  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

Mmmm? Maybe not real life, I get that, but I do want to be 'moved' in some way and 99.9% of the time sugary sweetness, skipping through the f**king meadow (God! I hate that goddamn meadow!) just doesn't cut it. Plus, I think I'm weird, I actually felt that Sleepers was an HEA just in a unpredictable, non-cliché (canon) way.
LOL! And though I love sugary sweetness with a bit of spice added in?  I totally get your need to have an emotional connection to a story.  I will read stories like that on occasion.  But mostly I read stuff that makes me happy.  Because for some reason? Doctors won't give me anti-depressants because I don't look depressed.   :P

Finally finished Sleepers, I don't think I used so much tissue since Dusty. Loved it! Would recommend it whole heartedly but with the caveat that if you don't like mystical magical films like Pan's Labyrinth this might not be the fic for you...I remember thinking while reading that it reminded me very much of Del Toro's film and in the final AN she admitted it was one of her inspirations. It is not 'pat' it is not 'simple' or easy and you have to work pretty hard, in a way, to get to and keep a hold of what is going on, there were times when it (the plot) would literally slip through my fingers, I'd think. 'Oh, I get it!" read a few pages and think. 'Huh?'  I almost didn't read the outtakes as I felt it finished beautifully as it was, but after a while I gave in to convention and looked for 'closure'; I'm kind of disappointed in myself for doing so. 4*

Finished Sleepers and LOVED it.  What a lovely, heartbreaking story.

I wish it hasn't been James though because we all know he's never a nice guy.  With just his naming I knew where the story was going.  It'd be a great story as a non ff reader since the name wouldn't give anything away.

Going to keep the ending as is in my head for a bit before I read the outtakes.

I'm right there with you, Ella.  :-*

What I read reflects my overall mood.  So a very angsty story has to wait for a time when I'm really alone and have enough time to read it all through and think about it after. I often have to work to get out of a bad mood after a good but angsty, dramatic story.

I'm a pretty emotional person anyways  ^-^

When I read something funny, lighter? My kids are happy, because I'm in a great mood  ;)

Thank you all for your recs!  :-*

I put them on my TBR, but the Vampward stories will have to wait a bit, I'm more in an AH or non canon mood atm.

I finished Dream A Little Dream  by the.littlest.ingenue some days ago. Very funny, very sweet, very awwwwww
Should be in the index.

There are several stories that I'm glad I read the published version.

Poughkeepsie for example. It was a great story, I loved the book but I think I would have hated it as a fanfic. Many characters were so ooc and I wouldn't have liked that. So, even if it was pretty obvious who was who in the fanfic, I could pretend that they were different characters and enjoy the story. Same with The Live-In Position. There I actually had to look up the fanfic version to know who was supposed to be who in Twilight world...

So, Sleepers is pulled, right? Is it published already?

Hello Ladies.. :-*

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.  Alot to catch up on but I will give it a shot.

Astro - hope you feel better soon.  I also want to say thank you to you Astro
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Anchalee - I am right there with you.

People on some of these sites can be real cruel.  Amazing how they seem to do it when they are hiding behind a computer screen.  That is why I love you girls,  just so easy and fun to be with.  :-*

I read some this past week,

Superhero in the stacks.- LOVED  Definately not long enough
Indecent Proposal - LOVED - was so happy to see a non cannon Tanya
All the wild horses - It was good,  a quick read
Sideline Collision  - I actually enjoyed this one
accidentally in love - enjoyed this story

Now to find my next story.  I am thinking of going with Pinky Promises?  Is is bad that I have had no desire to go back and finish reading High Fidelity or the Cullen Legacy.  Not sure why the stories are just not grabbing me.  :o

Here's the p2p versions with Agnes and Ian. (Not a big fan of either of those names but the story is great). Of course, the first review is so ridiculously mean and sounds vindictive.

Pinky Promise or Pinky Swear? I read Pinky Swear last weekend, I think, and loved it. Really, really funny Jacob and it's based on the film My Best Friend's Wedding, I laughed a lot! High Fidelity I loved, The Cullen Legacy not so much...It was OK but not a fav. Who wrote Pinky Promise

I know, drabbles make me grit my teeth but if the author is really good and she is, I'll suffer in silence -  sort of.   ;)

I so rarely go to GR that I was kind of shocked just now reading through some of the comments people made regarding the book. What hate! And for some it's only because it was a fanfic previously?! Get over it. And it really drives me nutty when people rate a book they haven't read (films too BTW) and say as much in their review. Exactly how is that a review? This is a good reason for me to stay away and find comfort here at PTS.

Question: Has anyone read the published version of Gentleman from Washington State? I'm trying decide whether to read the FF or the RL book. Thanks!

Is the sequel new material or a carry on...from material left off of the FF? I'm intrigued now to read the FF version if that's the case.
