  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

I'll go back to it.  It was just at one of those "mafia" places and well, it seems so fake to me.  So I get annoyed and I decided to put it down.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

And how can you be Italian mob with a last name of Cullen?   Sigh.  I know. It's fiction.  The problem with mafia stories? To do one good, it has to be really violent.  They are not good people.  You would not find a kind, caring doctor in there.  So to put Carlisle in the mafia without totally changing his character? Just doesn't work for me.

So small sections.  I will enjoy the bits of Edward and Bella.  And skim the rest.  Just so I can say I read it.   ;D

:D :D :D They explain all the points you raised in the story, the non-Italian name
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
  Jasper and Emmett,
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
OK I'll give you Rose and Alice, but I tend to think those two are....'surplus to requirement' in almost every story anyway....I didn't 'like' Carlisle in this story, he was pretty violent
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
You're right though, it is not a mafia-fic for sure, not like the Storm series, but I think Kharizzmatik was more interested in highlighting the horror of human trafficking and existence  of  slavery in 21st Century.

Yeah, I think I read all that.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

I think you are right though.  She wanted to do a "slave" story without it being too bad for Bella and this was probably the only way she could come up with.  Why else would you own a slave that wasn't for sexual purposes?  Because you do something illegal and need to be able to hide it if the "help" suddenly disappears.  So I do see that part.   ;D

I'm wondering if this was her first story also.  I find first time writers either put too much in or not enough.   ;)

Loopy - So glad to hear you're back, safe and sound!  Baby is doing well?

Anchalee - So jealous!  I WISH I could go to Kos.  Bah, I just wish I could lounge around on a beach somewhere for a week or two with a never ending supply of good books, delicious drinks, and Loopy's brothers-in-law hot guys.
Bump seems to be doing fine.
Lol, just make sure if you're going to perv look at my brothers-in-law just make sure it's the older ones.  :P

16 chapters of True Love Way.  Hopefully she will repost some of the other ones.  ;D
This made me squeal with excitement (I'm blaming the meds for that reaction  :P) which was a bad thing as it was painful, but anyway I loved this fic and haven't read it in a while.
I'm so with demaris on this one - I'm gonna wait until she finishes posting to re-read and hope she hasn't made too many major changes that could potentially ruin it.

I hope it will have been edited for SPaGs...

Ok, I need to vent or rant or whine or whatever you want to call it.   Lamelurker's comment made me realize how sad it is that we have to hope that a book we bought has been edited for SPaGs.  I can't be the only one who thinks that is absolutely crazy.  That should be a given, right?  And just because a book has been self-published isn't a realistic or legitimate excuse.   Sure, I'll be more understanding when I see an error here or there, but when a book is filled with spelling errors, misused words, or just general grammar and p.o.v. craziness, then am I wrong when I flounce or return the book I just bought?    And again, I'm not talking about fics because I am much more tolerant of these errors in fics, especially when an author indicates she or he has no beta.  Likewise, I am much more appreciative when a fic author has amazing betas who pre-read and edit the fics.

When authors publish their books, by indie/self-pub or big publishing house means, then the readers who have purchased those books should expect that they have gone through an editing process for at least basic grammatical and spelling errors.   If someone as grammaticallytarded as I am can spot recurring errors, then I know there is a problem.   Right?!

Lamelurker - sorry for hijacking your comment.  You gave me a chance to vent about a topic that's been bugging me, so thank you  :-*

LOL! Vent away.  I think we all agree.  Errors in free stuff is acceptable.  Errors in paid stuff? Not so much.  Especially when you pay $7.99 for a book.  99 cents? Yeah, I might let some errors go.

But then most 99 cent books I've bought, have errors.  Even some of the "classics" that someone added a linked TOC to so they could charge for it. Sad.

Damn, I should be sleeping but now I'm on a fic roll! Ok, my last post of the night.

If you're not reading Awkwardly Yours by Vancouver-Canuck-Girl, then you HAVE to.  Not only does Edward mention the diva cup, but he just called tampons "cooter corks" in today's update.

cooter corks!!!!

I need her to update faster, because I love this Edward.

High school Edward likes a girl named Bella But he's not a smooth-talking kind of fella He has his fair share of inserting foot into mouth And inappropriate risings down south But he's really kind of sweet Even if he's sort of a geek. You may come to hate his bro Who's Edward's number one foe But I promise laughs as the story progresses Because real life is full of stresses

Thank you for venting! I didn't even realize what I'd written, but it's true. I no longer expect RL books to be edited properly these days, especially since I read so many that are self-published or by smaller houses. It's quite sad really. My background is in print publishing so I almost always notice the errors, but try to keep my irritation to a simmering level. So, you did me a favor by venting for me!  :-*

I think if you look at the Index, you'll find quite a list of her fics.  Course, it may be so long because of all the EP outtakes.
Yesterday I spent some time adding the outtakes I could find to my copy of EP. I came up with 8 not including the interviews or Principessa! All together, it added almost 500 pages to the document! It's a lot of extra material for an already lengthy fic. I wonder when she had the time to write another fic not related to EP!

Hi, just finished You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login by Lolashoes. The last book of this trilogy went the fastest, and I liked it the most. It continues where the second book left off and you get to see these characters mature. Like I said about A Life Extraordinary, the trilogy replaces Breaking Dawn with a much better story. Thanks to those who rec'd it!

So EP is on hold for the moment.  Almost 500 pages in and still not really liking anything but Edward.  And let's face it. I almost always like Edward.

So I started The Cullen Legacy by PattyRose.  OMG! So good. I'm having a hard time putting it down.

I'm about halfway through according to my kindle.  ;)

Sounds engrossing, I think I'm starting The Cullen Legacy next. Thanks!

OK, really digging The Cullen Legacy... :13:
