Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

and thank you for your input as an author. I always want to know everything about what people are thinking when they're writing.  ^-^

You're welcome, before I started writing I must admit, I heard writers saying, " the character won't stop talking to me" and I was a bit like yeah, yeah, whatever. But it's true, I was writing a story one time and the character just lead me in a totally different direction than I was planning on when I started the chapter and it stumped me, I had to email my beta to ask if she had any ideas for how I could get him back from the point I ended up in.  :D

Must admit, I tend not to start posting a story until it is fully written, that way I hope the storyline will be tighter and not ramble,( I have 5 full length fics in various stages of completion at the moment), also it means I'm not under any pressure if I get blocked, and my readers will get nice regular updates too.

I made the first mistake with my first attempt at a fic and it blew up in my face.  I fully intend to go back and rewrite the story the way it was intended to be written.  I also have another story I'm developing that i fully intend to prewrite before posting, though I'm not sure how i want to manage that, as I do plan to write a sequel of sorts.
One of the rare few....

I find I work on whichever Edward is "speaking" to me at the time, that way I don't ever feel like I'm forcing anything.

OK, the father/son story sounds creepy...

But I really like poly stories. The Trip home is a very good story and there are several others that are pretty good.

And I actually know a poly family and it works for them. A married couple, she has a boyfriend and he has a (married) girlfriend. There is a lot of love in that family.
We had some friends who were swingers. Only problem? After a while he had no problems finding girls but she wasn't getting any. The ended up quitting because she was unhappy. Granted, maybe if they lived in a big city, it would have worked. But eventually someone ends up unhappy. Just look at the sister wives tv show. I've only watched a bit of it, but the women are not really happy about having to share their husband. They do because if they want him this is how it is.

In the long run, it rarely works. There are too many people in the relationship. But that is my opinion. There are probably a few people that could make it work. ;)

I am in no way anti anything that works for people but incest is just a big no no. shudders.

In my case, that's easy, because the second story is shouting at me, although not in chronological order.

Ah, don't let that bother you, I've got my current story in two parts. I've written the first 11 chapters in order, and a then another section of four consecutive chapters written from later on in the tale and I'm now about two or three chapters away from joining the two parts together. I wrote a novel last year and at one point I had that in three pieces. The worse thing is you don't know what to call those later chapters, so I have them named as Edward's release, after the release, the meet up chapter, etc. I'll have to give them chapter numbers when I finally join it all up.

Polaroid

A glimpse, a snapshot, a frame, an image...this is how they come. Some a blur, some crystal clear; like a Polaroid. She told me not to interfere, to live life, and love my family. And I do...most of the time.

I loved that. Different, but I really loved them.

Oh, thank you Anchalee for the rec on Polaroid by RockRaven244. I thought it was sweet. Lots of literary realism and just enough drama to keep me interested.

ok ladies.  I have a caliber question.  How come it is showing up complete in the completed/in progress column but the chapters are not all there.  I think this was previously asked but can't find it.

Also how do I send books to my ipad mini with caliber?

Thank you  Miss you all  :-*  Hope to be back real soon.  Had a flood from a busted pipe when we had the sub zero temps so trying to get everything back in order from that.

I can relate on the pipe breaking. It is a total mess and a lot of work. I also remember regretting letting my husband toss my rain boots. My feet were so cold cleaning up water.

So are you saying the chapters aren't there or the data is not there? If it's the actual chapters? You will probably need to download it again. Otherwise make sure in the ffdl setup that chapters update always and not just when new.  ;)

Are there any amazing Alice/Jasper AH stories that I should be made aware of? I guess it's time for me to broaden my horizons and take a break from Edward and Bella. I feel like I need to fill out an online dating questionnaire with all of my preferred reading quirks  :(

I like Bella and Jasper, but only if it comes with the warning of NO Edward or Alice in the story. I can't handle love triangles. Choosing between an emo old vampire and a teenage werewolf was enough for me. Plus it annoys me that almost every love triangle situation I've read has someone written as the stereotype for a boyfriend or girlfriend that one dates out of boredom and loneliness and it never seems to take into account how it affects each party.

There are plenty of Jasper/Alice stories, but AH is a bit more difficult.  You could try Lost in Orbit by Frozen Soldier - You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
Or Yellow Rose by idealskeptic -  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - Set during the American Civil War
I wouldn't describe either as an amazing story but both a decent reads.  Yellow Rose is only 10 chapters.

I'd like to consider myself open minded, but incest is a big no for me as well.  Given that it seems that there seems to be some sort of manipulative element in the parental figure, in many of the cases I can't see how people can stomach it.  The exception would be some sort of twisted fantasy

LINK loss4words - In The Deepest Space
« Reply #3855 on: January 24, 2014, 07:08 AM »
Looking for something out there…like WAY out there. Like the Cullens are aliens and Bella is an astronaut that gets lost in space. No tails ;) It's a quick read and completely different than anything else I've been reading. The only negative was the epilogue which I could have done without. Was originally P2P, but I guess that didn't work out and has been reposted to FFN.  I'm posting that link and a PTS link to the original PDF.

In The Deepest Space by loss4words
What will happen to the astronaut, Bella Swan, when she is unable to make it back to her ship on Mars and close to death? Who will come to her rescue and what will she learn about what else is "out there?" Rated Mature for language and lemons.

I remember In The Deepest Space when it was on Twilighted.   I started reading it but it was a little too out there and I stopped - which is not to say it wasn't good.  There was just other fics that I wanted to read more.

Question about the stories you're missing chapters on, were you downloading them while they were WIPS?  If you were... by chance, did you convert them before they were marked completed?  I only ask this because I use Calibre and the FFDL plug in. I have a LOT of WIPS I keep track of (I don't read WIPS anymore) and update as I get the alerts. I made the mistake of converting some WIPS from ePub to Mobi before they were completed, thinking that when I updated them in the Calibre library it would update both the ePub and the Mobi, it doesn't.  So then once I realized this, I had to go back and re-convert each one once they were completed.  Now all the chapters show up.

I hope that makes sense and that it might help.  Long story short, if you converted to PDF or Mobi before they were marked complete... those will be missing chapters.  Just select the file and push the convert button and it will update it that way and all your chapters should show up then.

Don't convert them until they are marked finished by the author. Once they are complete... then convert them to whatever format you use (I use Mobi as I have a Kindle).

If you convert them before all the chapters are posted then the converted version will only have what was posted at the time of conversion. So... don't convert until it is is complete.

IF you already converted it and since then more chapters have posted and now it is a completed fic/story, then convert again to whatever file you use. It will replace your old converted missing chapter version with the new one when you do that.
