  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

I just spend my day reading this You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, I swear that I saw the C of complete when I started reading it, BUT IT'S NOT ! And It hasn't been updated since  05-18-09. !!!!!!

Such a shame it's really good, I had one last chapter and it all seemed like it needed a lot to be completed, but this is Fanfiction so I keep thinking, this will get better in the last paragraph Edward will come in and make everything perfect and they have their HEA.

But they don't because IT'S NOT COMPLETE and it hasn't updated in 4 years, 50 months, 217 weeks or 1,522 days.  :pulling .

There is nothing worse than reading a really good WIP and knowing it will never be completed. :'(

Okay - I'll stop with the dramatics, but seriously I'm pissed. Stupid mobile fanfiction leading me to believe something it's complete when it not.  :33:

Somehow managed to get behind like 5 pages...  just read through them all and now all i can think about is this thing called tim tams!

Arnott's Tim Tam Caramel Biscuits 150g by Arnott's

If you guys tell me they have them with Peanut Butter I'm packing my bags and movie to Australia!   I think I'm going to be placing an Amazon order! Now just have to decide which kind I want. :)

Awww - you can come and visit me anyway!

I believe that Pepperidge Farms started making/selling tim tams earlier this year - I don't think they would be exactly the same as what we have here. Our chocolate is different. You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Alas, we have no peanut paste Tim Tams (I stubbornly refuse to call it peanut butter - someone has to hang on to our native language!  :D) but last night I had a peanut paste Lindt Ball - oh my goodness...soooooo goooood!

Speaking of delicious balls that I'd like to put in my mouth, those Lindt Balls aren't nearly as good as ... more DioRob!

Hey everyone.

I've finally been able to catch up on here after a week from Hell.

I cannot believe I am saying this but, it is too bloody hot!  24C at 8pm is not funny.  I haven't been sleeping well because of the heat and A/C is not something we usually need here.   ;D

Also, I have been having major issues with my daughter at school - she is the victim of a bully and this week was physically assaulted by a couple of girls in her class.  This has been an ongoing issue with name calling and the like but, I draw the line at violence.  She is only 10 and is showing signs of depression.  The response from the school was not what I would have hoped so, obviously, a lot of my time and energy has been focussed on this.

I was going to make a flippant comment about the "heat" in the UK, but then I read the next paragraph and gasped out loud!

Mate!!! That is NOT ON! School is supposed to be a safe, happy place for every child!

And to end the school year like this! It makes my blood boil! What has the school done? When adults commit physical assault they wind up in jail! Did the school take appropriate action?

I don't usually recommend this, but would you consider changing schools when your daughter goes back?

We had a terrible bullying problem at my school with our Year 5 (10 year old) class back in 2007/2008. When I had been there for about 8 months it all came to a head when a victim told a friend that he wanted to kill himself and I decided to address the problem with a class meeting. The meeting was very calm and supportive, but all of the children, including the 2 bullies, got to express their concerns. I believed - and still do - that it was very supportive, empowering and positive.

One of the bullies' mothers took offence and made things utter hell for me - she was an even bigger bully than her son, and after abusing me and my teachers, she put in complaint after complaint to regional office, who didn't handle it well, then lied about things and then tried to force me into giving the mother an apology. This mother even got the local news to run 2 stories on consecutive nights - badly researched and entirely fabricated - I ended up taking legal action against the channel and they had to do a retraction.

Anyway, the child changed schools, but the mother persisted in her harassment of me, and with no support from my supervisors, I had a bit of a breakdown and have been dealing with mild depression ever since - although that is getting better.

Anyway, I have really strong feelings about bullying, and have done a lot of research into prevention and how to handle bullying. If I can help or give advice in any way, let me know.

And hug your little girl - tell her it's a special cuddle from Australia!  :-*

Greetings fellow Northerner.  Do you need me to hop over the Pennines and have a word at that school?  I am still up because it's too bloody hot to sleep.  Seriously, can you not go outside and waft some cool air this way?  You did right to vent on here, that's what friends are for, to listen and support. Lots of love H xxx    :-*

OK - I can make a flippant comment about the "heat" in the UK here!

Awwww - poor Brits! They've had a week of temps over 30C (86F) !!!

Here's a little tip that might help you deal with this atrocious heat:

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Just wait for September and you'll be begging for warmer temperatures again  ;)

I've heard that this could last into September.

I am hoping so as we go away to sunny Norfolk (hopefully) mid August.

