Thread #5 - We are crazy talkers here! Join in the fun!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

I can hardly stand to purge fics esp., those that have been pulled.   To ease the strain on my laptop, I bought myself a huge 1tb external drive to store fics.  Who knows if I will ever read them but at last they are there if I want to.  :)

Oh, am actually "living dangerously" by doing this ipad purging/PC storing. Said PC has been reformated thrice already in the 6 yrs i've had it (jurassic, i tell you). It's about due to do that again soon  ;D Lost family pics, work and PC games but still haven't gotten around to buying a new PC or at least an external hard drive to safely store my stuff. The very first wipe out taught me a valuable lesson: i print my photos soon after i arrive from our annual vacations.  :) i just forget to put them in photo albums but at least i have a hard copy already...somewhere in my house....  :P

Glad we have FFG's great masterpiece: the index! Am not so worried now if my PC crashes. I can just get it from here. And this is also why i donate to PTS. It may not be much but as they say, every little bit will help MR. Admin maintain the site.  :)

Any drive will die at some point.  It's a given.  So it's always best to have it in at least 2 places.

I'm a bit of a gadget freak so I have a lot of drives and computers.  I just have stuff everywhere.  But even backing up to CD/DVDs is good.

OK I confess, I have a back up drive to my back up drive. I told you I needed help.

I do that with pictures, but haven't gotten to that point with my fic obsession, I am just glad places like this exist.

The problem for me is not a lot of the non canon is saved nor my fav HP fics.

I donate to PTS, Flag, Calibre & Storymaster, not all at the same time of course.

Please, someone explain to me why I get such a thrill every time I hear the FSOG film has run into yet another brick wall?! I mean, I'm not by nature a vindictive person or.....drown puppies or anything, and yes, right from the start, as soon as I finished reading that pile of tur...those books I thought. 'Pleassssse don't let this ever be turned into a film'. But still every time I read an article like the above I cackle like a Macbeth witch! I need help.....or Jesus.  :P
You're not alone hun, I piss myself (nearly literally on occasion  :o ) while my friends are having a bitch fit about FSOG.

I've read both the fanfic and published version (which only had the names changed and nothing else) and I liked the fanfics even though they are part of the reason why I find watching any of the Twilight films difficult, as I keep picturing Edward tying up and gagging Bella (and in my mind leaving her in the woods somewhere so she's never found again!!!)  :D :P

I say that if anyone wants to watch a "BDSM" film, they should watch Secretary, as it deals with helluva lot of emotions from both MC's.

Will you both please enrol your children in my school? I need more parents who understand that they actually need to parent and make decisions for their children instead of letting the children make all the decisions!!!
:You_Rock_Emoticon: :bravo_2: :bravo_2: :iagree: :iagree:
I so agree with you hun.
My youngest older brother and his witch wife are major examples of letting kids making all the decisions.
I love my nieces and nephew but they drive me crazy, they are now all in their early teens and what they say goes with their parents.
Me and my family went out to the zoo with them the other week and I was just glad to get home at the end of the day as I thought I was gonna have to stop the hubby from feeding them all the lions as they were driving him crazy with them getting their way all the time.  :D :D

If you need something good to read, I recently finished Drotuno's gravity series. She has it posted on her blog and on FF
I have heard a lot of good talk about the Gravity series and I wonder if it's something I'd like or not.   I prefer fics that are heavier on the romance/drama than the suspense/action.   Do I remember that this is like a battle/war fic or something? I might have that wrong.

Definitely check this out if you liked the Hunger Games or other young adult type books.   I am really looking forward to Book 3!

I woke up early this morning to finish G. Norman Lippert's fourth book James Potter and the Morrigan Web. It was so good. I wish there were more! Alas, he says he wants to write seven, but can't make any promises as he has a real job... But there's this larger story arc that still remains... I want to read them all NOW!

Now I'm going to take a break with some real fics before returning to my love of Twific. I'm not sure if I want to get enmeshed in the HP world. Definitely not the slash of H/D.
Hearing you talk about Lippert's fics makes me want to gobble them all up immediately!!   Are they super long?   No slash, right?  Everything 100% canon?

I realize that it is ff.net, but I was under the understanding that the firefox add on by passes java, so the java has to be related this some how. I just found it curious that after Java updated, I was able to do some limited copy and paste in Chrome that I wasn't able to do before.

I use Chrome for most things, IE for ff.net and Firefox for random other stuff.

On IE, I can C&P the summary but not the actual fic.

If I want to quote the fic in a review, I copy the URL from IE, paste  into Mozilla, copy the part of the fic I want, and paste it back into my review in IE.

So, I need to really, really, really want to review in order to do this.

Still hoping ff.net comes to their senses - if people are going to steal, they'll find a way!

I don't think that the Gravity series is about war really. Here are the descriptions for each of the 3 stories. I don't wanna give anything away but there is definitely action in these.

I really hate PDF's  They are hard for me to read - the print is usually too small or a strange font that doesn't work well on anything but a computer.  So losing my collection of mobis and epubs would probably kill me.   :ohcrap:

Losing the photos would devastate me far more than losing fics/books and tv shows/movies. Those are the only things I back up.

I guess I should also back up things like my tax returns, but they are not as important!  ;)

Not battle/war. He is a former soldier, she is a PI.

I really did like the first one, and had every intention of going straight on to the rest of the series, but was slightly derailed with so many other good things to read. I'm hoping to have it finished by the end of the year.

Did I imagine it or did someone say she is working on Part 4?

ETD: I think I just got ballsed up - I just got an email alert that SexyLexiCullen has a new story - You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - Fourth Addition to the Storm Series.

What? you read HP slash?  LOL did you know it was HP slash going in?   Tell me more...

I didn't pay attention to the part where it said it was slash.  I was half asleep.  And then it caught me.  It is actually a great story, there's no real lemons in it.  Just kissing and cuddling.  I mean you know they do the deed, but it is not described.  I just kind of ignored that it was slash.  A lot of it is in letters.

Lippert's fics don't feel long when you're reading them. I think the first two were about 400 pages each, 500 for the third and the fourth book was an awesome 600. Like the original series, each book has its own story arc for the school year though there is a developing overall arc that makes me feel like I'm on pins and needles awaiting the rest of the books...(ugh, why can't he write faster and WHY did I start reading them before the series was complete?  :P) But back to your question, yes, it's completely HP canon and follows their kids as they enter Hogwarts. James is Harry and Ginney's first-born son and the stories follow him, his cousins and their friends. Lots of magic and wizardry! No slash--actually no lemons at all. It starts off with them at 11-years old, so we'll see...

Though I've only read the first book of the Gravity series, I really enjoyed it. I loved the action and the romance that develops along side it. The lemons don't stand out in my memory, which is probably a good thing because that usually only happens when there are too many, not enough, or they're just plain awful.
