Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

Oh God! Oh God! Oh God! I am not to be trusted to stray from this thread...I went looking for Poughkeepsie and ended up downloading 6 new fics from the thread it was on and now.... :-[ :banghead: I need serious  :17:

Did you find Poughkeepsie?

I FLOVED that fic.  It was one of the earlier fanfictions I read and the story was so different from anything I'd read before.

Haha, I AM poor, so every book counts! :D And I'd never look down on something just because it was fic, some of my favorite stories are fics.

What I wonder is why no one gets as angry over stuff that's P2P from other fandoms. I know of at least one M/M that was Brokeback Mountain fic originally, and while it gets pointed out, no one really seems to care.
I was poor for many years so I get that.  I think Twilight gets a bad rap because it was a YA story but most of the P2P are very adult.

Astro, that's another reason I don't like ADF.  PTS is the best. FB is a far second.  And for me? Goodreads doesn't even rank.  Too many nasties there.

So I just read a short ballet fic and want more! I did some digging and two came up that I was wondering if anyone has read or would rec. Top contenders are: Conversations Between Adults and Claire De Lune. Thoughts? Have something better to rec?

Oh, and the story I read that was cute and sweet was You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login by harperpitt.

I think more people look down on it because it was Twilight than because it was fic, which makes no sense at all. Hell, we wouldn't all be here, writing and reading Twific if Twilight hadn't resonated with us all in some way, so why look down on stuff that was Twific?

Butterfly Betty wrote one that is okay.  I don't remember the name right now, though.  Bella is a ballet teacher in No Holds Barred by jayhawkbb, but that's a WIP.  I love jayhawkbb's stories!

Maybe they are too embarrassed to admit they like a story spawned from that horrible movie?

And? It always amazes me when I read a twific from someone who only saw the movie.  They even admit it. *shakes head*

I read the series probably five or 6 times before I discovered twific and have never returned. I don't know what it was exactly about the series, but it was like crack to me--I just couldn't get enough. And I really don't know why since they aren't very well written and the characters have major, major flaws. I guess it was all the potential I could see, which has been explored by Twific. To me, that's the crux of it and why I say kudos to those who have edited and revamped their stories by P2P. They looked at a piece of art, absorbed it, made changes and then made their own from it. It's what artists have been doing for millennia. (It's when they don't edit the pulled fic and only do a find/replace search that I get pissed reading the P2P version.)

It's because this fandom can be a little crazy - you know, just a tad  ;)

And when you broaden that fandom to include the shippers and the Robstens, etc - well, we're in batshit territory!

I've been thinking about this P2P thing - I don't have any issue with it, so long as the writing is good.

I'm thinking I have more of an issue with people who write original fic, and then change it to twific in order to cash in on a built-in fan base and to get noticed in the writing/publishing world.

You know what else I don't like?

(I'm on a ranty roll this morning - I'm stuck in a meeting and typing here makes it look like I'm taking notes  ;))

I don't like going to the effort of answering questions and responding to requests on ADF and then not even getting a thank you!

So...well done, Mr.Admin for inventing the Thanks button!  :sign0098:

Needy people like me appreciate it!  :-*

Wait! People write OF and then post it as a fic????
I need names!!

I think Lissa Bryan's Dark Goddess was originally OF.  It's a good story too.

I actually think a couple of the P2P stories were originally OF that didn't sell.  I mean, free betas, reviews that give you feedback on what went wrong - how can you miss?

It is one of the few stories I actually loved the lemons. Their first time in the meadow (yeah, there it is, lol), sooo lovely...
Are you talking about Poughkeepsie?   I've been wanting to read this forever but keep putting it off.   Isn't he a homeless guy living in a subway or something?

Yes, that's the story. I really liked it, but only read the published version. Not sure if I'd liked the fanfic because several characters are just very ooc.

In the 152 thread we just talked about another P2P fic:

Half Truths and Full Circles by Admittedly Obsessed (posted here:  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login)

Summary:  Bella lives next to Alice and Jasper Whitlock in Port Angeles. When Alice leaves Bella a message: "Please take care of the delivery I'm expecting at my door," Bella expects a package ... and finds Edward, asleep, in a knee brace, and hiding a secret past.

and published as

"Between the Lines" by Alison Oburia.

It was pulled as a WIP... I read it not knowing that and was left right in the middle of a great but very thrilling part...  >:(

That book I will read soon!  :)

The one by Butterfly Betty is called Cullen Ballet Academy, I have read it and the other two you mentioned, and really liked the ballet in Clair de lune by Amberdeengirl, but the sequel, which is a work in progress takes the story in a different direction.  I remember reading Conversations between Adults by DazzlinSparkle05, it was a really good story, and I like the city of Boston.  Haven't read Grand Jete yet.

I would recommend them in this order

1. Conversations Between Adults
2. Clair De Lune
3. Cullen Ballet Academy

It was! At the Roundhouse in Camden, have you been there? It's a great not to large venue so you can get real close and personal I was right by the barrier, I did meet and greet (power of the press pass!)too but got there so late I only met Matthew, well I say 'only' but I was very happy to meet Matthew.  :D But you can't have a Followill manwich with only one Followill!
I went to the Roundhouse a few years ago with my Best Gay to see Adele (she had just released 19) and I totally agree with you about it being a great venue for smaller gigs.
It reminds me of the Ally Pally where my and my BG went to see KOL when they had just released  Youth & Young Manhood, so not many peeps knew too many songs but there was us belting out each song and in the end Michael did a shout out to us.  :)

Thank you. I'm slowly, slowly getting better. I'm still on horrible meal replacement shakes and can't handle solid food - I tried again on Friday night and it was a spectacular failure!

I had an allergic reaction to the medication I started - crazy mad itching, rash, puffy eyes, swollen throat - but the new stuff seems to be ok. My doctor said that I seem to be "hyper allergic" so am reacting to everything, even things that have never been a problem.

At least I know that there is nothing life-threatening. My imagination got the worst of me last weekend as I was waiting for test results, and combined with feeling as lousy as I was, I was not in a good place.

Anywho...
Aww hun - hope you feel better soon.  :-* :-*

This is the problem with children - they grow!

My solution is - stop feeding them! You save money on groceries and they don't outgrow their clothes.

See - I'd be a perfect mother!  ;)
Lol, that's a great idea hun - why didn't I think of that, I could've saved myself a ton of money over the years.  :P :D

I haven't, but I really loved the fic version of this one.

Really!

Good morning indeed!  >:D

I discovered a new little trick on the weekend.

If you go to google, and then into google images, in the search bar there is a picture of a little camera.

Click on that, paste in the url of a picture and google searches for that image.

From that I discovered that, not only is he Aaron Diaz (which you already know now) but it gave me his twitter account, his bio, tumblr, pretty much everything.

He models and he acts - apparently sans clothing.

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

And he sings!