These kind of temperatures are not so bad when you have a bar and a pool at your disposal.  Not when you have to go to work and work!

I do not have a pool.

I do not have a bar.

I just keep my fridge well stocked!  :D :D :D

I feel for you with the heat,  today it was 102 with a heat index of 115.  we get these heat waves over the summer that are ridiculous.  7 days of this heat and I am done.

That is warm!

I give you permission to whinge!

I heard that the underground in London was well into the 100's F and also that people were passing out at the test match.

They were passing out at the cricket because the Aussies were kicking butt!  :D

Oh, and Hugh Jackman was there yesterday too - I would pass out at that!

That little hobbit beside Hugh is Michael Clarke - captain of the Aussie Cricket Team.

our boss even went out and bought us ice lollies this afternoon!

Ice lollies!  :D :D :D This phrase cracks me up! The TV show I'm watching right now is also laughing at the term "ice lollies" - they are doing a story on the uk "heat wave" and shared a statistic that "ice lolly" sales have increased by nearly 400%. Now they are laughing about "ice lollies"!  :D

We call them icy poles or ice blocks.

Am so sorry to hear your daughter is going through that.  :( It actually makes me very mad as well as it happened to my daughter when she was 11 (3 yrs ago). During that age, you will be told by the teachers to let the kids handle their differences so they could learn from the experience/to discern what is right and wrong. It made sense so I let my daughter's action dictate what I would do next. My daughter would come crying to me when we get home from work saying this girl told her this and that etc. I told her to just avoid those stupid ugly fuc king bitches as you don't need people like those in your life (i literally said those actual words) so she avoided them. after a week, the same bitches threw rice at her hair during lunch. it was not physical "violence" but that really made me saw red. Rice today, slaps and punches tomorrow?!?! Though the school will tell you not to confront the kids or the parents but course it through them, the FUC K with that!  Called up the parents of those 3 girls that same night to calmly tell them what had happened so they can discipline their kid. One only had her grandmother at home. the other only had an older sister guardian as the parents worked abroad. the last, i was able to talk to the mother. It makes you realize the situations of the other girls and understand why they do or act that way (apparently, no good supervision at home and 1 skank of a mother  ;D)

Still, their home life doesn't justify their bullying and I made damn sure my daughter knows she did nothing wrong by just being herself. that the problem is with those girls, not her. I remind her she can choose the friends she should hang out with and you don't need to mind all those other people who just bring grief/heartache. anyone who does that to her does not deserve to be HER friend.

sorry to rant, angers me when i'm reminded of what my own daughter went through.

It is a challenge to manage emotions of kids that age,but constant reminders they are loved, awesome just the way they are helps a lot. i told my daughter the best revenge you can have is to get better grades (i saw those girls, so it was no lie to tell her "you are sooo much more prettier than them"). She is now more focused at school, very active and a consistent honor student. now i am the one telling her to not put too much pressure on herself as I am proud of her just by doing her best, she doesn't need to have perfect scores.

i hope your daughter also realizes she is awesome and that this stage will pass. i know how frustrated and scared you feel as well. But hang in there! This will eventually fade and will hopefully make your daughter stronger. i will pray for the continued safety and enlightenment of your daughter as well.

take care!  :-*

I need a keyboard - there is so much I would like to say.

Thanks to everyone for all your kind thoughts and especially Booked and Astro for your rants on behalf of my daughter.  :-*

It is her last day of term today and I intend spending the summer reinforcing how special she is.

This has taken me ages to write - stupid phone!

This is cold comfort, especially when you're only 10, but experiences such as this build resilience and character.

Even if you do just want to beat the crap out of the people that hurt you!

I hope you all enjoy the break.

It's completely unacceptable. I would make it extremely clear to the school that you've been patient in terms of how they're choosing to deal with the situation, but things have reached a boiling point. Physical assault is a crime, no matter how old the perpetrators are or whether it took place in school, and it's not on for the school to let them off with a slap on the wrist. If I were you, I'd schedule a meeting with the headteacher where you tell her all that's happened and all that you've done to try and intervene in terms of telling the school, and if she refuses to take appropriate action I'd consider contacting the local council. No child should have to feel scared to go to school. Give her a big cuddle from us all and make sure she knows what a special, clever and wonderful little girl she is. :-*

I know. I'm living off my A/C right now here in LIC. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my neighborhood doesn't get shut down in a preemptive strike.
