Thread #5 - We are crazy talkers here! Join in the fun!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

R-r-r-read a real book? :o :o ??? :P

*wildly shakes head in disbelief*  But I have over 20,000 stories in my fanfic library!!!

Okay, I will never read half of them because I don't do noncanon at this point.  :D :D :D

Just hate it when i can't find anything interesting to read! Nothing's grabbing my interest!! Arrrggghhhhh  :undecided:

I must admit there is little in the twi world holding my attention at the moment apart from non canon stuff  ;)   Having the HP fandom to fall back on is so wonderful.    :)

I read books too but I only want light reading at the moment.  ;D

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but Redtini has written that "How To Date a Movie Star and How To Marry a Movie Star will be pulled on all sites by February 14th."

Because of the blizzard I was wearing layers and a long wool coat. Add my layers of personal insulation and my butt was well cushioned. I landed only a little weird on my arm. I think I twisted it or something as it hurts to extend it, but I can move all my fingers fine.

I did not hit my head at all, so I'm not sure why I fainted. It's a little weird. Maybe it was the pain?

My roommate just got home, so maybe I'll tell him, but we aren't getting along right now, so I'm debating. Maybe I'll ask him to make sure I'm up in the morning. Then, I'll see how I'm doing.

I'm sure I'll be fine. Thanks for the well wishes!

Lamelurker please, please take care of your self, and like ficfangirl said check in regularly to see how are you doing we worry for you Hun!  :-*

Well it's been one of those months. I see I'm not the only one who has problems finding something to read, nothing catches my attention, maybe if should try a few one shots to see if I get back in the mood, can anyone recommend a few good ones?  Thanks in advance  :-*

Hi everyone! So I took your advice and went to the hospital. The pain in my arm had increased and my range of motion got pretty limited. It turns out that I fractured the bone near the elbow. Nothing in my blood work showed why I fainted, but I have a follow up in two weeks, so I'll let you all know if anything turns up. Thank you all for your concern; it really means a lot to me. I feel much better now that I have some pain meds and my arm is stabilized.  :-*

I am so sorry that that has happened to you but I am thankful you sought help.  I hope it didn't cost you too much.  Life can be rather tough when you have a tight budget.   :-*

It's good that you got yourself checked out, really sucks that you fracture a bone, some people say that it hurts a hell of a lot more then when you brake it. And now to get better, take care of yourself!  :-*

Someone was asking about good fics, I cannot recommend MinaBR enough but be warned she is not light and fluffy.  I particularly liked her The Return of Saturn Series.

I keep making the mistake of reading things right before I'm about to pass out in bed, and it seems cool or okay when I'm reading it at the time, but then when I go back after I'm well rested and coherent I just can't help but wonder why I thought it was worth reading. I have a huge list of links to stories I've read and enjoyed, but lately, I'll read a chapter or two before I flounce  :confounded:

On a second note, I am the biggest baby when it comes to angst. I've been burned so many times in the Romance/Angst tag that I have to skip to the last chapter to see if all the angst in the middle is worth moving forward with. It usually is, but sometimes it's not. I don't write at all so I wonder what authors are thinking when they're writing. Lots of times the angst is dragged out to the point where I wonder why I bother reading, and other times there's just a dash of angst thrown in for added dramatic measure which seems so pointless but I guess it's boring to write about sunshine and rainbows. Edward is always a brooding manwhore, Bella is normally insecure and quick to forgive all indiscretions  /end rant

I can't find anything to read either. BTW, thank you to everyone that recced Holding On and Letting Go! I loved it.

I can't speak for other authors, but I'm writing a fic at the moment where 18year old Edward lands himself in prison for a serious assault and I need to show the things that have happened to him while he's there that have shaped him and made him emotionally closed off for when he finally meets Bella. I originally expected it to take about 2/3 chapters, but he is demanding I tell his story properly, so it's going to be about ten chapters worth instead. I guess that's what happens to other writers too.

Personally I find I can handle reading angst if the story is entertaining enough to hold me, when I start skimming I know it's only time before I bail, but what I hate is reading an angsty story and being satisfied when they finally overcome it,  only to be hit with a further 10/20 chapters of fluff and lemons with no real plot. So many stories I've enjoyed and then flounced when it all turns to mushy drivel. I think once the plot is concluded the story needs wrapping up in a timely way, don't know if you guys agree or not?

Yes! I'm always trying to pinpoint the five parts to a story when I'm reading, but with fanfiction it doesn't seem to work that way. Many authors have a plot bunny and post as the thoughts come to them. That's why I'm lame and always skipping to the last chapter or the epilogue to see if the characters learned anything.

The last angst heavy fic I read and enjoyed was The University of Edward Masen. I finally got around to reading it last month after having it lumped in with all the bdsm fics that were popular when Master of the Universe was at its peak on ff.net. It was so long, and a very exhausting read, but I was glad to have finally found a mature fic that was well written with interesting characters.

and thank you for your input as an author. I always want to know everything about what people are thinking when they're writing.  ^-^

You're welcome, before I started writing I must admit, I heard writers saying, " the character won't stop talking to me" and I was a bit like yeah, yeah, whatever. But it's true, I was writing a story one time and the character just lead me in a totally different direction than I was planning on when I started the chapter and it stumped me, I had to email my beta to ask if she had any ideas for how I could get him back from the point I ended up in.  :D

Must admit, I tend not to start posting a story until it is fully written, that way I hope the storyline will be tighter and not ramble,( I have 5 full length fics in various stages of completion at the moment), also it means I'm not under any pressure if I get blocked, and my readers will get nice regular updates too.

Some people are so very odd.  I am reading a fic where there is a triad relationship.  The triad is made up of one woman with father and son.  Kinky enough you might think but no the author keeps making "jokes" about the son having s.e.x with the father.  Seriously?  I am not anti gay but I am anti incest.  :o

Yuk. I can see a woman involved with a father and son. But having sex with both at the same time? Yeah, no. And? A three way lemony oneshot? Fine. A full story? No. Who could live that way? Some one always gets jealous.  :-\

OK, the father/son story sounds creepy...

But I really like poly stories. The Trip home is a very good story and there are several others that are pretty good.

And I actually know a poly family and it works for them. A married couple, she has a boyfriend and he has a (married) girlfriend. There is a lot of love in that family.
