at your recs, Loopy, when I'm done with this and get back to fanfiction.
Are the Songs of Submission books all cliffhangers?  I saw that book 1 is free right now on Amazon... is that the epilogue you're talking about?   And I saw these compared to 50SoG and the Crossfire series.  Do you think they're as good?

I read the series and enjoyed it.  But yes, you have to read the whole series to get the story...so annoying.  At least they're all available now.  I read it as a WIP...I can't believe I'm saying that about something that isn't fanfiction!

I decided to download my own favourite list.  It took 2 hours to go through first part; the actually processing part has been going nonstop since Friday afternoon and is still only 96% done.  If anyone is thinking about downloading my "favourites" be aware it will take DAYS

OK after nearly 4 days the whole thing crashed and nothing got downloaded.  Remind me never to try that again.  :-[ :-[

LOL! I feel for you. I actually found the best way is to let Calibre get the links for you then copy them to a notepad. Then do a couple hundred at a time.

I think the only reason I didn't have a problem with RDMickey's is because the actual download was only about 250 stories. The rest I already had. ;)

Tricklem, why do you punish yourself with dieting during the holida season?

Holiday Eating Tips - For The Sane

I hate aspects of this time of year. Not for its crass commercialism and forced frivolity, but because it's the season when the food police come out with their wagging fingers and annual tips on how to get through the holidays without gaining 10 pounds.

1. About those carrot sticks. Avoid them. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table knows nothing of the Christmas spirit. In fact, if you see carrots, leave immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum balls.

2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. Like fine single-malt scotch, it's rare. In fact, it's even rarer than single-malt scotch. You can't find it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares that it has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to turn into an eggnogaholic or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it. Have one for me. Have two. It's later than you think. It's Christmas!

3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of gravy. Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out of your mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.

4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a sports car with an automatic transmission.

5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control your eating. The whole point of going to a Christmas party is to eat other people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello? Remember college?

6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog.

7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of attention. They're like a beautiful pair of shoes. You can't leave them behind. You're not going to see them again.

8. Same for pies. Apple. Pumpkin. Mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or, if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always have three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day?

9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some standards, mate.

10. And one final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention. Reread tips. Start over. But hurry! Cookieless January is just around the corner.

Yes, it will certainly be a challenge for me. I find that I am always tired, even after getting 8 hours of sleep. I take vitamin b100 since I heard that it is supposed to help with energy, but it really hasn't had much effect on me. I am hoping that the change in my eating habits will be the remedy and that as my weight goes down the energy goes up. At least I hope so. Not to mention that if I can pull off doing this during Christmas, then the other holiday seasons should be easier.

The first 3 books are one sequence and the next 4 are the final sequence. There's also a related series that adds a little extra but isn't necessary to read that is called the Songs of Dominance. The freebie I was talking about is actually book 4 of SoD (or SoS 7.5)--just an extra she sent out to her fans. So, if Amazon is giving away book one, you'd only have to get books 2&3 to feel a complete story--though I'd check the price on the sequence one omnibus (for books 1-3) which might be cheaper. I'm still waiting for the Crossfire series to complete before reading it so I can't compare the two, but I could see how one might link to 50SoG because it's erotica although the plot is quite different and the struggle for the heroine is more about staying faithful to her own ambition/goals/self and not getting lost in the romance. (As SoS is mostly her POV, SoD adds to it with his). I really liked the series and would recommend it. Actually, I just checked and depending on where you live, you can get the omnibus for 99cents on Amazon right now.

I'm right there with you! I don't touch "series" anymore without knowing when the final book is coming out. There are so many that are really "parts" and not books, which I think of as stand alones. But it seems that the ebook publishing world has completely changed that. Now there are serials and sequences, which gets confusing. I had so much trouble figuring this out with Beth Kery's Because You Are Mine series because I didn't know that the first 8 "books" released were actually serials of book 1. The same with book 2 of that series. Thankfully book 3 was released as one unit (and book 4 will release as one unit next May). I've been itching to try HM Ward's Arrangement series, but have no idea when it's going to complete. I don't have the patience to wait around for installments--just like I have trouble trying to read WIPs. I only have one and even that bugs me. The only thing I like about reading a WIP is how it balances out lemons as a whole--much easier to digest.

Whew! Gets off soap box...
