This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general. But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

A really, really good children's series is Philip Pullman's Dark Material; I read those to my little gods in between HP Books and, well, there is no comparison in the standard of the writing so...yeah, I think that's where my disdain came from.

EDIT: I have to change my categorisation of Dark Material being a 'children's series' its not it so brilliantly done I'd recommend it to adults whole heartedly..

I also really loved the His Dark Materials series! I need to go look to see if there was ever anything written past Lyra's Oxford.

Oh and I loved the Harry Potter books but can't even imagine reading fanfic about them... they're nearly sacred in my mind so I can't imagine the stories being changed in any way. Much less slash!

Does anyone else ever have a problem with the Calibre FF plugin getting the most up to date version of a story?

I got an email from twiwrite saying that a fic had an update, and I go to update it, but it's not getting the newest chapter, it says no updates are needed. It's not getting the last chapter.

So I switched off my fanfic library to my books library and pasted in the URL, and it got the most up to date version of the fic, WTH am I doing wrong?

It's been doing that for a while now.

You can't go wrong with any of those. The first 3 have more angst. Comp Sem 101 is pretty light. Last Tango has lots of sex. There is a Light has quite a bit of angst, but is beautifully written.

You'll be fine. Last Tango is one of my favorites. I read it early on in my ff reading, but it has retained a place in my heart. If you're one of these jaded readers who skim the sex scenes, then don't bother though, because there is a lot of sex. But there's also a good story.

I've been having problems with getting updates on everything but FFnet and TWCS lately. Since most are duplicate stories, I haven't been worrying about it.
