Do you know I've never read a  Nicholas Sparks' novel? Does that mean I have to hand in my I Have A Vagina membership card? If I wanted to finally dip my big toes which book would anyone who has read him suggest I start with?
I guess I need to hand in my card too.  :-X

Congrats Loopy!!!

Loopy is 30-31 [emoji1]
I was right!
I was thinking 31 because my oldest sister is 31 and her oldest son is 18 she had him at 16, so I figured you were young

Don't anybody throw anything at me - but I have read maybe 5 Nicholas Sparks books.  Whoever on the last page said that he wrote love stories and not romances is correct.  There is no HEA in most of his books.  I  absolutely hated Dear John.   I hated both characters - her because she dumped him to marry someone else who developed cancer and him because he was stupid and sold off his father's coin collection so that she could afford the cancer treatments so the hubby could live.  John went back to serve in Irag - no happy ending here.   I've read The Wedding and two others - titles at this point I can't remember.  One takes place on the outer banks of North Carolina in a hurricane - female character is stuck her family cottage.  The other was about a guy whose wife was in a car accident and in a coma and he was caring for the kids.  I've never read Message In A Bottle - if it weren't for the fact that Sparks wrote it I would.  Kevin Costner directed and starred in the movie.  I saw the last five minutes accidently one day when I was switching channels - cried the whole five minutes it was so sad.  There was no happy ending here either.  demaris - avoid him - you'll end up hating yourself if you try reading him - I'm a slow learner which is why I made it through 4 (or 5?) books.  I should have learned my lesson with Dear John and stopped while I was behind.

I've watched Message in a Bottle, and A Walk To Remember. I did enjoy AWtR, it was a very sweet movie, but then the girl dies. But you knew all along it was gonna happen, still, it was heartbreaking. Books hit me harder than movies do usually though, so I never tried the book. Every time I see a new NS movie coming out, I always look up the book's reviews on GR, and they NEVER have a happy ending! I have enough stress in my life, books are my happy place. I don't mind weeping to get to the HEA, but I wants my HEA.

Um, I have never read Nicolas Sparks either. Or watched a movie of his.  So I guess I should turn my vajayjay card in also.  :D :D :D :D

Can't help you there.  I haven't read any either.  I watched The Notebook under duress, but James Garner was in it and I do love him.

I've never read a Sparks either, but I have watched enough of his movies to know I don't like those, either. Someone always dies. I don't know who decided he wrote romance, he doesn't. Love stories, yes, but romance, no, because romance requires that HEA. I don't mind angst through a story, so long as I get that HEA ending!

as you can see, you are not alone. though i wouldn't go to the extent of handing out my Vagina membership card, I don't want to grow a dick nor walk around with balls hanging between my thighs! [emoji13][emoji12]

I don't read sparks, coehllo and similar sappy, sad, deep sh*t like that. fluff and no brain matter needed is what i prefer. i read to escape and not add the horrors of others to my life [emoji13]

this is why I don't watch dramas but if one has a great review/story/actors/oscar nomination, i might give it a try.

i have only watched A Walk to Remember and The Notebook from the sparks movie roster. I really rec The Notebook, worth the cry! [emoji6]

i like efron, duhamel and tatum but haven't bothered to watch their sparks movie though [emoji19] would rather watch The Expendables over these dramas [emoji12]

Wow! Here I thought at least Booked would have read a couple (I know you love a sappy romance  :P).....but I didn't realise that he didn't write HEA....I'm definitely going to read something of his now  :D. I've seen The Notebook, its been on TV a ton of times but that is because I  :sparklyheart: Ryan Goslin!

Ruth, I have no idea what you wrote and I saw the length of your post and assumed you've given away the plot of half a dozen stories so....fast-scrolled past it  8)

When my husband first bought me my ereader, he loaded it with a bunch of Nicholas Sparks books, because apparently women are supposed to like them, I haven't read any of them.  I have seen A Walk to Remember and The Notebook, and some other one I watched on a plane sometime, but I didn't know they all ended similarly sad.

Demaris - I found the name of the Sparks that takes place during a hurricane in North Carolina.  Try Nights In Rodanthe.  Do not - I repeat - do not read Dear John.  Its an entirely useless book.

  • Life is all about balance.
Loopy - CONGRATS!! You and your family must be very excited for the new grandchild to come. I had my first son when I was 17, so I can relate.

I haven't ready any Nicolas Sparks, in fact I have never heard of him, so I guess I need to turn in my card too.  I have to have an HEA, and from what I have heard he doesn't really give an HEA, so I won't be putting anything of his on the ever growing TBR list.
