I have finally finished the Outlander series (well, until she writes book 9) it took me 3 weeks to the day to read all 8 book (OK I sneaked in a couple of fics when no one was looking  :D), Jesus! They were bloody long! Plus the Lord John series and his novellas ( which I could have done without)
Ok, so now that you've finished it...  which series do you like better?  TBH or Outlander? ;-) (Answer carefully!)

WOW FFG, I feel the same way.  I am planning on taking a weekend vacation.  Just me myself and I, a bottle of wine, hotel room, bubble bath and my Kindle.  No phone, no TV.
A solo vacation sounds like heaven to me!  My husband and I are both very much ok with us each having alone time, but once we had our daughter that all changed.    I'm very rarely by myself anymore.   :o   The idea of staying in a hotel with just my kindle and no interruptions sounds delightful!

Ahhh... So it's not a Twific?
Not a fic...  Unteachable is by Leah Raeder and it is really good.  I highly recommend you read it since you have an appreciation for "pretty words".  And if I remember correctly there is a good bit of angst too.

Reading things~

Pretty sure I flounced Age of Consent back in the day. I like the writing, but the author is always super descriptive and I feel like she takes forever to get to the point. I was also a little creeped out. That Bella is all about seducing Edward, and Edward is in his late 20's and I just don't know what he's doing being such a grody perv. Plus it's just so long and wordy. I remember reading another fic she wrote, Brown Study, I think..and I read the whole thing but didn't really understand what I just read. I finished and just wondered what the point was. That honestly doesn't happen often.

REAL books!

I stayed up reading the Songs of Submission series by CD Reiss last week. I don't know if I liked them as much as the author is really good about leaving out crucial details that made you want to keep reading. So I did. Until 6am. I had to be at work by 10, and my boss THANKFULLY told me she was busy and didn't need me for the day. So that binge was worth it.

Huge random surprise, Addicted to You by Bethany Kane was pretty raunchy as well and had some beautiful dirty talk by a drunk Irishman. Now I'm comparing everything else I read to it. They seem tame in comparison.

Got the new Susan Elizabeth Phillips book, Heroes Are My Weakness. I enjoyed it, but the heroine is a bit of a loon. She's a ventriloquist and not only are you reading her dialogue, but the damn puppets too. Really cheesy.

I just finished Arouse by Nina Lane. Found it under "Best Dirty Talking" on Goodreads. It's highly rated, but I thought it was a little boring. I made the mistake of reading the synopsis of the two books that follow, and think that I've read enough of these characters drama.
Yep, the thing about Age of Consent is he is 26 (a lawyer) and she is in high school and is only 16.    I can't put my finger on it, but something about it just gives me the creepy vibe (of course, I'm still reading it LOL).   The way he refers to her as a little girl or maybe its his descriptions of her that seem off.   I'm not sure, but I'm going to wait til the end to make a decision about it.

I've been wanting to read Songs of Submission... do I remember correctly that it's about a couple that have been married for a while?    Addicted to You sounds good just because of the dirty talkin' Irishman! ;-)     I've also got Arouse on my kindle, too bad it's boring!

lol most of these authors at least try to get away with the age difference by making Bella at least 18. Then it's still creepy, but legal. Reading about someone my age trying to get it on with a teenager just squicks me outtt. I CAN understand the allure from a teenage girls perspective with the whole hot older man that is sooo mature and has more life experience, then I try to relate to someone that's 26 and attracted to a baby?! NOPE. I did actually read Unteachable and almost finished, until I got to the big reveal~ and learned how creepy that dude was too. Said bye and didn't waste any more time.

Songs of Submission featured a struggling musician and a hotel billionaire. I'm really tired of all these BDSM stories, but I keep reading them! Mostly they just grate my nerves because it's always the dude that implies that the heroine is weak and naturally submissive~ and she doesn't know what she's missing out on, and he's right there to open the sexual gates of pleasure for her to take her to depths of ecstasy that she's never known!!! In Songs of Submission, the heroine is very strong willed and doesn't take any shit from the hero. She's constantly thinking about what submitting implies, and has no problems letting the hero know that's she's in charge of herself and that act would be a gift to him.

