• Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

Just as an FYI, it also should be in the zipped folder for stories beginning with S on my google drive.  Those are all the PDFs I downloaded from Velvet Demon's 4share drive.  There are outtakes as well.

But that was posted before she pulled, and I won't pull single stories out....

I also have a mobi copy I downloaded myself before she pulled it... so...technically, I could share it because I didn't get it from her...  ;)

But no, just, if some of you want it, pm me  :)

I know that there some fans of 107yearoldvirgin in this group like me so I wasn't sure if you saw her blog post from yesterday, but I thought you would be interested in this

I know she seemed surprised how happy we were to see her here.  And I know we comment about people's writing here, but I hope they understand it isn't personal when we do it.  Also, the whole point of doing it here was to not comment on the reviews.  Sometimes you just need to say something, but you don't want to discourage the writing.

It's sad that there are such nasty people out there who hide behind a computer.  But I am so happy we would rather talk about things like plumkin and laugh, than be nasty.  Okay, plumkin is pretty nasty.  But you know what I mean.   :D :D :D :D :D

Yes, I love it here because we are all so friendly and I hope she comes back here sometimes and gets a new dose of all of us fangirling over her!  :)

I love posting SpaGs here, not for showing how bad a story is, but some are just so funny or cute (like the smuggling baby). But we are not mean about it, we all just like a good laugh!  ;)

I have a mobi as well, but since the Google drive stories have been out there, I just mention it.  There are a number of "please don't post" stories in it.  I just downloaded it all as a zipped file and left it as is.  This has been on my TBR list forever, but something keeps stopping me from reading it.

So I did finally find something that I'm liking.  It is a vampward, but a little different.  It is also a period piece, which I usually avoid having read so many when I was younger.  Edward is very sweet.

Edward moves to a remote homestead in Oregon, seeking isolation to recover from a traumatic event. However, a chance meeting with his lovely yet melancholy neighbor sparks concern for her. Can these two broken individuals help each other to heal? AU.

That is so true.  Some of them make me laugh so much.

Though I read a story by Silverblossoms which was basically a complaint about reviewers.   Bella writes fanfiction and was talking to Rose about some of the nasty reviews.  Edward overhears and gets all upset, wanting to hire a PI to find out who these people are and go and threaten them.

In my review, I said I might have to rethink my review policy if she was going to send an angry Edward after me for a nasty review.  Only because angry Edward is pretty hot!

She thought it was amusing.

She didn't realize I was totally serious....  :D :D :D :D :D

Though I have read one or two others of hers and found them enjoyable.  And I really love Vampfics.  But that was why I got into Twilight in the first place....

If I don't like it at all, I stop reading. There is a little x on every internet page, right?

If I read a WIP and see mistakes, I write that in my review. But that is possible in a nice way. No reason to be mean...
(one writer frequently mixed up some names, one did her math wrong and sent Bella to high school for 6 years...) If I see a huge mistake or something that upsets me, I pm the author. But that got me a not so nice answer once...  >:(

You know how sometimes I complain about the uninspiring, cliché formate a lot of Twific have, well I'm reading Sleepers, Awake and I have no idea what the hell is going on. Still at the early stages (chp 6) but I get a feeling we're not in Obvious any more toto...The writing is superb though and my brain feels like it's coming out of deep freeze, even if I do go three pages forward, two pages back to try and make sense of what I've just read!

Sleepers Awake by Fiesty Y. Beden

Bella, compulsive sketcher of wolves, has not dreamed in years. Unexpectedly, she begins to dream again the night tragedy takes away her first and greatest love. ExB, sort of.

Demaris, what kind of strange story have you got me caught up in? I'm on chapter 13, and I have no idea what is going on or where this is going. As a big fan of Lissa Bryan I'm obviously not averse to strange or original stories, but when is this going to start making sense? I'm sticking with it though...

Let me if it makes sense once you finish it, I also have this on my list.  It was rec'd by some author I really liked, although I can't remember who, but I just have never gotten around to reading it.

Isn't the saying 'you're as old as the man you're feeling'? And so in your case it'd be...?  :birthday: to Loopy Jr..

Caleb and Nathan Followill from Kings of Leon...I went to see them on Wednesday but unfortunately there was no manwich...excuse me I had to wipe the drool from my keyboard.

:iagree: wouldn't change it for anything...apart from a Caleb and Nathan manwich.. :D :D
Thanks for the birthday wishes - I give you all permission to give me a slap if I say I'm pregnant anytime soon after having bump as today has been a nightmare.  ;D
I forgot how stressful shopping with a bunch of teenage girls who love to flirt with the hubby is.
The hubby was begging me to let him leave us as he couldn't put up with the girls coming out the dressing room and wandering around the store finding him to ask his opinion of what they were wearing - I refused as this was his punishment for me getting glass in the ass.  :P :P :D

Demi hun was that at the iTunes Festival you saw KOL?

Early on I read a vampfic where Renesmee never got injured while hunting, but then this guy that asked her on a date tried to rape her and cut her with a knife.  I wasn't a fan of the attempted rape with no warning, but really? I told the writer it made no sense that Renesmee got cut.  I got a nasty reply from the author.  I'm guessing I wasn't the only one who pointed out the inconsistency.  I also flounced the story.  I figured it wasn't going to get better....   :P

But I also did write to an author about SPaG errors because she had 2 betas.  I basically said her betas were not doing the job in a PM.  She was really nice.  I'm now beta-ing for her....  :D :D :D :D

It was! At the Roundhouse in Camden, have you been there? It's a great not to large venue so you can get real close and personal I was right by the barrier, I did meet and greet (power of the press pass!)too but got there so late I only met Matthew, well I say 'only' but I was very happy to meet Matthew.  :D But you can't have a Followill manwich with only one Followill!

