I have heard about the Black Friday sales wish I could afford to go down to the US and take advantage.....

As for the extra piece of pie, just do some extra exercise to compensate, then you will be golden and won't have to worry about guilt....

As someone who  braved three different stores tonight- IT'S NOT WORTH IT!

They don't have the things they promise, and it's so crowded you can't get through the aisles, everything's a mess. Ever see those hows with the bridal warehouses that have the huge one day a year sale? Or that episode of Friends where Monica got her wedding dress? It was like that! >:(

It's always like that. Fight crowds for a split second to get that one item, then stand in line for an hour. It tests every bit of the patience I could ever garner. And I will do it all again in a few hours. *shakes head*

Sorry you're having trouble with my favorites.

Just remember, all that 'stuff' on sale?  We don't really need any of it.  Of course, most of us don't need that extra piece of pie, either...except the pregnant ladies in our group.

Hope everyone celebrating Thanksgiving had a great day.  Don't get hurt in the sales.
But, but, but, but, I need it AAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!!!! Everything that is on sale!
 :sign0103:

LOL! Part of it was I usually ignore the sales since standing in line for 8 hours just to be told they are sold out? Not my idea of fun.  But Walmart had a one hour guarantee - if you are there in line within an hour of the start of the sale, you either get a wristband to buy the item or a raincheck type thing.  I really wanted to check it out and see if I would actually get the item....

What can I say? I was curious....  :NeenerNeener:

I know. We were first in line for that and decided, we have Ipad 2's, why do we need a mini. I NEVER use my kindle anymore. We did head out shopping after supper since most places opened at 8pm. We hit Best Buy, Target, Walmart and while standing in the lines to checkout, I ordered from Kohls and also from Best Buy via my phone.  Got home around 11. Will read a few minutes and then hit more stores tomorrow. I swear the older I get, the more I hate crowds. But it's like tradition. We have done it every year of our marriage.
My husband refused to go with me. So I hit a couple online sales instead, got frozen out and gave up.

Fortuanately, my ADD was in full force today & I couldn't concentrate long enough to wait for the websites to work... And really? The stuff I actually want? wasn't on sale.  Or at the same sale price they always have it at.  But it used to be fun to do the sales when I was younger.  And since I mostly buy gift cards now? It's not worth the crowds.   :P

My husband always goes with me, even to the mall. Ain't he sweet? But I usually follow him to places he wants to go as well.

Only because we were first in line, Walmart had 5 of them. The rain check, you still had to pay for it and they guaranteed you would have it by Xmas. I'm sure there were many that were glad we stepped out of line 2 hrs to go.

Really? I was kind of interested in  one of the TV's, but I really didn't want to deal with taking it home in the crowd, so I was hoping I'd get the buy it now, pick it up later thing anyway.  But then I remembered being told most of the electronics they have on sale are really pieces of junk & not the same quality as the stuff at full price. I figured the mini was the old model as they are advertising the new one with the retina display.

Good to know I could have got one....

Does anyone here have a last gen Kindle Fire? Is this a good deal, for a gift for a 10 year old?

crap for some reason it went to the front page of the ad, but it's the Kindle Fire 7, listed at $79. Or might the Acer Iconia, for 99, be the better deal? I worry about the Fire being to restrictive, since you can't get the google store on it.

My sister and her husband have gone out the past few years. Me and her have been going every year since I go my drivers liscense. But the past few years I have worked so I didn't have time to go. The husband went last year on thanksgiving night to walmart it was interesting listening to his stories  :D I think I'll try going to old navy sometime tomorrow (Friday) and where ever else my sister can talk me into hahaha

My issues with the Kindle Fire are more that there isn't a lot of room on it if you want to download movies or things like that.  Because they don't allow the use of microSD cards - similar to iPads - you are stuck with the memory it comes with.  I had an early iPhone with 8 GBs of memory & I filled it up fast.  I upgraded to a 16 GB phone and filled that up.  So that is why I have an Android.

And if all they are going to do is surf the Internet at home and watch online movies? Its fine.  And maybe you want to limit what you give a 10 year old anyway.....

The Kindle app store has a Free App of the Day - a lot of these are decent for kids.  So the Google Play store is not that big of a deal.  I also like the app review on Amazon. They tend to point out the good and bad about most apps.

I have to say, I don't own one, just my Kindle reader.  And I have a Kindle app on my Android tablet. People I know with the Kindle Fire love it.   ;D

I have a Nexus, which I love, but have no experience with the Fire. I wish I could find a Nexus as cheap. I wish I could find the new one cheap, and I'd just give her my old one, lol!

I had a very hard time not going to the After Thanksgiving sales that started on Thanksgiving.  A couple places were selling the iPad mini for $299 with a $100 gift card back.  So $199.  I don't need an iPad mini.  I probably would not use it. I never use my iPad micro (my old iPhone)  I hardly use my Android tablet.  Though it's great for magazines..... But I just feel this need to go buy things.  Sigh.

I ate another piece of pie instead.   :D :D :D :D :D

It is times like this where I am glad I live overseas, therefore I don't even have the temptation to go out.  Although looking at some of the online sales, it would be nice if we had those available overseas.

Am not familiar with a kindle so i can't comment on it. However, my daughter's school required them to buy the acer iconia for their first year in HS. They were the first batch to use it as all their school books were now ebooks. She can't help compare it to her ipad so the iconia to her is a disappointment and uses it solely for school. The fact that their school required the incoming freshmen this year to get the samsung galaxy tab says a lot on the performance of iconia.

Maybe if the 10 yr old hasnt tried other tablets, then the iconia would be ok as it does do a lot of things like the ipad, except it's slower. We have always been happy with our ipads so if that is even a choice, i will always get an ipad...my husband, who's not techy and anti ipad before absolutely loves his ipad mini now...very user friendly considering how techtard my hubby is...

Hi ladies! Sorry, for being so absent all the time. RL is really kicking my a..., but I'm hoping for more time from Monday on.
So, I just have a quick question. Someone mentioned downloading all the stories of one author from ff.net via Calibre/FFDL. How do I do this? I just tried Troublefollows stories and wanted to grab all at once, but Calibre said the URL is not valid. I took the URL from Troublefollow's ff.net page. You are not allowed to view links. Forget it, I just answered my own question...hehehe....what a black-out! I had too few time for Calibre too due to RL.
But another question: Ellachanted, you mentioned grabbing Ficfangirl's favorites from ff.net. May I ask for her pen-name there? Or RDMickey's?

You'll find me under Ficfangirl and RDM is RDMickey1989 on ffn.

Just a warning to anyone getting my faves.  They're mostly incomplete stories that I'm keeping my eye on.  Most of the completed ones I remove - except for a few super-faves (and most of those have been removed from ffn).

My 7 yd niece loves the kindle fire HD.  She uses it to play those “free” games and read her books.  My 40+ hubs also loves his Fire and is rarely away from it.

Next time I try to pull them, I will do it in my WIP library. Then, it will probably be a smaller number of stories to download. ;)
