Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

I really have to shake my head at people sometimes. I was over on the 152nd Thread, and one of the posts said:

"Edward proposed to Bella in a bridge."

I'm just thinking that that was really uncomfortable, or the story they're looking for is a syfy one where Edward can take people and walk through walls made of anything, just stopping right in the middle of steel/brick/what-have-you.

And Demaris, Ruth is right. You don't have to keep re-reading the series from the beginning ever 5-7 months. Just nit-pick. I do that. I get to thinking about a particular part of a story and go back and read that part. Course, I usually end up reading all the way through to the end from that part, but..... oh well.

I do that a lot with fanfiction and other books, too.

Errrr? Yeah, there has been a bit of a misunderstanding somewhere.....re-read the series from the beginning every 5-7 months?! What am I? Nuts! What I meant by 'yearly book cycle' is waiting for a new book to trickle out. I like to read Completes, whether it's a book series or a fanfiction.  :P  And I'm too an@l to read a series out of order...I wish I could because once started I then have to see it through to the end, and the amount of shit *coughRockChickcough* I've had to plough through ain't even funny.... :'(

...one of the books I read even had the playlist at the beginning. Is it just me is that too descriptive? These authors are also the kind that will spend an entire paragraph detailing the outfits of their characters. I really don't care what brand of shoes they're wearing or the cut of their dress!

I don't mind a playlist at the beginning or end of a book, I love music as much as I do books and I'm always happy to discover new stuff but I don't need to know every lyric of every song that might have inspired you. Again I shall bring in Ms Hoover, her use of The Avett Brothers in Slammed was just right...

And late response, the character from the Colleen Hoover novel that people were using as an example of on when boys are scary and you should be running for your life, was Dean Holder from Hopeless. I didn't get the creepy vibe from him, except for when he followed her out to the parking lot and asked who she was. Obviously she was unsettled, but he later apologized and explained himself.  Then goes on to think about what a creep he probably seemed like in the book with his point of view, Losing Hope.
WHAT!?! How can anyone call Holder creepy, he's absolutely adorable.
Even the first time he meets Sky he doesn't come across as scary or weird or anything like that, just someone who recognises her from the past.
Unless I totally mis-understood the whole book and fell in love with a weirdo (wouldn't be the first time  :P).  :D :D

Going along the lines of Cattybratty's find of Edward and Bella meeting in a bridge, comes the following which I just found on Twilighted under Find A Fic:

Has anyone ever read a fic where Bella is crunchy? Breastfeeding, babywearing, cloth diapering, organic eating, attachment parenting, etc? If so, please post a link

Anyone care to interpret?

Lol, I totally get what you mean, but it's one of the WIPs that I have to read whenever there's an update.  ;D :D
There's so much more that needs to happen before it can get to a realistic ending and for the future take she did about Wisp and Edward to come true (which I really hope it does)  ;D

I'll be honest, I am holding off for another update or two before I dive back in.  It had been making good progress, but I think the direction it is going in will make me crazy if there aren't regular updates.

I like the story, but I am starting to wonder where it is going.

I'd have to take your word for it as I've not even started it! And this is the kind of fic which keeps my WIP phobia firmly in place.

That's probably a good idea hun, I had to re-read the chapter before to refresh my memory.
I'm glad I'm reading it as a WIP though as some of the chapters are definitely just fillers and read complete, I'm sure some peeps would get bored at some point.  :(

Read it hun - it's like Dusty 2.0 if you get what I mean, it's the same story just better (didn't think it was possible, but it's true)  :)
But that's just my opinion. I have to agree though about the names - I don't mind Bliss' as it's not one you find every book etc these days but Dusty's hell no one of my Brothers and one of my Brother in-laws is called Thomas so it's just not got the same appeal.  :D :D

I'm deep in Youth Without Age so unfortunately I can't read it yet...   Then after this I'm going to have to read something as a palate cleanser before devouring Dusty again!  I have to mentally prepare myself for the journey.

Sounds like modern hippie.

Apart from the organic eating, that's me!  :D (well, it was as long as the kids were small enough for that...  :D)

I don't know what is meant with crunchy...

And this post is not from me (I'm not on Twilighted, they never accepted me...) but I also realized that this is not very common for Bella. Since I was mod for an AP/Breastfeeding/Babywearing etc forum for a long long time, I also always look for more "natural" births (there was a beautiful homebirth in a Wolfpack fic, they seem to fit here more often...) and baby caring.

When 2oldforfanfic wrote Tequila Sunrise, I begged her to give Bella a babycarrier, I think she followed through  :) and when coldplaywhore wrote her A Life Aquatic, I also begged her for a Babywearing Daddyward (because I think a man with a baby in a wrap or sling is soooo gorgeous) and she gave him a Babybjorn (yes, I lectured her about that poor choice...  ^-^)

My babies lived on my back or in the sling in front of me for their first year and it made living so much easier... so when I read a fic with a Bella and babies and some stressing situations, I often call at my kindle: "Give that poor girl a wrap!"  ^-^ :D

In Mailorder Bride (or the sequel?) Bella learns from their Mexican cook how to use a sling, I loved that!  :)

  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
LOL! Maybe "crunchy" is an auto correct error. Or a translation error. I always forget that a lot of Twific readers have another primary language. ;)

I always wished I could speak/read a second language. :(

What do you think about Youth? I floved that fic (in my top 10 without doubt, maybe even top 5), it is so clever and beautifully dense, meaty, do you know what I mean? And the back stories are....just fantastic.

Crunchy: from Urban Dictionary:

Adjective. Used to describe persons who have adjusted or altered their lifestyle for environmental reasons. Crunchy persons tend to be politically strongly left-leaning and may be additionally but not exclusively categorized as vegetarians, vegans, eco-tarians, conservationists, environmentalists, neo-hippies, tree huggers, nature enthusiasts, etc.

Also used to describe establishments where alternative foods and products are sold, i.e. natural food stores.

Modified derivative of granola.
"I need more crunchy guys in my life. I'm so tired of dating preppy metrosexual assholes."

Like I said, modern day hippie. :D
"I'm heading out to the crunchy store to pick up some fair trade chocolate and tea tree oil, do you need anything?"

You'll all be happy to know now that Crunchy has been defined, I went back to Find A Fic and recommended that Twilightjoy read A Silver Lining by Kimpy.   I'm not sure she's ready for a 50 plus year old Bella but she wanted Crunchy and Crunchy she'll get.
