  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

Who cares! Look at his pecks! He doesn't need a name with a body like that; and yes, I am objectifying him  :D :D :D Where did you find him...

It'll give you that, I promise, the story sometimes falls flat at time Bella is no Julia Roberts but it's worth a read if only for Jacob alone...Wow! Never thought I'd see the day :o

Facebook.  I belong to a group that has no problems in objectifying certain men  >:D  What about checking this out then.

This latest update has some cute brother/sister moments between Rosalie and Edward.

High school Edward likes a girl named Bella, But he's not a smooth-talking kind of fella. He has his fair share of inserting foot into mouth, And inappropriate risings down south. But he's really kind of sweet, Even if he's sort of a geek.

Here's the p2p versions with Agnes and Ian. (Not a big fan of either of those names but the story is great). Of course, the first review is so ridiculously mean and sounds vindictive.

I always wonder if those people who "hate" P2P fanfiction ever read the story before they spew their nasty comments.  That said, one of the writers I beta for asked for my opinion on her story.  My reply was that it was a really good fanfiction, but would not be a good published story because it was too wordy.  And unfortunately, I don't have enough writing ability to really fix it.  But that if she was interested in publishing it, it would have to be reworked.  The basis was good and there was a good mystery involved.  but she went into the day to day stuff too much.

So, if a fanfiction writer pulls to publish without rewriting it, I tend to agree, it probably won't be a great story.  We are very forgiving in order to get our fix.  Just like MoTU.  I loved MoTU, but really? FSoG should have been one book with a bunch of stuff cut out. It was not a series of stories.  So it should not have been a series of books. And? I haven't really read any other P2P stories, so I don't know if there are any good ones.....

But this is my opinion.  Fanfiction stories, other than their characters, are usually original works.  So the writer has every right to pull to publish after changing the stuff that makes it a fanfiction.   And I get a little annoyed with the readers who think it can't be a good story just because it was once fanfiction....

*steps off soapbox*  Thanks for letting me rant!  :-*

 :iagree: :You_Rock_Emoticon:

I've read several fanfics where I thought that author should think about publishing.

Or better, think about writing her own stuff and publish that, because when they write canon Twilight? The story can be amazing but isn't publishable. But the writing is oh-so-good.

:iagree: The FF stories that I've read that have stayed with me, that I give a 5* too, are as close to Twilight as chalk is to cheese, take out the names and no one would know they were FF..Sleepers is a good case in point, where in that story is there any similarity to SM's characters? Apart from their names...

Everyone is half of a whole, and on the day of your sixteenth birthday you find your other half, and your life changes dramatically after that. I would love to give the genius that came up with that idea a piece of my mind . . . AU. Edward x Bella. High School. Mature Language and eventual Lemons. Drabble.

Anyone reading this?
I'm on chapter 8 and it's a Drabble.
I like the concept tho, I forgot the author who wrote about this before My Mate ( princess Rachel?), she is writing Heat now.

About humans mating. That would be nice, no rejections, no cheating. Lol.

Good morning indeed!  >:D

I discovered a new little trick on the weekend.

If you go to google, and then into google images, in the search bar there is a picture of a little camera.

Click on that, paste in the url of a picture and google searches for that image.

From that I discovered that, not only is he Aaron Diaz (which you already know now) but it gave me his twitter account, his bio, tumblr, pretty much everything.

He models and he acts - apparently sans clothing.

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

And he sings!

I waffle on my own stance on P2P all the damn time. On the one hand, I can't see paying for something I can get for free. I also am not thrilled with the idea of authors making money off of someone else's characters, tropes, and fans. However, if *I* could write something and actually get people to pay me money for it, I totally would, and laugh all the way to the bank. Maybe that makes me a hypocrite? That I would try to sell something I'm not willing to pay for myself?

I do shelve books as P2P, but I don't rate them without reading them, and I don't stick that huge sticker thing on them. As for buying, I'd have to be convinced that more was changed than just names, locations, and descriptions. I want to know I'm paying for a quality, edited product, that I can't get pretty much identical, for free, here.

LOL! I don't say you have to buy them, just that we shouldn't look down on the stories just because they were originally fanfics.  Some are so non-canon, it doesn't take much to change them to a real fic.  And if these other readers don't like fanfic then they should pay.

And if I really like the writer, I don't mind supporting them a bit, as long as the price is reasonable.  I'm not poor so I feel it's only fair.  ;)

Besides I've saved a fortune on books in the last few years.  :D :D :D :D

Haha, I AM poor, so every book counts! :D And I'd never look down on something just because it was fic, some of my favorite stories are fics.

What I wonder is why no one gets as angry over stuff that's P2P from other fandoms. I know of at least one M/M that was Brokeback Mountain fic originally, and while it gets pointed out, no one really seems to care.

It's because this fandom can be a little crazy - you know, just a tad  ;)

And when you broaden that fandom to include the shippers and the Robstens, etc - well, we're in batshit territory!

I've been thinking about this P2P thing - I don't have any issue with it, so long as the writing is good.

I'm thinking I have more of an issue with people who write original fic, and then change it to twific in order to cash in on a built-in fan base and to get noticed in the writing/publishing world.

You know what else I don't like?

(I'm on a ranty roll this morning - I'm stuck in a meeting and typing here makes it look like I'm taking notes  ;))

I don't like going to the effort of answering questions and responding to requests on ADF and then not even getting a thank you!

So...well done, Mr.Admin for inventing the Thanks button!  :sign0098:

Needy people like me appreciate it!  :-*

I so rarely go to GR that I was kind of shocked just now reading through some of the comments people made regarding the book. What hate! And for some it's only because it was a fanfic previously?! Get over it. And it really drives me nutty when people rate a book they haven't read (films too BTW) and say as much in their review. Exactly how is that a review? This is a good reason for me to stay away and find comfort here at PTS.

Exactly.  If the book's good it's good.  Get over it.   :)

Never read the published version but I really liked the ff!  Betty Smith is a great author.  She must be in politics, everything is s realistic with her writing.
