  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

Did you find Poughkeepsie?

I FLOVED that fic.  It was one of the earlier fanfictions I read and the story was so different from anything I'd read before.

I did find it, though I have already read it as a RB...But since there is talk of a sequel I wondered if there was more material in the FF.

It's because this fandom can be a little crazy - you know, just a tad  ;)

And when you broaden that fandom to include the shippers and the Robstens, etc - well, we're in batshit territory!

I've been thinking about this P2P thing - I don't have any issue with it, so long as the writing is good.

I'm thinking I have more of an issue with people who write original fic, and then change it to twific in order to cash in on a built-in fan base and to get noticed in the writing/publishing world.

A little crazy?! Sh!t, I've never been in any other Fandom but some of the people in Twifdom should be institutionalized! How the F can you get so worked up over fiction and the Robstens? All I can say is, 'get a life...' And can someone tell me, what are 'shippers'?

And as far as P2P, I couldn't care less as long as they leave the fic in place so I have the choice...I do have to admit that I whisper the fact that I've read Twilight... :P

OF to twific is slightly shady, if all you're doing it for is to get free editing services etc..

There's always Grand Jete by Stella Luna Skye. (Did I get the author right?)

Great story.

This was one of the first FF that I read and I floved it! I'll have to check out the other recs...

In the 152 thread we just talked about another P2P fic:

Half Truths and Full Circles by Admittedly Obsessed (posted here:  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login)

Summary:  Bella lives next to Alice and Jasper Whitlock in Port Angeles. When Alice leaves Bella a message: "Please take care of the delivery I'm expecting at my door," Bella expects a package ... and finds Edward, asleep, in a knee brace, and hiding a secret past.

and published as

"Between the Lines" by Alison Oburia.

It was pulled as a WIP... I read it not knowing that and was left right in the middle of a great but very thrilling part...  >:(

That book I will read soon!  :)

I have the ebook, not yet read it though...Not sure whether I should read the fic and then carry on with the book once I get to the end of where it got pulled...I did that with Living position though I do have to admit I didn't realise it was pulled til I came to a screeching halt during reading....came on here ranting (as per) and Ella calmed me down (as per) and pointed me to the RB.. :D

Astro,

I agree I am enjoying the new FF website.  Just hope there is a way to download from there if I need to.  Maybe it will be supported by flag soon enough, Hmmm gotta try Calibre

  I love jayhawkbb's stories!

Me too.  I really like Quarterback Sneak.  Edward is a sweetie in this fic.  Bella is bitchy, but I think she's funny.

As a Seattle sports talk radio host, it's my job to give my opinion on the Seahawks new quarterback, Edward Cullen. But maybe I shouldn't have said what I did...you know, about his butt. E/B Rated M for language and adult content.

Wait! People write OF and then post it as a fic????
I need names!!

 :o :o

Maren Smith first posted the Light Bearer on TWCS after she had been plagerised.  She wrote that if people were posting her work as their own, she might as well try posting herself. I thought that was fair enough.  She then ptp (always her intention), the story (excellent by the way) is now published as Incubus Moon by Penny Allen.

I didn't know that "shipper" was short for worshipper.  I know in fan fiction, the term "ship/shipping" refers to relationship.   Too many terms in the ever evolving world of fanficdom!

Oops, guess my religious beliefs have clouded my definition. It was close/similar but not exactly accurate  :P

The Urban Dictionary says:
1.    Shipper
The term "shipper" comes from supporting a ship. To ship something means a person wants two characters to get together and/or shows support for two characters already together. The term "ship" came from the X-Files fandom, when fanfics were written about Mulder and Scully. The fans then called themselves shippers. It quickly spread and is now the title a person gives themself if they believe two charcters should or will be together (The characters can be from anything: Books, Movies, Television, Video Games, and even Actors/Actresses). It is not limited to the couple actually happening, a person can ship something just because they enjoy the possibility of them getting together or even just because they think they would look good together.
I am a Harry/Hermione shipper in the Harry Potter fandom.

I loved the books, but they are so well written, I can't see how fanfiction can improve upon them.  Also, I'm really not into M/M and most of the fanfics in HP seem to be Harry & Malfoy.   :P

I used to mumble 'grow-up' under my breath every time I saw an adult reading them on the tube (in my defence I hadn't *whisper* read Twilight then) ...:D God! How obnoxious am I?! Hit me...:D I took my godchildren to the first few HP films (where I promptly fell asleep) but thankfully they soon grew old enough to go with their school friends,  I really breathed a sigh of relief on that one...which I didn't when they stopped wanting me to take them to a new Disney film  :(

A really, really good children's series is Philip Pullman's Dark Material; I read those to my little gods in between HP Books and, well, there is no comparison in the standard of the writing so...yeah, I think that's where my disdain came from.

EDIT: I have to change my categorisation of Dark Material being a 'children's series' its not it so brilliantly done I'd recommend it to adults whole heartedly..

I love Balenciaga, I love their clothes and shoes and handbags...but I always thought that the model a brand uses for a campaign would be someone aspirational, someone you'd look at and say.."Ahhh, to be her.." blind-siding the audience into buying a product. Has anyone seen Kstews' Balenciaga perfume ad. Even if I didn't already have a fragrance I use religiously and was in the market for a new one, this picture of her, which I think is meant to make her look sexy, but actually looks like she's giving you a dirty look wouldn't do it  :D :D :D She has amazing artist representation, that's all I can say; however much she's paying them? It ain't enough!

Where are you looking for HP fics?  There is slash of course but there are whole sites deciated to Hermione and someone other than Ron, even FF has 1000s of non slash HP fics.  I can honestly say some of the best fics I have read have been from the HP fandom.

The improvements to HP as far as I am concerned, centre around Hermione finding a better partner than Ron  :P and Snape getting a better deal but since the world of fanfiction can present wonderful AU stories, there is always something different to read.

I am one of those people that was never able to get into Harry Potter.  :(

The thing with HP is the first two books are written for children and it shows, by the time you reach the 4th book (my fav) the whole thing becomes darker and more intense, appealing to the older reader.  Anyway, how can you not enjoy witches, wizard's and magic?  :)
