This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general. But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

I guess it's back? I couldn't get it on my phone but FFnet is on my computer.

Yeah, it just came back. I had posted on Facebook asking about it and one of my peeps gave me this link to let me know if FFN is down for me or everyone and some helpful info on the page too.

Excuse me while I get a bit excited as Cris has finally finished As Children After Play.

I have to admit I've only read it til chapter 4 or 5 as it was so long between updates, to really make year now I really hope she completes Wisp.

I've been reading a lot of Evil!Charlie stories here lately and thought I'd try my own. Canon pairings, Cullens are vampires. There will be smut; I like smut . Kick-ass big sister Rosalie and possessive Edward.

Did you get the new update for FFDL? I just updated mine. He put one out yesterday that worked for a short time. I really hope we aren't causing all these server crashes though.

Lol, well you know me I am an angst wh0re, so I'll definitely start it (hopefully) sometime next week and let you know if you'll be able to cope with it.

I just used v1.8.13 to download a story and it worked, but it seemed slower than it has been. I only did one story and it took 8.5 minutes

Just tested the new update and it worked well. I only did about 10 stories though.

That's the newest. But you could have times out when the server when down.

Just a note - stories will take longer to download and the wait increases the more stories you download. They did this on purpose because users were getting blocked by FFnet. So you do need to give it time.

Though overnight? Should be enough.... If the server doesn't crash. $:-\$

Ladies -

I just came across this minor 'problem' I would like to share with you....

Loopy mentioned that RobzBeanie has just completed Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happy Endings, so I went ahead and updated my Calibre. Then I noticed that she's also completed Reason for Living with 42 chapters with last update date as 2/26/2014. That puzzled me because my Calibre already had this story marked complete with 42 chapters back in November 2013 (not sure about the date though). I still went ahead and updated that story but of course Calibre wouldn't update because the story already had 42 chapters. However, chapter 42 in Calibre was only a 'fake' chapter from the author to announce some other updates. She now just updated the fake chapter with the 'real' chapter.

So the bottom line is that you have to either select 'override' when updating existing link or re-download it so that you can have the new 'real' chapter in.

If this issue has been mentioned before, I'm sorry! I thought that some others (who are not Calibre-experts like me

) might want to know...

Thanks. You can select the story, hit update fanfiction and then show download options. Change the Update Epub if new chapters to update Epub always, and then hit OK. You will get the new version with the updated chapter. This is a problem with FFDL, but if you update always, it will overwrite pulled fics that leave a chapter and you will lose it all. $:-\$

So I redid the download from last night that crashed out. It took about 2.5 hours to do around 89 updates including count pages. The actual story count was 192, but only 89 needed updating. I don't know how this affects things

Right now, any time I try to update more than 10-15 stories at once, the updater crashes, so I can only do, like, 10 at a time.

This probably won't make anyone feel better, but I'm not having any of these problems. And the downloading is going faster than it was last week.

I don't know..... I just use fndl and skydrive since I only have my phone and my laptop, and I don't have a problem..... but then again, I'm only downloading complete fics.

For the most part, I've never had a problem with the standalone version of FFDL. I still use it for a quick download of a completed fic for my Kindle.

But I love the metadata I get with the Calibre plugin.

Shoot me now! I read a real book and it was a WIP!! Should have known better but i love this author and series. Was so excited seeing Grant and Harlow's story finally told i forgot Abbi Glines penchant for "cutting" stories. Still, Take A Chance was worth the read. I can't wait for the next book to come out.

Highly rec her entire Rosemary Beach series.