I just flounced another book and got a refund. The Pleasures of Winter by Evie Hunter. This is one of the books I'm talking about, where the hero goes out of his way to let the heroine know that she would make a great submissive. I felt like this heroine was extremely unaware of things for a character that is in her late 20's and a reporter on top of that. I felt like her voice was closer to a teenagers, and not a grown woman.

Arouse had so much promise! I always get excited when I see that there's a series of books, so I have a lot to read. But when the stories don't turn out so well, I see that it's mostly due to the author dragging out all the drama. Someone on GoodReads compared the heroine and hero in Arouse to Disney characters with adult drama and I can totally see it. Take your picture perfect married couple and throw in a dash of drama that escalates into this huuuge issue, and then add two more books to make sure you have enough space for all that drama! Ugh.

So far nothing is comparing to Addicted to You from this list and it was only a stand alone :( (edit: i should probaby clarify that i'm on the hunt for books that are raunchy with a plot that isn't cheeseball city, which is almost half of the things on there)

Please don't upload any stories on this thread.  Any uploads belong on the 152 thread.  Also, if it's on the Index, it is uploaded to the site.  I ask that you report any Index errors to me so I can fix them.  I'm human, so I make mistakes, but I can't fix them if I don't know about them.  Thanks.

I will look through my materials and find the link for you and fix the Index.

I don't mind the age gap as long as Bella is already legal or at least 18. I also get eeked out if she is just 16. It's been so long but i think she was 17 turning on 18 in the (yet to be finished  >:() Me and Mr. cullen. I was fine with that but a bit squeamish bec she was just going to start her senior year in HS when she got married.

C.D. Reiss' series was just ok for me. Think i have that series 3 stars so that's means it was just ok, not a waste of time to read but no need for you to rush and read it.

Will move up Addicted to you, thanks for the rec.

I finished the MC Sinners series of Bella Jewel
J.s. scott's Billionaire Unmasked
Both 4 stars for me.

Change of pace, finally got to start reading Anna and the French Kiss as i remembered it after she recently released the 3rd book. My daughter tells me these are stand alones so i either finish the 3 or jump to Addicted after this. Am in chapter 9 now and finding it very funny and good. Though am craving to read lemons...but then i realize my 15 yr old has read these so am hoping it doesn't get too graphic and fades to black.  :P

I think they are tied to be honest....Teh story telling of both stories is superb but I think I love Jamie Fraser more than Alexander Belov, maybe...God, pleases don't tell me I have to go back and read TBH!

I'm looking for a couple of amuse-bouches to read to cleanse my palate and kick me out of my post-Outlander funk, I'll read Unteachable next; after that I'm starting Dorothy Dunnett's The Lymond Chronicles (God save me.....)

I'm going to go up to Edinburgh for a few days next week (before the referendum) on my own for a few day and so looking forward to it. The minute I say 'holiday' at least three of my girlfriends will say "oh! When and where?!' I haven't been away by myself for ages...so I'm sneaking away and not telling anyone!    :D

Lol, that's a great idea before they start banning English and Welsh peeps (I'm sure they're tempted to do this).  :D :D :D
I love Edinburgh, it was the only reason why I used to hook up with a guy from there as he would invite me up there for the odd weekend and I used it to get away while my daughter was with her Dad.

Talking of my daughter I realised I've totally lost my marbles as I thought yesterday was only the 2nd September which meant she had 12 days til her 16th, but it turns out we're already on the 5th September which means there's only 9 days til her birthday and I've still gotta buy her something.  :-[ :-[ :-[ :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:  ^-^ ^-^

Damnnn. It looks like the author of Unteachable left a really critical review of DeBartolo's second novel, How To Kill A Rockstar. There's spoilers in the review incase you haven't read the book. I just enjoyed her critique and clicked the account to her page and had a moment "Hey! I know this author I just flounced her book!"

