  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #5 - We are crazy talkers here! Join in the fun!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

Jeez. You step away from the computer for a few hours and the conversation has jumped two pages.

Booked, if it makes you feel any better, I may have been 13 :) like I said, it was before the books were mainstream and probably 2 or 3 years before they even started talking about a movie.

And you don't have to worry about corrupting me. I joined the dark side a long time ago. They offered me cookies  :P

2 pages? When this thread first started you didn't even have time to post a reply before 10 new posts had gone up! It use to be a madhouse...I use to be scared to not log on for a day because the my catch-up post would be insane, that alone could be a page long...Ahhhh, the good ol days.... :D  Which reminds me, I haven't seen RDM since I've been back? Loopy, Ella? Where she at?
Somedays are slow.  Then someone will say something and next thing you know, five pages have happened - all while I'm asleep LOL!

And there were times when one person would post about 10 things responding to all the posts they missed. That used to happen to Astro a lot.  But somedays it happens to me, being almost the only one whose in the Pacific time zone....

Poor PK, do you remember she'd be on here talking to herself while we were all asleep!  It's hard to believe now she used to be a 'lurker' (her words not mine) :D :D. I'd swear at that stupid pink box that would come up and say ' a new post has been uploaded' etc etc until she told me how to turn it off!

N.B. I just went back and visited part 1 of this thread, I had to laugh at some of the stuff on there  :D

I'm in the Pacific Time Zone as well and some days it totally sucks with talking to fandom friends.

Ok, who else read Bonne Foi?  I have had this on my TBR list and finally got around to reading it.  Just finished it tonight.  I really really wanted to like the fic because I love vampward.  With that being said, I was a little disappointed in it.   I guess I wasn't expecting it to be so much like the original Twilight books.  There were differences thrown in, but ultimately it was the same story.     What did you guys think of it?

I believe ya mate, I really do!  :D
Oh Ella, that made me laugh!...I've never tried a swing, I live in a very old Victorian property and I'm not sure the ceiling would be able to take the stress, my electrician had a hard enough time putting up new light fittings!!  Which story is that? The only older Bella/Edward I can think of is The Real Life Of; but their sex life was in need of NO help!

Your mum fell out of a sex swing? Your mum? My mum still pretends I'm a virgin and huffs if someone kisses on TV.

I can't for the life of me imagine my Mom sitting in a love swing. My Mom is more like Demari's Mom. She uploaded some book to her Kindle the other day and was totally horrified when there was sex involved. She immediately deleted the book and complained: "This book is like a porno! Disgusting!"  :D Note to myself: Never ever let my Mom get her fingers on my Sony. And Thank God for my reading only in English!

I noticed lately that the hook for our love swing is bent. It's directly over our couch in the living room, so I often have time to inspect it. I'm a little hesitant at the moment to suggest the love swing to hubs.  :P But then, the couch is under it, so I'd fall not far and soft. Or...the hubs should be the one in the swing!  >:D

I haven't really liked any of the Twilight fanfics that Amethyst Jackson has written even though they appear to be well received. I used to love her back when she was writing HP fanfic, but that was well over 10 years ago, so I guess my tastes have matured (lol not really) or I've outgrown her writing. I'd just call them bland.

For those of you that write your own fanfiction, do you actually post it and read the reviews? I have a little plot bunny in my head, which is surprising since I never thought I'd see the day when I figure random thoughts would make a nice story. But the thought of sharing it with other people is terrifying!