I liked Touching Solitude--meadow or not.  :)

As for Sleepers, Awake:
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

. I'm in a mound of tissues ATM, so I obviously got really invested in the story--a good indication that it was well written. I'm actually not sure what to say. I can't believe it ended the way that it did. Not what I was expecting. At all...
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
I can say that it was gripping. I was confused for a long time reading it, but I couldn't stop reading it. I was really looking forward to the ending...until I read it. Maybe others will like it though.  :o
I just 107yearoldvirgin's blog post and just have no words.

This time last week, I was really feeling down - my temperamental health issues had left me feeling really upset and anxious and I was a bit over everything.

A visit here and a text message from a very dear friend that I have gotten to know via PTS got me through the weekend and through last week and now I'm seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

I can't imagine seeing pure evil and hate every time I turn the computer on. It makes me so angry, and so very sad, that there are people who are so cruel - and adults none the less!

Remember the outrage we all felt when Rickell told us what her daughter was going through? There is no justification for bullying, but some of us had a very small amount of empathy for the other child because her home life wasn't great, and unfortunately a small amount of teasing - definitely not bullying, but teasing - is something that everyone goes through, especially in the teenage years.

Why does it continue when we are adults? What deep-seated need do these people hope to meet by destroying the confidence, self-esteem and potentially, the lives of their victims?

For God's sake! These people are adults - and THEY make the decision to visit a website and click a link to a fic and then read the fic. No one has ever held a gun to my head and forced me to read anything on ff.net!

Some of you may have seen mention of a particularly disturbing fic on ff.net that was, despite being reported since June, was only removed yesterday (it was still available on AO3 yesterday). The fic involved incest and child molestation and had some disturbing reviews about how "hot" this was! A father ejaculating on his newborn daughter that his teenage daughter had given birth to, 10 year old children being taught to pleasure their parents and siblings, teenagers impregnated by their parents, and adults impregnated by their children - it was possible the worst thing I had ever read, and I read about 4 chapters too many before I not only stopped reading but also reported the fic. The only reason I kept reading was because I was expecting the story to change and the perpetrators would get their just desserts.

Did I contact the "writer" and threaten them and call them names? Did I leave a review that would raise their review count and give them the attention they were obviously craving by writing this travesty? Did I jump onto FB or Twitter and discuss the fic? No - for the first time ever, I reported the fic to the site administrators and waited for them to remove it, which they eventually did.

There is a right way and a wrong way to handle every situation, and 107's blog shows us that we don't know what other people are going through. For all I know, the writer of that awful fic is a victim of abuse and this might be their cry for help - misguided, sure, but I don't know what goes through some people's minds.

What I really love about PTS is that, while we might not always talk favourably about a particular fic, and we might be critical of a person's behaviour, I can not recall one time when any of us have actually attacked anyone personally.

Even the thumbs down button was a source of angst for most of us!

I hope 107 is still hanging around here - it's a positive place and I'd like her to know that there are still decent people in the world who do genuinely care for each other.

I don't get it either. If I don't like something I read, I hit the little X to close the tab, or delete the book from my tablet and my Calibre library, and I move on. If it's a really badly written book that people might spend good money for, yes, I'll leave a review, but I try not to be mean, I never attack the author, and then I move on. What's the point of being mean over a book/fic/ or review? Who needs all the negativity?

What the hell? I'm disturbed just reading about it.

Hope you are feeling better.  :-*

Thank you. I'm slowly, slowly getting better. I'm still on horrible meal replacement shakes and can't handle solid food - I tried again on Friday night and it was a spectacular failure!

I had an allergic reaction to the medication I started - crazy mad itching, rash, puffy eyes, swollen throat - but the new stuff seems to be ok. My doctor said that I seem to be "hyper allergic" so am reacting to everything, even things that have never been a problem.

At least I know that there is nothing life-threatening. My imagination got the worst of me last weekend as I was waiting for test results, and combined with feeling as lousy as I was, I was not in a good place.

Anywho...

For anyone keeping count - yesterday I was reading three fics at once!!! THREE!!!  :o

Yesterday, I read You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login.

I want it all. I need, and I take, and I abuse. But I love my Love, and I love my Sin. I can't let either one go.

This is the first fic by this author and she has some real talent. It's a cheater fic, and I wouldn't even describe it as HEA although I guess it is, but it's a clever fic - my sympathies for the 3 main characters shifted with each chapter. I really don't know what to say about this fic - I wouldn't have said that I loved it, but it has stuck with me - I find myself thinking about it and wanting more - so I guess I did love it!

It's short - 22 chapters, but only 50 pages when I flagged it - but not a word is wasted. Please read it and let me know what you think - maybe someone else can articulate what I'm trying to say.

Also - new fanfic site seems to be getting some positive attention: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
Even I can navigate my way around it!

At all...

I can say that it was gripping. I was confused for a long time reading it, but I couldn't stop reading it. I was really looking forward to the ending...until I read it. Maybe others will like it though.  :o
It looks like there are a couple outtake chapters - maybe that will help.

I'm liking Touching Solitude.  I actually don't mind the meadow.  I just remember someone here hates meadows.....  :D :D :D :D :D
