This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Just wanted to pop on say a quick "Hi!" as I've not been able to get online for 11 days as I've been busy sorting things out as 10 days ago my eldest brother lost his fight to stomach cancer. 
He had been doing so well and the doctors were hoping that this course of treatment, might well of been his last but unfortunately it wasn't so and he passed away 2 days before his 50th birthday. 
At least he got to meet his first Grandchild as she was born six weeks early, and though we all kind of knew that this was a matter of "when" and not "if", the last week or so has been hard.
I'll catch up on the 25+ pages later as it's 12.10am here in the UK and I know there's gonna be loads of Dior Rob etc for me to drool over, but I'm just too tired at the moment.

I'm still struggling with the term "angst". I'm never sure what it means.

Part of the problem is, "Angst" is a German word, but seems to have a different meaning than "angst".
I just used the google translator:

"Angst" means fear, anxiety

"angst" in English doesn't give me a translation to German...

so, now I'm confused...

and because 'm still hearing Kurt Cobain in my head whenever I read the word angst ("teenage angst has paid off well..."), I always connect angst with that awkward teenage mood... so angsty stories always make me think of teenagers and their inability to form a relationship without a lot of unnessecary, self inflicted drama before (does he like me? he cannot really like me, i'm not pretty enough... my friend should ask him if he likes me, or better she should ask his friend if he could ask him if he likes me...)

So, I think I'm not near the true meaning of "angst", please enlighten me and show me the difference of angst and drama...

I actually think 'angst' is a subjective term based on what you like. if you're a person who only really likes fluff than you may see any complications as some (albeit mild) angst....vs if you're someone who loves the sad and depressing than it may take some serious shit for you to consider it to be a true angst fic.

Angst....drama....heartfail....they're all the same to me and I <3 any and all forms of it.

Although I def'y see drama as being the most mild. And I agree, some fics just have bad thing after bad thing happen...angst for angst sake and that can get old. I love the kind where it just hurts your heart to read....when Bella is bullied (that always gets me for some reason), abuse (parental, relationship, whatever), the emotional ups and downs when one is an addict, when mental illness/depression is present, when Bella FINALLY sleeps with E (I'm thinking of With Teeth for example) and then next time she sees him he sneers at her and pretends not to really know her. Those may not be considered as angst to some but those are what I think of when I want the heartfail.

For me, I don't really see cheating fics or the on again, off again relationship as angst...and I def'y don't think the fics where B and E are on and off because of simple miscommunication as angst.

One of the angstiest (is that a word? did I spell it right?) fics I read was Mutually Assured Destruction by Jandco...good Lord that fic about killed me, but I read it as a wip so that could have been part of that. The only thing better than a REALLY good, realistic angst fic? A Tragedy.

I'm rambling. And I don't think I've ever used the word angst as much as in this post lol. And I hope what I said makes even a little bit of sense...I'm not fully caffeinated so it's very possible that it does not.

There - clear as mud, right?  Try teaching English vocabulary to children!!! 

I have a second grader...and we're starting to work on spelling tests/words and such and seriously. There are so many exceptions to the rules for our language that I end up just saying 'It's just how it is' when he asks why the vowel isn't a long vowel sound because of the e at the end of the word, like is the rule.

I know I'm behind, but I just saw the winners for the DTE contest...  I read Channel #5, Good in the Stacks and then the one that was pulled (can't remember the name).   They were all really good.   Did you guys have any other big favorites?   I think I'll read Periodic Table next.

Thanks for the article! I was disappointed to read it's going to be 3 movies. *sigh* So I guess that means PWP (maybe)... Glad none of our favorite choices got the role then. What's worse, they really needed a great screenwriter, and while I don't know Kelly Marcel's work, the fact that her biggest credit is writing "Debbie Does Dallas, the Musical" does not bode well. 

Sounds like I'll be waiting for it on Netflix.

I'm just glad it's not an actor who's career I'm interested in....no offence to Mr Hunnam but I've never seen this Anarchy series so....and who is Dakota Johnson, never heard of her either so all good for if this film is any good I'll allow a 'back-door man' .  Oh God! I just had a awful thought, please, please, do not let them try and make these two into the new PatStew (or whatever their combined acronym was...) 3 films is bad enough!
