ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

I really liked this sweet story. The author has deleted all her stories from FFN and is now publishing OF.

Compass by SparklingWand

Summary: Eleven years has passed since Dr. Isabella Swan last spoke with her childhood chum, first officer Edward Cullen. One flight to her new home changes that. I thought this high school fic was okay. Actually, the fic was pretty good, but the epilogue (which was a third of the fic length) went on so long that I lost much of my interest in the story. If you skip the epi, it was a good fic if you like HS fics. I think the author P2P.

Cliché by suzie55
Genre: Drama, Romance
Status: Completed
Chapters: 47
Words: 155,866
Summary: In a place far, far away lived a beautiful…oh, forget it. Who are we really kidding here? This is H-E-Double Hockey Sticks. This is high school. Welcome to Forks. Bella X Edward AH - some humor though that's subjective.

I always love your recs! Thank you for reading and pointing them out to us.

I've found a fic way back in the archives on ff.net from 2011 that I'm currently trying to get through before I move along to something new, outside of Bella and Edward. Everytime I find something interesting that I think about recommending, I only seem to make it halfway through the story before I lose interest and end up flouncing  :( One day I'll have something to add, hopefully..

OMG OMG! I know many of you are not fans but i love Christian Grey! Regardless of the casting and the brouhaha over the author's attitude, am definitely eagerly awaiting this movie. I want to see how they bring the characters to life (and the s e x  scenes  ;) ). Really liked their love story!!

I feel the same.  It seems odd not to be able to leave a review or a comment actually, I find it really disconcerting.  Shows you how much FF I read.  :D

Soooo, Edward's Eternal just started a new Actorward fic where Edward is an adorkable Brit. So cute. I'm in love already. Bella is his housekeeper and friend. She was (is still?) married to James who ran off with everything. So she went to work for Edward.

Edward is written how you might picture Rob to be like. For you WIP-phobes, EE is usually good with updates  ;)

I am definitely a WIP phobe. I have been burnt so many times. It is frustrating to get half way through a story that is a WIP and then the author says, oh, this is going on hiatus or takes months to post updates. I am just not patient enough to deal with WIP's.

Love, love, love the Outlander series.  I think the author has a facebook page or a website you can leave comments on if you really feel the need.

Has anyone check this one lately? I am waiting for it to be completed to grab it, but it has over one million world count. I mean seriously, it must break the record for longest twific! Has anyone read the first part, Summer Vacation?

I am the same way. In fact I was just talking about this on FB about how I'm get so disappointed when I am following a WIP of an author that ends up starting to publish their original fiction as well and then just abandons their fan fiction stories. You'd think after writing 60+ chapters (just one example of one I'm waiting for it to finish before I read it) that they would continue on with it, otherwise it just became a waste.

Currently I have 976 "in-progress" fan fiction stories in my Calibre library. And honestly I'd say that about 75% seem to be abandoned.  Breaks my heart. And had turned me into a WIP phobe as well.

GossipLips is planning to publish The Celestial Way. The author's new FF account name is Anna Crosswell.

This is from the FF account:

The Celestial Way

Hey folks. I have taken this story down. As most know, I have not updated in over six months, and that's because I really wanted to write this story...but it didn't feel right as a twilight fanfic. So I struggled with this decision, but I've decided to rework the 28K words I have already and completely revamp it, and then move forward, writing the rest and self-publishing it.

I really hope she does publish it. I would love to read it!

Mostly I am as well.  My biggest problem? I forget I was reading them.  They update the next month & I think "Oh this looks good - wait, why it this so familiar??"   :D :D :D :D :D :D

But I love Actorward and there are many I haven't read that are complete.  So I'm stuck with WIPs.  I usually stick with the ones that update once or twice a week and are proven writers with mostly completed fics.  Or in Redtini's case, I beta.  So I have her email to yell LOL!

Before starting a WIP? I always look to see what else they have written.  If they have a whole bunch of incompleted stories? Yeah, I don't go there.

I think there are 7K+ in my WIP library for Calibre.  Granted some are totally gone.  As in already pulled.  But I haven't figured out how to mark them so I can quit trying to update them.  And I do pull the same stories from multiple sites, sometimes because one will update where the others won't - it may be abandoned on Twilighted or ffnet but still be good on TWCS or FictionPad. But every week or two when I check for updates a bunch will complete.  I also wonder how many are complete but aren't marked or are outtakes for another story.  I'm hoping when I finish the classes I'm taking this year, I will have more time to sit and go through these things.

Then again, knowing me? I'll find something else to do that takes too much time LOL!  :P

What I have noticed is that when a fic has completed the completed column does not change. It's annoying as I have to either change it manually or delete and reload.

I've noticed that before too, that the "in-progress" doesn't change to "complete" when you've only been updating them as you go, rather than download it when it is actually complete. I tend to check out each update I do now since some authors have been so kind (insert sarcasm) to write an A/N for an update and then go and delete their story shortly afterwards, I'm in fear that one day I'll update one of those and it'll take out what I had saved. So each email update I get I go in and check the link and make sure the story is all good, then I update it in Calibre. And while I was checking the link and story I look to see if it had completed... if it had then I manually mark it then as completed too.

For stories I know have been pulled, in the tags section of Calibre I just remove the "in-progress" tag and put in "pulled" or "abandoned" etc so that when I pull up my "in-progress" list they no longer show there.

I too have the same problem (or used to) of starting a WIP only to forget I was reading it and find it later on thinking, wow, that looks really familiar.  LOL

Sad isn't it that we have to worry that an "update" isn't really an update.  :'(. At least some authors warn before they pull.

I periodically go through my favorites on FFN to make sure the story is actually still there and not just a chapter or an AN left so the author doesn't lose their reviews.  I personally lose respect for author's who do that, if you have a good reason to pull, pull it all.  It is disrespectful to all of us who took the time to read, review and favorite (and recommend) to keep the reviews to stroke their egos.  I heard there is away they can download them, I think they should do that or leave the Fic.....I UNFAVORITE these stories and authors.

Sorry for the rant, until authors started doing that, I didn't download stories...thank goodness for this site.

you need to set the column to "Update always" or it won't change. ;)

Also set it to update only if new chapter. Then it only adds the new stuff. So if they remove everything? I get an error message saying current version has xx chapters and new version has 1 chapter. It tells me to change the settings if I want to download it. Since I don't? Settings stay the same.

I only see one place where I can choose "Update Always" OR "Update Epub if New Chapters". I don't see where I can have both of them selected. Am I looking in the wrong spot?

In the custom columns tab, that's where you uncheck update if new only for that column. I also have it unchecked for things like last update date. Columns you want the info to change on.

Otherwise, you want the option on the first tab checked as update only if new chapters. It in the ffdl config section. Let me know if this doesn't make sense. I'll get on the computer & do screen shots. ;)
