  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

Hi girls!

Ok so this maybe a little controversial, but I just finished Dusty and I didn't like it. This story took me so long to read. Longer than EP, all the EP outtakes, the Alec novella, and the EP character interviews put together. It wasn't because of the length either. I just couldn't get into it. You know how sometimes you live for the characters for a while. When you're so engrossed that you're willing to neglect everything for them? Well it didn't happen for me. Put it this way, I got all my washing done, folded and packed away, got caught up on all other housework, was happy to have friends over, got my boys the haircut they so desperately needed and watched some tv - gasp!

It was so. damn. repetitive. Chapter after chapter.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
The word love was used 1487 times (yes i checked, dont judge lol) I almost gave up on it but I hoped it would get better and after reading 33 long ass chapters it did. For a short while.

Maybe it's just me.

I started to read it but I don't know if I wasn't in the mood or what that I only read the first 2 chapters and then went and read the ending and decided that I would put it off reading completely

You're not the only one that didn't like it, I keep hearing of people who keep flouncing it. I didn't even bother to read it because I skimmed some chapters and to me it seemed too angst-y and I don't like angst in every chapter, and you would Imagine that after reading so much it would have a nice HEA. :(

Yeah I know I mean, I went to read it with an open mind about it but I guess I wasn't in the mood to read Dusty, even though I have seen mixed reviews about it. Maybe one day I'll read the whole thing, but who knows

I think Dusty is one of those fics that you can only read as a wip. The updates left you time to recover from the angst and the style of writing. People that read it as it came out, me included, were really into it. But I don't think I would be able to read it all at once.

Maybe you should try reading it chapter by chapter everytime you need your angst fix.

I didnt read it in all in one go. I had many breaks. I know thats not the same as waiting for an update but i can see your point. Maybe if I had read it as a wip I would have a different opinion. For those who haven't read it but want to then i strongly suggest you take Almosts advice and read a chapter every few days. That might make a difference

I think every one who loved it did read it as a WIP, but there was a lot of disappointment with the ending and the two writers even semi "broke up" after the story was done.  Though that may have been because one wanted to pull and publish it.

You can go back and read all the discussion on this thread about it. I never read it myself.  Gotta have a definite HEA to read something that angsty ;)

Yeah, I heard that too.  But it wasn't enough of an HEA for me to want to read it. :)

But I'm also not an angst hoor.  I tend to go for the stories with some angsty and a lot of humor.  I always figure it's because real life is not an HEA, but it's okay.  I have nothing to really complain about. But there are no rainbows and unicorns.  I need rainbows and unicorns in my fiction to make up for the lack in my life.   :D :D :D :D

Or a good murder mystery.  But you don't usually find those in fanfiction.  :P

Loopy, ALL men are like that at ANY age, acting immaturely. They can't help it. We superior females just have to face that reality and continue to put up with them. It's the least we can do for the betterment of the human race.  ;D  :D

Astro!! Ladies!! You know where to go to for a possible mate! Gene pool certified by Loopy. Just disregard the "acting like a 5 yr old" warning label. Our "inner 11 yr old" will help us deal with that.  :D :D

I'm sure my Brother in-laws won't mind me trying to set them up, we could even start an auction for it.  :P :D

9 brothers? From the same mother?
Yep, all from the same mother - poor woman.  :P
I think she thought she was finished with #8 - the hubby and then 8 years later she had another and then 4 years after that she decided to round it of to an even 10.  :D
My Mum is one of 10 and my Father in-law is one of 12, so we both have big families.

I liked Dusty, even  though I was an emotional wreck while reading it - I was pregnant at the time though, so I blame that.
It's definitely not the easiest read and totally know what you mean about neglecting things when you're engrossed in a fic -

1. How do you all feel about AH epilogue's that finish with E/B deaths? They almost always make me cry, and I'm not sure whether I prefer it when we end with green-eyed babies or the more realistic deaths.

I liked it. It was an easy, light read, though should be rated T rather than M. B/E are really sweet to one another.

Bella's a mail order bride on her way to the Nevada desert to meet her Cowboy husband-to-be. She's supposed to be everything he's looking for but what will he do when it turns out she lied?

I don't like the main characters dying at all.

I like the unrealistic HEA which has me smiling at the end.

I always feel mixed when I read an AH epi where B/E live long happy lives, die and some descendent writes about their true love. I cry. Maybe it's because it reminds me of my grandparents who had that. Maybe it's my own sentimentality (?) that I enjoy, and the story would've been better off ending 40-50 years earlier. I read one where the epi takes place a hundred or two hundred years later, and I have to admit there was something nice thinking about B/E's story standing the test of time.

Is this a bdsm fic?
Anyone knows? I know I started reading this fic while it was a wip, I have no idea why I never finished it.

Edit: I'm on chapter 5, this Edward is creeping me out. Wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be a serial killer.
