ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

It certainly has been quiet here lately. I've been wondering about you Loopy (and Astro, Demaris, Limom, etc...)

Aww thanks Lame      :-* :-*  I have only had the time to lurk lately.  Work has been crazy, and school with the kids is nuts.  This damn common Core curriculum is really becoming more of a P.I.T.A then anything else.  My poor daughter who is in 3rd grade not only is dealing with a being bullied but now is upset with herself because she has gone from being straight A to hating school so much because she is having such a hard time doing the algebraic math they are teaching, and can't get higher than a 75 on tests.

Missed you all hope to be back in full soon

Algebra in the 3rd grade? That is crazy.  I think we did our times tables in 3rd grade.  Algebra didn't hit until 6th grade at the earliest.  And when I got to high school? The algebra there was just a repeat of what I already learned.

She may want to take some music classes.  If I remember correctly, music is supposed to help with math.

Yeah it is crazy,  to get the same answer for 8x5=40 they have to break it down into an algebraic equation.  nuts I tell ya.  She loves music, not a bad idea.

Don't even get me started on my son's 6th grade math, I did not do that stuff till 12th grade.  And to boot in both grades not only do they have to do the math work but write out a written explanation on the answer.

Missed you too! Good to hear from you! I had no idea they were starting algebra in primary school. I think I started that in junior high. Maybe they're pushing too early? I hope she starts feeling better and more confident soon.

Music is a great idea! It is supposed to help with math and helps build confidence (and depending on the situation helps with social skills too). They had a music improv high school class that ed grad students would work with at my old job. I interviewed one of the HS students and he glowed about how many extra benefits he got out of the program.

While I do agree that 3rd grade might be a little early for mandatory algebra for all, being able to explain what they have done makes sure they understand the process and not just how to solve a problem.  I lived in Paraguay and was trying to help my host brother with his math and he was only taught how to solve one problem, not the method to understand what he was doing, and could only solve that one problem.  But there is an age and way to teach math that makes the difference, and not every child understands math the same way, unfortunately not all elementary teachers understand the different ways that children see math (Not a math teacher, just have a friend in elementary math education at a University)

I'm well forgiven for puking on him and forgetting our anniversary so he's all good (on certain things) until Christmas at least.  ;) :D :D

Your hubs really loves you and am sure he understands, specially with you feeling a bit under the weather recently. I find husbands will bend over backwards for their pregnant wives...if only they can continue to do that beyond pregnancy. We all can dream, right?   ;D :P

I've no idea how the hubby remembers dates to everyone's birthdays etc but he does and there's me who can barely remember my own kids birthdays half the time.  :D

My trick is to put everything on my phone calendar, marking bdays and annivs as "yearly occurence" so it makes an alarm on that date at 9am every year. My phone is open 24x7 bec of work and it also serves as my alarm clock so it is beside my pillow or always at hand.  ;)

I'm right there with you! I don't touch "series" anymore without knowing when the final book is coming out. There are so many that are really "parts" and not books, which I think of as stand alones. But it seems that the ebook publishing world has completely changed that. Now there are serials and sequences, which gets confusing. I had so much trouble figuring this out with Beth Kery's Because You Are Mine series because I didn't know that the first 8 "books" released were actually serials of book 1. The same with book 2 of that series. Thankfully book 3 was released as one unit (and book 4 will release as one unit next May). I've been itching to try HM Ward's Arrangement series, but have no idea when it's going to complete. I don't have the patience to wait around for installments--just like I have trouble trying to read WIPs. I only have one and even that bugs me. The only thing I like about reading a WIP is how it balances out lemons as a whole--much easier to digest.

Whew! Gets off soap box...

They are charging for serials that are not guaranteed to complete? Yeah, I don't think so. Bad enough to be stuck with an incomplete fanfic that at least I didn't pay for.  >:(

And at $2 to $3 a pop, you'll end up paying more than you would for a full book. This practice is really annoying me. I'm good if each story can stand on its own. In which case it's a collection of short stories with the same theme.  :P

okay stepping off soapbox now   ;)

Completely agree with you! I don't read it if not all parts of the series are out.
Totally hate they chop up these books just to earn more from it.  >:(

You did see the tags at the bottom for this thread right? We love your stories here!

Now if only Astro would come back.  I'm a little worried about her.  She sounded a little depressed last time she was here.

I understand the busy.  I miss all you when you disappear, but I get the busy.   ;D
Lol, I do feel like it's my duty to share stories with you all as I know you all want to know about it.  :P :D

I feel so sorry for Astro, I wouldn't want her job for all the money in the world.

Thank goodness.  I don't really do BDSM, though I kept trying to read Sub Plans by SnowWhiteHeart.  How can you go wrong with a dominant Bella and a sub Vampward?

"Yes! Hit me harder, harder" "Damn Edward that hurts me!"   :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

How can you go wrong?  :-[ ::) :confounded: :021: :040:
It's a good thing you don't live me then - when me and the hubby used chains once and forgot to close the bedroom windows, our elderly neighbour came around the next day to say that she had heard the "ghost" again!!  :o :-\ :D

Aww hun, it sounds like you're run off your feet at the moment.
What!?! Algebra in the 3rd grade that's just crazy.
I get that it's a subject that is taught to everyone at some point in the school life but in the 3rd grade - seriously!?!
I didn't start algebra until I was in the 7th grade and I don't remember a god damn thing about it. I look at my daughters homework and it's all gobble-dee-gook to me.  :D
But that could be because I was having more fun with boys then learning at the time.

I can't complain about the hubby he does pretty much everything whether I'm pregnant or not, so I'm pretty lucky that way and it helps that the hubby doesn't think anyone but him can do the cleaning/cooking etc properly anyway.  :D
I do use my phone calendar and as it's a windows 8 phone it syncs to the laptop but I never remember to look at the stupid thing.  ^-^

Given that it was a recommendation that I found in an angst loving group, I'd say maybe take a pass?

Yes, this is frustrating and I kind of think of it as a betrayal of the customers.
Selling a book chapterwise, perhaps even giving the first chapter for free, so you get hooked and have to buy the next chapters - so not good. Really p***es me off  >:( >:( >:(

She is still being bullied?  >:( That is one of the worst things that can happen to a child! Did you read that our bully problem got solved? My son's bully doesn't bother him anymore at the moment.

I so hope you get it solved soon too!  :-* :-* :-*

I'm glad that the child who was bullying your son is leaving him alone - hopefully it will stay that way permanently.

The child who was tormenting my daughter has been removed from the school.  The difference it has made to her confidence is astounding.

I hope the problem gets sorted soon limomx2 and that your daughter feels happier about algebra and school in general.

I have to say the self-defence training we sent him to during fall vacation made a huge difference for him. Knowing how to deflect hits, how to defend yourself and how to act properly when you're bullied helped him a lot to build up confidence.

I just wish something like that was mandators at every school...

:D :D :D What is that about?! It doesn't matter if my cat is asleep in the other end of the apartment when I head to the bathroom, but by the time I sit, she is attempting a figure 8 at my feet. Somehow sit time becomes pet me time. :D

Did happen?  More like still happens if they want my attention!

The lock on the bathroom door is far from child-proof and this is a regular occurrence in my house, as well as cold water  being thrown at me whilst I am in the shower!   ???

I have tried to tell them that they should not open the door to no avail.  I think I need to invest in a padlock!

My daughter likes to bring me toys, when I wasn't feeling well one day, I ended up with a pile of balls at my feet.  Of course she is still young enough that I leave the door open so I can keep an eye on her.