The last time I wrote anything was back in high school and I was still using a story web  ;D

Maybe I'll write it just to get it out

Ooo and before I forget; a few pages back there was talk of reading angst, and I remembered this one shot by lola-pops that left me really unsettled. So much of the "angst" I read is really just miscommunication between characters or thrown in love triangle relationship drama. This ended on a "good" note, but

I have no idea of writing, but your last sentence seems a good idea to me. You don't have to post it. Start with a little step and write and then you'll see if you feel like making it public. I'm sure you'd find a bunch of willing pre-readers here!  ;)

Loopy, guess it runs in the family! Love your mum as well!!!

demaris, oilily sepperl, think my 85 yr old mom is much closer to yours than Loopy's. before she retired at 60, she was the usual conservative type, would negatively comment about some torrid kissing scenes she saw on tv.
After retirement, she began reading my mills and boon books. Then i unknowingly included some blaze books. she didn't give a peep! I also let her watch a sex tape scandal of a local celebrity here and she would comment "he's got a nice butt"  :o then she also said she wanted to read fifty shades. guess people do change as they grow older, specially if they have nothing to do all day but watch tv or read books  :) however, i don't think she has ever seen a dildo (a fax machine is incomprehensible to her  :P) so a sex swing would be beyond her imagination.  :D

I write and post on FF, and I read and reply to every review, it's the least I can do to thank someone who took the time to leave me a review. (They either boost my confidence if they liked it, or help me look subjectively at the piece if they didn't.) I must admit I'm a bit unconventional in my writing method, I don't plan or plot anything...I get a vague idea for some twists or plot points and I just start to write. (But, I don't start to post anything multi chapter until I have it in the bag, just in case I run out of steam). I'd recommend just go for it, write, write and write some more and see where it takes you.  ;)

I remember the feeling of writing and posting something for the first time and being terrified how it would be received. Writing is such a personal thing. I would recommend joining Free Writers and Readers. They are so nurturing and supporting, there are groups on there to help with planning, grammar even graphics groups who love to make you story banners, they host writing competitions all the time...and the best thing, there are loads of other writers on there to chat with and they give constructive feedback. ( They don't stand for flamers either, which helps cut down on the fear factor. ) I'm ClaireBamboozle on there, if you do join let me know and I'll show you around the site.

Good luck.  :-*

I sometimes worry about reading some fics while on public transit, but my ereader is small and while a lot of people speak English here it is generally the second language, or at least that is what I keep telling myself.

Glad that you and bump are doing well.
Lets hope that he decides to wait for a bit longer, I'm sure the next month will fly by.
I remember you saying about moving your daughter into her "big girl bed" - that's great news that she has actually done that now, hope that she likes it. I know it took my sister-in-law ages to get my nephew to settle into his own bed.
Lol, I'm sure the dogs will soon move when your son starts crying through the night.  :D

Thanks Loopy. My daughter actually really likes her big girl bed, she "helped" her dad assembly it and the transition has been pretty good.  It  didn't help that she got a cough right when we transitioned her so she would wake up several times a night and get up, but now she is doing pretty good with it, even put herself down for a nap one day (I don't anticipate that happening normally)

Question, didn't Taybee pull The Surrogate a little while back?  I only ask because this morning I got two updates for the story from her and they don't line up with the complete fic that I have that is 15 chapters long including a epilogue and outtake. Is she reposting and adding to? Or has someone grabbed her account? For some reason I thought The Surrogate was going to be published and that was why it was pulled.  Am I remembering wrong?

Someone awhile back mentioned this fic.  It's on my watch list as well.  Well, it's now complete but I'm having trouble downloading it either from FFDL (standalone version) or from Calibre.  With FFDL, I got the time runout error message after 30 minutes.  With Calibre, well - it keeps running and running and after an hour only 1% got downloaded.

I think that if you already downloaded it as a WIP and just wanted to update the link, it's fine but if you just want to re-download then the error will occur.  My guess is that the file is too big.  I really like to have the PDF version from FFDL :(

Anyone having the same problem?

It's probably because of the size of it, over a million words, that's as big as ten decent novels. I'll see if Calibre will let me do it .

I updated as I went, although I didn't start using Calibre on it until about July of last year.  I have an incomplete pdf (through the date in October when Flag was banned from ffn), and a complete (I hope) epub through Calibre.
