  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #5 - We are crazy talkers here! Join in the fun!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

Offline Matron

I've been reading Nora Roberts since I can remember, and I've been reading the JD Robb books since there were fewer than 10 in the series, and I highly recommend those. Even people who aren't fans of Nora's books seem to enjoy the In Death series. Roarke remains top of MANY women's favorite heroes list, and Eve is pretty badass in her own right, without being annoying with it. 40 some odd books later, and it's still got me interested.

I thinkwe're up to 48 Matron counting the short stories - 19 years later and only 2 years in book time.  I started out in the middle of the series with Purity and got totally hooked and then started from the beginning with Naked in Death and am still hooked 10 and a half years later.  Mavis probably had the longest pregnancy in literary history - 7 books I think which took 3 years?

I need to read the latest one, then I think I'm all caught up. Yep, longest pregnancy ever! Well, unless you count tv soap operas! :D

I started with Visions, then I went back and read them in as close to chronological as I could starting with Naked through my public library and used book sales :) Then three years later I finally got my hand on Immortal :P Now I buy them as soon as they come out cause I can't stand it anymore between the 6 month wait and the teaser/preview pdf she posts, I'm salivating by the time the new one is released. Though I don't get the short ones right away, mostly cause I'm not that interested in the other authors. I just got The Unquiet 2 days ago, and have been too busy to get to it (want to kick myself right now). After Chaos, all I have left to read is Taken, and I may get that one sooner rather than later.

I collected them for YEARS, before I finally found the first one and read them. I had to start at the beginning, but I couldn't find the first one anywhere, even my library didn't have it, it wasn't wasn't so huge then. I can't even remember if Nora's name was on the early ones, was it?

I know I was reading the series before Mavis and Leonardo got together.

I haven't read Concealed yet.  I'm still waiting for it to come from Doubleday.  Matron, you must have started with Naked because Leonardo showed up in either book 3 or 4 when Eve went for a fitting for her wedding dress.  I had to go check my copy of Naked - it reads Nora Roberts writing as JD Robb - printed 1995.   Cattybratty - its actually a 7 month wait for the next one in September.  There is no anthology this year.  Yup - I'd say you are both addicted.  You would be known as InDeathaholics - and you are in good company.

I was getting ready to go offline and shutdown for the night and realized it was Immortal that Mavis met up with Leonardo because Eve and Roarke were already married in Book 4 - Rapture in Death.

I thought it was 7. It's like 5 months for one book and 7 for the other, so I split the difference :) I'm just glad I'm not obsessed enough to count the days  :o

The reprints (I.e. paperbacks) have Nora Roberts writing as.....
The original hard copies (what my library had) just have J. D. Robb. Then the hard copies went to Nora Roberts as..... Now they just assume you know and have gone back to J. D. Robb. I read that on a post her publicist posted to her facebook page.

That's what my copy of Naked has, just JD Robb, all the other books I have(had) of hers said Nora writing as...

I'd find one of the paperbacks in a bin somewhere and pick it up and set it aside, because I refused to read them before I could read the first one. Collected several before I was finally able to read the series. I finally found Naked, ripped and falling apart paperback form, at my library. Checked it out and never took it back, I paid for it. This was before I knew about Amazon.

I've been trying to avoid the crazies. I mostly stick with my tech support, vampward recs, and Famousward lovers groups. I picked up an annoying person over on the trade fics group where I shared my Google library. She keeps asking me to send PDFs. I keep telling her I don't like PDFs and she can find all I have in the Google drive.  Like I'm going to email 6 GIGABYTES of stories to her.  Yeah, that would take a year.

But other than her, there's some nice ladies out there. ;)

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Matron - if I remember from ID.net - they  started out in paperback.  Then  the publisher decided to do hardcovers on the early ones and they didn't sell very well - which at this point is time is surprising but they stopped so if you find one in hardcover, you have a find.   Cattybratty - Obsession in Death is due out next February.   And we have a ticking clock counting down the days the closer we get to the publishing date.  AJ will put up the clock maybe a month before the book is due.   We also have Brit members who get the books before we do and post the spoilers and drive everyone crazy.   For some reason, the Canadians got it a few days before the Brits this time around for Concealed.  One year the Aussies had it first and made everyone jealous.

Hi guys :) Can someone please recommend a complete fanfic where Edward deceives Bella by pretending he's something else (e.g. poor or middle class) but in truth he's rich? I guess something like Billionaire Bum. It would be a bonus if that fic is HEA and has lots of fluffy and smutty moments :) Thanks a lot.

Edit: Oooh, I just remember the -ward that I was looking for: Richward >:D

Jumping in this convo late...

Cattybratty, you were 12 when you read twilight?!? Damn, you make me feel so old! Like i could actually be your mother as my daughter was i think 10 when it came out.   :P Glad you're of legal age now and i won't feel so guilty corrupting you  :D

I've never read a J.D. Robb book as am not a fan of nora roberts style of writing but that series does sound interesting. Reminds me of Catherine Coulter's FBI Thriller series featuring Savich and Sherlock. Love that series and all Coulter has written!  :) Might gve Robb a chance but adding another 40 books to my collection of to be read books seems so daunting!  ???

Eacalltheway, i am allergic to gluten so it's good i am staying away from it so i don't get punished  :D From what fic did the 2 quotes you posted come from?

I finished reading the new In Death book from J. D. Robb on Thursday. If you haven't read it, or got it yet, I recommend you do. Just as good as her others, and might please the angsthore for a little while :) not that it's overly angsty.... just a touch along the plotline.

Ohhhh ......an area right in my expertise.   By all means, read the InDeath series by Robb - in order.   I'm a moderator on InDeath.net devoted to the InDeath Series by Robb - we also cover Nora but not as much.  Cattybratty - come visit us.  We are an addicted bunch.   You'll have fun.  Gotta run - I gotta go back and moderate.  Was taking a break.

Thanks ladies! I've never read any of her books but I'll give Naked a go after I've read the Dennis Lehanne I've had on my iPad since Jesus was a boy...

LOL!  Sorry for setting a bad example. ;D

I have to say one of the good things about getting older has been I don't give as much of a sh*t to what rude people think about me.  But I still try to politely tell them to get lost.  :D