I'm not even going near A God Shaped Hole. Which reminds me, are there any books/stories you have read that left you with a nasty feeling months after reading? It wrapped up, but  I randomly remembered the twific The Consequence of Miracles, and it was like a punch in the gut. Just thinking about it put me in a bad mood and I had to go read some fluff.

am sorry Loopy and Demaris, but i just got to say that i like watching the audition part of American Idol. First time i saw The X Factor UK was this morning and it was hilarious. What was showing on cable was season 11 with Simon, Mel B, Cheryl Cole and some old guy i don't know. I get a good laugh watching people think they could sing but are simply horrible at it. I love those that look so weird, shy or unassuming but out comes this awesome voice, it's amazing! My kids and hubby were right with me, laughing then being amazed then laughing again.

I no longer stick around for the actual competition, used to before, til the finale of AI. But after some not so good seasons the past few years, just stopped watching once they are down to the final 20.

Had a fun saturday morning lazing around and laughing with the fam though  :)

Now on to finish the last 100 pages of Anna and the French kiss...boy, am missing the lemons right now so it is highly likely i will switch to an adult book after this one.

Edit: AatFK was very good. Very tame. Still like Colleen Hoover better when it comes to writing YA with no lemons.  :)

The auditions for last season's American Idol I enjoyed and they did things a little bit differently this time around.  Harry Connick has really added to it - unlike the year before with the battle of the divas (Mariah Carey and Nicki Menaj - talk about awkward along with Nicki Minaj just being a little strange).  I no longer vote however.  I stopped after Adam Lambert lost.  The competition was actually worth it this past season and the person I wanted to win did.

I've never really been big into AI or any of the talent competition shows. I don't get to watch TV that much while it's on. Usually it's play catch up later in the season on Hulu or xfinity. But since I rotate on a two week schedule it's difficult to keep up with TV especially working nights.

Actually I think her review of How To is spot on, that book is good and bad for exactly the reasons she mentioned. How To is no where near as good as God Shaped (I said as much in my review on Goodread) and she gave it a 3* ( so did I) so its not like she sandblasted it, she was just critically honest.

Oh, I know Booked, there is something so car crash about X Factor it makes for compelling TV but I come away feeling like I've lost brain neurons, hence why last week I watched from under the duvet as if it might shield me from the worse of it.  :D :D :D No one knew who Louis Walsh was before X; he was the manager of a fairly successful UK boy-band called West Life, who have now gone the way of the Dodo.

  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
I'm with Booked. I watch the auditions of most all of the vocal competitions. But normally only watch AI and sometimes The Voice. I usually record them and have them on when I work at home in the background. I like the singing parts. Just not always the rest.  Also?  It's a great way to find new music. Though sometimes I find I don't like the original as much LOL!   ;)

We are having fun around my house. We had to put my 14 year old cat to sleep after he injured himself. Still can't figure out how. But we have another cat who was a rescue kitty and was best buddies with our old cat.  He's walking around meowing looking for him.  My female cat tries to help. We are going to get a kitten from the vet today and hope they bond.  ;)

I know, I'm actually surprised Scotland hasn't done this before now as both my Nana's always spouted on about how Scotland wanted independence when they were alive (they were both Scottish, though one married a Welsh guy and moved to Yorkshire and the other married an Irish guy and moved to Chelsea as you do  :D :D).
I personally love Scotland - there's no other place like it.  :)

Oh god no, she's definitely not having a Sweet 16th - they've become quite popular this way over the last 3/4 years but nothing like the one's you see on MTV.
She's just going out for a meal with her b/f before they come home as he lives with us anyway.

Hey, I'm not bad at rec'ing things - okay, that's a bit of a lie when it comes to
fics but I always warn peeps when they're craptastic, it's not my fault you keep clicking the link and reading them.  :P :P

am sorry Loopy and Demaris, but i just got to say that i like watching the audition part of American Idol.

Lol, well it's not called shit factor for no reason.
I seriously just can't watch it any more as it's so cringe-worthy.My daughter loves it though so she watches one of th many. many repeats of it.  ::) ::)
I seriously think that some of the peeps on there have no real friends as they tell them they can sing when it's obvious they can't.  :D :D
